It hadn't gotten any better like Mizzlekit had hoped for. Granted it had only been a few hours since they first arrived to DuskClan but Mizzlekit was certain that he had searched every inch of the camp that he was able to reach. All in search of some glimmer of potential, he found instead that he's hard pressed to actually say that anything of the sort is here. However he is a kitten and how is he to actually know what potential is? Maybe he could go ask Rumblerain about it, or someone else? The others didn't seem up for talking that much but Mizzlekit is certain that he will wear them all down in time!

Instead he finds solace next to his sister, having dragged her along with him on his search for the grandness that DuskClan may hold. She had been much more vocal between the pair about her dislike for their situation. He doesn't blame her though, while he still calls her Ari he is understanding that everyone else will know her as Berrykit. How long would it be before either of them forgot why he calls her Ari to begin with? That is a concern that doesn't reach him yet, the daydreamer instead curling up beside his sister as exhaustion takes hold once more. Half tired green eyes scanning their surroundings once more before giving up on that goal for now.

"I hate your new name" he grumbles in discontent, ears pinning for a moment as he realises that maybe she might like it. "If you like it I can change my mind" he didn't want her to think that he hated her by proxy. With a sigh he moves to nudge his head against her shoulder, green eyes seeking bicoloured ones. Tail curled in uncurled in anxiety as he tried to think of something their momma might say to cheer them up but he is once again clutching at nothing to resolve this. "How come my name didn't change?" he wonders out loud, his theory for codenames fell short with that realisation. So did the grace he was trying to give Rumblerain, it quickly became apparent that they had to ask them about this sometime. "Can I still call you Ari?" he decides on asking, head perking up as he awaits an answer.

༻✦༺ This place, Arethusakit has decided, is dreadful. The strangers who surround them are rugged and… well… strange. They don't even call her by her real name, but instead they call her Berrykit. And berries aren't bad, but it still just isn't her name! She can't help but wonder why it was changed—maybe there was something about Arethusa that made Raindrop unhappy, so they introduced her to all their friends using the new name.

She wonders, then, if her name is supposed to sound like their pinstriped parent's. If she's supposed to be a replacement, just until Edenberry gets here—and they will get here, because they had promised to see both of them again soon, and Arethusakit knows that her Momma would never break a promise like that, so trusting as she is with all her being. And when Edenberry arrives in this ugly place, they will smile that cool smile of theirs, (and looking back now, did they always seem a little bit tired when they smiled?) and then she will be Arethusakit again, not Berrykit.

Beside her, her littermate speaks up. His head tips against her shoulder, rousing her from her thoughts; Arethusakit turns to lock eyes with him, just for a moment. He hates her new name. So does she. Mismatched eyes dart away, slipping down, down, down until she's staring at her own paws. Once, they were pure white, marred by only the faint green stains of grass after a busy day of playing with her brother. Now, they are capped in pale blue fur, a stain that doesn't wash away. When it had happened, she can't remember. But it had happened, and she is changed forever. The new name that everyone calls her by reflects that, doesn't it? She's different, after leaving home for the first time.

Why didn't Mizzlekit's name change, though? Why didn't anything about him change? He's still the same old Mizzlekit, under the dirt and the dust and the soft sighs that he lets out. "Mmmm… maybe Mizzle isn't… bad." Mizzle is like drizzle, kind of like a raindrop. And it suits her monochrome littermate, she thinks, smiling faintly at the thought.

Can I still call you Ari?

"Yes. Please." Her voice strains, creaking beneath the weight of her desperation. He wants to call her by her name, still—her real name. The name she holds onto because it's soft, because it's comfortable, because it's familiar. Because it's hers. Raindrop… Rumblerain can't make her forget about it, and they can't make Mizzlekit forget either. "You can always call me Ari." As long as he still calls her that, then it's still her name.

Reactions: Mizzlepaw

"Arethusa isn't bad either!" He cries out with a pout, it came across more than a whine but truly it was nothing louder than normal. Hopefully his sister has built a tolerance for it and wouldn't flinch away, if she did his ears would pin against his skull immediately. Truthfully he didn't want his name to change but at the same time he did! A conflict of interest gnawing away at his core, why couldn't he change too anyways? Maybe if he did then his sister wouldn't be so sad, he didn't like seeing her bummed like this. Her changing fur had been a gradual thing to him, as he saw her everyday he saw the transition slowly occur. He thought it was cool, something unique to his sister that no one else could have. That no one could take even if they're her parent, he once thought that about names too but maybe this had to be something more tangible.

"Okay! You're always going to be Ari to me" no matter what, even if the seasons change, even if the cats around them change once more. Even if the pair themselves change as they grow that will at least be consistent. It's his silent promise to her, something deadly serious and of course it's something that he doesn't vocalize because then would it even sound like Mizzlekit speaking? In this fleeting moment of privacy he shuffles to his mismatched sister, emerald eyes meeting dual coloured ones then glancing around the camp as if on the lookout for something.

Or rather, someone. "What do you think of Raindrop?"
He asks in a quiet whisper, are they allowed to call them that still? He didn't know but until he was scolded for it he would continue while at the very least afforded the briefest privacy. "Do you think... Momma knew?" [/color] Knew about what? He couldn't say, about DuskClan? About their other parents dual names? Even if they knew about their intentions to change Ari's name. He truly hopes not, they didn't seem like they knew but he wasn't too invested in paying attention to whatever was going on between the adults of the family when they shared that time in the yard.

Ari is smart though, Ari was able to look in directions that he couldn't even dream of. Surely she would know. She's always been clever in the games they play together so why wouldn't she continue to be so here?
