"Heyyy, Newtkit." Algaekit's purr rang through the nursery, like a jingle that overstayed its company in one's ears for a little too long, pealing through the brilliance of morning's smile. Of course, the mottled calico kitten had woken up before everyone else, even his own littermates. Now, peach-fuzz face and toothed grin, carved with hands of mischief and roguery, lie a little too close to his new playmate - at least, to the one that she just decided would be his new playmate. "Let's see if we can catch a fish today! The wind told me today was a good day to fish. It blew towards the river, like it was calling me there! C'mon, or else all the fish will go away because they'll catch onto us!" One rounded paw jabbed at Newtkit's flank, like Algaekit bobbed for something in the water rather than attempted to get a friend's attention, newfound strength a boon that he had not grown used to yet. Growing too soon to ever venture out of his birthplace, he had been imbued with the stardust of his wanderlust, like curiosity had wrested itself into his bones and minerals. She had begun to count down the days when she would receive her apprentice's name - the rest of the details were not so important, with her mentor's face a smudged-out blur and the chants of her clanmates a fly's droning symphony. Golden eyes rested upon the purling stream beyond her reach, as the silver shimmers sang a siren's serenade, more of a songbird's melody than a pallid knell. To the kit so burdened with naivete, there was little expectation of danger from the unknown. There was not that silent agreement between the beast and the beyond, only a curiosity borne of the purest of ignorance. He didn't care about falling into the water or being swept away. All she thought about was how cool it would be if he caught his first piece of prey before he had ever become an apprentice, and that fate had led her to such a momentous occasion.
