private WAKE THE WOLF [dovekit]

⊱⊰ Roeflame may not be his true mother, only a fraction of the mother Hopekit imagines Leopardtongue would have been for him and Coalkit. Of course, the little tom appreciates the silvery-cinnamon queen’s care for himself and his brother, but no matter how well Roeflame cares for them, she can’t fully replace their real mother. But she is their parent, just as her kits are Hopekit’s siblings. Littlekit, Dovekit, and Beetlekit are all fun in their own ways, especially when it comes to playing games. Unlike some of the other kits, they aren’t afraid to play fight with him. And they won’t cry if they don’t win.

With this in mind, it takes no hesitation for Hopekit to approach one of his tabby-pointed sibling. He stands before the other kit with a swish of his tail, pale paws padding against the ground in a show of uncharacteristic excitement. "Dovekit, let’s play a game. I’ll be… a ThunderClan warrior. And you’ll… also be a ThunderClan warrior. And we’re fighting." It’s a silly idea for a game, but it’s a fun situation to think about. But why would they be fighting? "We’re fighting over… stealing from SkyClan." Because stealing from SkyClan was a bad thing… and that means ThunderClan is a bad clan, doesn’t it? Or that some ThunderClanners are bad, at least. Maybe he should ask Gentlestorm or Roeflame which clanmates are the bad ones.

"You can go first," he says, because that’s the nice thing to do. But he does his best to take a fighting stance, even though he doesn’t really know the first thing about fighting.

Dovekit liked the kinship they had with Hopekit and Coalkit, they knew that they weren't real siblings - not in the way that Littlekit and Beetlkit were - and that they had different parents from Roeflame and Burnstorm but it didn't matter. As long as Hope and Coal would allow it Dovekit would call them siblings, they'd grown up together, had nursed together, and had all seen kits come and go in the nursery together, and so they were siblings and Dovekit loved them both. They had grown used to the games Hopekit played over the small amount of time they'd been alive so it came as no surprise when they'd been asked to play as ThunderClanners fighting.

What had been a surprise though was the topic they were fighting about. Face twisted for a moment in thought before a quick nod of their head indicated that they'd play this game and mirrored the poor excuse for a fighting stance Hopekit had for a moment. Of course, Dovekit thought it was amazing because they were both going to be amazing warriors who knew already how to fight. "I think it's bad to steal Hopeclaw! It's against the code!" They'd announce with pride, taking the stance of those who hadn't stolen from the neighboring clan. The code, the code was something they'd heard about a lot and had heard be flung around about part of why it would be bad for them to steal, so of course they'd take this stance and use those words. After a moment to give the newly dubbed Hopeclaw time to respond, Dovekit would jump forward and aim to knock over the other, in a pretend fight kind of way of course.

⊱⊰ The pointed kit takes the same stance as him, ready to fight, and Hopekit smiles fiercely. Their battle is going to be amazing, and he feels even more excited when the other kit calls him Hopeclaw. Yeah… yeah, that’s right. Hopeclaw is a big, strong ThunderClan warrior, and he isn’t afraid to steal from other clans. He doesn’t care about the code at all—the character of Hopeclaw, of course, not Hopekit. Because it’s just a game of pretend-battle, not real battle. Even if play-fights with Beetlekit and Dovekit frequently end up feeling kind of like rough, real fights.

His sibling reminds him of the code that he’s broken, and Hopekit only shakes his head, all mysterious and angry. He thinks. "Maybe the code is wrong, Dove… heart! Sometimes, stealing is important!" He doesn’t quite understand the depth of what he’s talking about, but it seems like it makes sense, at least. He’s so caught up for a moment in figuring out what Hopeclaw would think about the code, that he doesn’t realize Dovekit is leaping at him until it’s too late. He’s knocked to the ground harshly, but he moves quick to try and knock the other kit away. "Hey!" His brows furrow with real frustration, and he kicks out with his hind paws at the other kit’s belly. His claws are still sheathed, but his paws attempt to drive themselves into the soft underside of Dovekit’s small body anyway.
