It was a normal day for him; at least, as far as his normal went. Coalfoot had decided to strike out on his own that day, hoping to catch something more to bolster the fresh-kill pile, despite the fact that he had already gone on a hunting patrol earlier that day. He wanted the thrill of the chase, the pride of a catch. It made him feel better about himself to provide for the clan when he wasn't being a burden.

There, he spotted one. A rabbit. The tom could feel a quiver go through him, eyes widening, body lowering, whiskers twitching. The world was silent now, nothing but him and his catch, gap closing one silent pawstep at a time.

Something changed. Both sensed it. The rabbit bolted. Coalfoot didn't give chase.

Straightening up, the warrior's head swiveled, sensing something was off but not quite able to locate it. He felt it again. Below.

Beneath him, the earth seemed to sag. With a jolt of alarm, he scrambled back as far as he could, watching the very ground bow beneath its own weight before it broke, collapsing inward and falling into an unknown depth. It clawed at itself, dragging more and more with it, the hole widening with each passing second and forcing the frightened warrior further and further back.

With horrified awe he watched, the collapse slowing until it halted entirely, save for small clumps of dirt rolling down a newfound slope. Coalfoot took a tentative step closer, but a chunk of earth dislodging itself to slide down to the bottom halted him in his tracks, hair rising on his pelt. Silence fell.

Once again he slowly crept closer to inspect the newfound hole, wide eyes gazing over the damage. It was large, he mused, more lengthy than circular. Was it a tunnel collapse? For a moment his heart leapt into his throat, wondering if anyone had been below, but shook his head of the thought. Surely he would have heard something?

He should leave, he decided. It wasn't safe here. What if more collapsed? He needed to tell the Clan - tell Sootstar. With another glance toward the newfound scar in the land, Coalfoot turned tail and began to run back to camp.

reference for appearance + rough sizing

notes:
sinkhole [name - sunken hollow?]
roughly ~12ft in length, give or take
mostly steep, although one section is slanted enough to have potential for a proper, safe path
has tunnel access on both ends, although currently blocked off by debris
was caused by an old underground river, which eventually became little more than a trickling stream
ground is currently lumpy with chunks of earth and grass, would require cleanup
could be used for training or a new tunnel access
could have some new nifty stuff unearthed? materials or otherwise

open to any changes, just a rough concept
