border walk in the park || mentor & apprentice

Next on their list was the border with Riverclan...her least favorite out of them all. "This is the river, it marks our border with Riverclan." her voice is different than it had been at their last stop. "Never trust a Riverclanner..." the words she had spoken to Merlinpaw before they had gotten into earshot hopefully stuck into her new apprentice's mind. She glanced over at the young molly beside her and pressed her side against her's reassuringly. It had been quite some time since she had an apprentice before Scorchedpaw and Merlinpaw. However, Merlinpaw reminded her of her former apprentice...Acornfur. "Riverclan's leader is Lichenstar, with Hazecloud as her deputy. You already know their medicine cat, Moonbeam." Much like their time at the Skyclan border, she could smell a Riverclan patrol incoming. "There are cats coming, can you smell them?"

a longhaired red tabby with low white and green eyes. flamewhisker's fur is a vibrant hue of red, riddled with thick classic tabby markings. her fur is medium in length, and she has a large, feathery tail. her chest, belly, tail tip, and her paws are dipped white. flamewhisker's eyes are a dark, deep shade of green. her shoulder has a large scar on it from a fight with a dog. she also has a shredded ear from a disagreement with a loner during her time alone before joining thunderclan. on particularly cold days, or sometimes before a major weather change, she will walk with a slight limp from her shoulder injury.

"You'll remember this border," she murmurs to her daughter, swishing her tail to knock aside the overgrowth of reeds. "We're here to refresh our scent today and nothing more. Stay alert." Iciclefang can see the broad, flame-colored shape of ThunderClan's deputy slipping through Sunningrocks; an unfamiliar cat accompanies her, looking dew-whiskered and fresh-faced. The tortoiseshell warrior twitches an ear; her pale gaze flicks to the undergrowth behind them, hoping Stormywing doesn't make a second appearance.

Do you think it felt good, to push you away? Familiar burn sears her insides, though she does not linger on the thought. She has kits to think of, kits who have known only RiverClan their entire lives, kits who will only know RiverClan until their dying breaths.

"Flamewhisker." Iciclefang dips her head to the ThunderClan deputy. "I see you have a new apprentice. Who's this?" She beckons Pinepaw forward, her expression neutral.

-ˋˏ ༻ ❆༺ ˎˊ- On the heels of her mentor, Pinepaw is eager to follow, the adrenaline of her rank-change still having yet to wear fully off. Her mothers words are quiet but curt, and Pinepaw only nods, amber hues glued to the lead warrior. The last time she had been here had been strange, new faces and lots of stares, particularly from that one sorry-lookin ThunderClanner, hopefully this time would be more pleasant, quick like her mother intended. As she slips onto the shore border alongside her mother, the tortoiseshell gives herself a moment to inhale the musky scent once more, solidify it in her memory.
Pinepaw recognizes the fiery-hued molly across the river from her tour. ThunderClans deputy. Fire…? Blaze…?
Flamewhisker. Her mother calls, and Pinepaw’s gaze moves to the younger cat at the deputy’s side. “I’m gonna go… over there.” Quietly, Pinepaw gives Iciclefang’s shoulder a brush, though her tentative gaze signals that it is more of a question than a statement. When given approval, Pinepaw would trail further along the border, practicing leaving her scent like her mother had told her to do on these types of patrols.

Never trust a Riverclanner. Flamewhisker's words echoed within the chambers of Merlinpaw's mind, just as the churning of the river drowned it out just as easily as it had entered, as though it flowed out of the embouchures of her kit-fluff head. Her mentor pressed her flank against the littler apprentice's, though it did little to relieve the knots that besieged her every breath. Triangular ears caught upon the names of the leader, the deputy, the medicine cat... There are so many to remember... Do I have to know them all? Troubled eyes glowed with the emotions that she wore upon her wrists, though the question that Flamewhisker had asked her snapped her out of her melancholy. "Mmm... I think so. They smell sort of b-" The apprentice quickly pursed her lips shut as soon as flashes of fur emerged from the reeds, and immediately did her head bow as though it had been laded with lead, though it was more out of pure nervousness than any sort of reverence for the borders. Fish-scents clung strongly to their pelts, as if they wore them as a cape rather than simply lived with them. It took everything in Merlinpaw's favor to not scrunch up her muzzle at the pungency of the aroma. The first two greeted Flamewhisker by name, though the younger calico had gone as quickly as she came - was the Thunderclan cats' mere presence a spate sourced from uneasiness and founded on tension? "I-I'm, uh, Merlinkit... I mean, uh, Merlin - Merlinpaw! S-Sorry... 'S my first day..." The blue tortoiseshell blurted out, and she could hardly even match the fern-hued gaze of her mentor, let alone the two strangers across the border.
