[ ༻ ❊ ༺ ] Of all the apprentices, Featherpaw in the eyes of Lakekit was a big meanie (saying that when he's only interacted with only a select few). So, when he had seen the molly's face shrew up in disgust over a bug, Lakekit had cracked the perfect plan for later that day. It wasn't common for kits to not pull pranks, or leave things where they shouldn't, so this time would be no different. Yet the normally non-conflicting kit decided to cause... some conflict this time around. He had gone bug hunting within the walls of the camp, and once he came across the grossest and ugliest yet fattest worm that decided to scrounge its way out to the top, Lakekit was quick to pluck it up.

Next, he waited...and waited until Featherpaw left for the brief moment she did before sneaking to place the bug neatly in her nest, watching as it squirmed and wriggled about which made the tom scrunch his nose slightly in disgust, yet he could not stay for long as the other would soon return, and the coming sounds of paw steps made the kit retreat into hiding, poking his head out slightly from where he hid in hopes to get the reaction of the apprentice once she found the gross creature in her nest.

pls wait for @FEATHERPAW

Featherpaw cared dramatically little for the opinions of kits. Cold and hardy, he found he shouldn't have the time for them. When he was a warrior perhaps he could extend some patience, but for now she could not shake away the crawling feelings of jealousy within her for the moons this generation of kittens would get to spend without worry. If there had been a time Featherpaw hadn't thought about apprenticeship, about her hurtling destiny regarding becoming a warrior, she didn't remember it.

Within him was a twisting jealousy that he denied, and dressed in the facade of duty. Of honour- of showing respect to her blood.

He did not spend much time in his nest. It wasn't worth it, really... she would soon be a warrior, and could not falter at all, could not sully anything that she had built toward. Her speed was still a little lacking, but with precision and prodigal tracking, he made up for it... and his battle skills were fierce and defensive, honed so that a repeat of her spinal injury would never happen again.

Even in moments of reprieve, her nest was often not a comforting thing. It was a place he spent a lot of time lying awake, rather than sleeping... vigilant and protective. Rest was already a reluctant thing- so when something squirmed around in her periphery, Featherpaw froze, sickened. She felt her fur stick into spines, her glare becoming sunlight glinting from ice-shards. Fury overcame her, completely and utterly.

She took a step away, narrowing her eyes as if the worm would poison her. Someone had known- some slimy wretch had exploited a disgust she had been stupid enough to show. Anger blizzarded in her eyes as she cast an accusatory glance toward anyone who dared wander near. "Someone b-b-buh... b-better tell me which one of you rot-breaths did this." Like a rattlesnake, a snow-tipped tail lashed.

[ ༻ ❊ ༺ ] His plan had worked out perfectly, soon as Featherpaw had gotten comfortable, the worm deployed it's attack causing the other to react in such a way that he let a soft snort leave his nose, but she began questioning who had decided to put the gross little creature in their nest, and he eased himself out of his hiding spot before looking up at the other with a slight calm look in his face.

"Thought you needed a buddy to sleep with, and I found something that well...suits you" he stated a bit coolly. He was playing with fire for sure, especially when in only a moon he would soon join the others outside in the clearing, meaning his nest too could be targetted if Featherpaw wanted to ever seek her vengeance against the tom for his little prank.

"Why you don't like it? I worked extra hard to find it" he plainly stated, unapologetic to his actions while keeping his bi-colored eyes on the other. What would she do? Hit him? His fluffy tail swished a bit before settling down and curling it tightly around his own paws, he had to admit, her reaction was quite amusing and worth the hard work in deploying his little trick.

“How come Featherpaw gets to have a friend in her nest?” Brackenkit piped up, voice slightly sounding like a whine. She was planning on going back to the nursery but seeing Lakekit caused them to stop in their tracks. The calico instead changed course to be standing a little closer to the kit, surveying the scene in front of them. They couldn't quite understand Lakekit, she thought him to be a little too passive about things. This had changed their perspective a little bit though, the idea of him placing something in a nest to mess with another felt like a different kit entirely. Brackenkit couldn't say that she was upset at the idea though, she had no true stance. If forced to pick a side then her stance was in favour of Lakekit by default, they were both kits so there was a form of comradery there for her.

The worm was hard to spot at first. It wasn't like they knew exactly what Lakekit had meant by a buddy to sleep with. Once they did see the fat worm they mouthed a silent ‘oh’. Why was Featherpaw upset about this? It's just a worm, wouldn't he have had to deal with much worse by now? If what Brackenkit heard about apprentices are true anyways. Unless Featherpaw is a lousy apprentice? Or- “You're not scared of it are you? I thought apprentices were braver than that” there was an evident edge to their voice, looking to provoke and tease in the way that is common for a child. She didn't understand why one would keep their mouth shut in this situation, instead she voiced her thoughts on what the issue could really be, because who would ever be mad at Lakekit? She didn't understand what could happen from stoking the coals of a fire that was already starting to burn.

All opinions are IC!! Bracken is a little hater

"Can't blame her for not wantin' a creepy crawlie in his bed." Celandinepaw's drawl sounded as she entered the apprentice's den, abask in the honeyed drips of her sunshine pelt, squirming into the vitriol and naivete of the crowd. Though Celandinepaw would never admit it, she had never been a fan of insects and arachnids. Their spindle-like legs and beady eyes skeeved her out more than they cared to voice. "Have y'all seen the size of the cockroaches in the barn? I'm sure you wouldn't want that sleepin' 'longside you!" The young apprentice chuckled, though wheat-tinged eyes traveled downwards at the rather plump grub who seemed to crawl along the ground like the drant of a rasping voice. Tail swished behind her as the temptation to press her nose to it filled her, though she quickly swiped it away as she would to a speck of dust or mote of grime. "Where'd you even find something like that?" Rounded head tilted to the side in an almost owlish manner, with golden tabby pelt shimmering under the dim light of the den, like it had been dewretted and sundried with gentle touch. The kittens here are so mischievous... Now I'm kinda scared for my nest, too!

Featherpaw decided instantaneously that she hated Lakekit, and Brackenkit was not doing herself any favours either. Suits you. The little speck was obviously trying to get a rise out of him, something that many a cat had attempted before... and Featherpaw did not exactly make it difficult for them. Fury slitted her pupils in sun-drowned cryostasis- her fangs gritted together. "What a waste of your already-worthless effort, then," Featherpaw spat, uncaring that her assailant was a good few moons younger than her. He would not be babying this spiteful little worm of a kit, and if he never came near her again she would thank StarClan every night for their wonderful blessing.

Brackenkit too earned a glare. Scared, they said- practiced steeliness disguised Featherpaw's hurt, and he snorted indignantly. "I p-p-puh... p-pity your future mentor if you can't tell the difference between fear and d-disgust," Featherpaw tutted, pupils flicking over to the worm, wariness in the black expanse. Bravery had nothing to do with bugs and her opinions on them. Did the kits not see the scar carved along her spine? Did they not see all the bravery she had worked for? They would have screamed louder than him upon the infliction of a wound like that, he knew it.

He was rather unused to being defended- so Celandinepaw's voice came as a small surprise, and Featherpaw watched her for a few moments, falling quiet. Her tone was a bit more amicable, chuckled encouragement that Featherpaw would never be bothered to dress himself with. A golden paw reached to flick away the worm somewhere unseen, though, and the tabby molly's face instantly soured again. "Ugh- no, k-kill it, hare-brain!" Featherpaw hissed, despondent. A yellow glare turned shrewd as she got to her paws to look for wherever the worm had landed, ready to end its miserable existence.
