private we were going right // lichenstar

It's been many sunrises since her warrior ceremony. The gathering is mere paces away, by now, and yet Splashdance feels her shoulders grow heavy. She's since stayed up many nights wondering what ifs, many concerning her place in ShadowClan. If she never left, would she have found happiness there? She almost doubts it, but she would never know the true answer. Furthermore, without Lichenstar's blessing and trust... would she have made it this far? The she-cat thinks too often now about how if RiverClan hadn't taken her in, how she would've turned herself loose - a loner or a rogue, depending on how hard life got...

But her leader believed in her. Believed in the blood that ran through her veins despite the sin that placed it there. Saw as she blossomed beneath the greenleaf sun, growing quick and fierce in the water, an admirable hunter to boot. Trusted her. She lives freely amongst cats she was not born inbeside, and though she still has days where she misses her family... she does not miss ShadowClan at all. RiverClan is her home. Perhaps it was always meant to be.

Her tail only hovers just above the ground as she approaches her leader. She does not look ashamed, or as if she has something to hide - yet the sheepish demeanor is still unlike her. She holds fast to her emotion as she addresses the blue point, a small smile within her round features. "Lichenstar, can I speak with you?"

  • Doubt is a spiteful friend... one that lingers at her side and whispers uncertainties in her ears when they are least wanted. It is only made worse by the seething of a council that doesn't fit her... half that stew in silence and glower from afar; Iciclefang had already proven herself to be willing to undermine her orders when she saw fit. Her own troubles with Hazecloud grew stressed upon by additional responsibility (or at least, she felt they did and feared the abandonment of her mate). Foxtail lacked the confidence she needed him to find... It felt like holding sand between her paws and demanding it not to sift through her toes.

She believed in her reasoning... thought herself justified... someone who could make the dead proud. Someone that her children could look up to and wouldn't be steered down paths of unnecessary hate. Could appreciate a world that Lichenstar could never show them. One before the clans. One that demanded the individual, one that had encouraged collaboration (the whole reason the colonies even formed... mutual benefit.)

The sound of an uncertainty makes itself known in the enunciation of the letters of her name. A bid for conversation... Salt-water stare finds the wide-eyed warrior. Her body still ached where pieces remained unfused, trying to repair the damage brought about by reckless paws and hungry teeth. "Of course..." Would this be the moment she found out if her efforts were fruitless? Would she now confess to a sinking feeling of un-belonging? "Is there... something wrong?" Best to rip the bandage off now. So she might know what to expect from this 'talk.'

"No," Splashdance is quick to follow up her slow-speaking leader, "No, it's not that at all. It's..." the she-cat sways with her weight side to side, and though she has dredged up the courage to address her leader formally, it's only then that she realizes how little she has prepared. The black furred molly stares at Lichenstar for a moment too long with her jaw slack, all before she presses a grin back into her features. "It's the opposite, Lichenstar. I wanted... to thank you."

Gratitude cannot be heard in simple words, she knows. Splashdance can (and will) dedicate all that she has in her life to RiverClan, to Lichenstar henceforth - and it would not be enough. She cannot claim to know the struggles a leader must have on their shoulders, much less a molly like the blue point, dealing with betrayal and outside forces nearly every moon. She cannot claim to have made any of Lichenstar's life easier either, given her request as unprecedented as it gets. But the other hadn't let the unknown stop either of them - and neither will their new warrior.

"I don't think I can say it enough, but really. I... appreciate all you've done for me." A rambler at heart, the she-cat knows if she allows herself to, she may never stop talking - and Lichenstar may die thrice over of old age before she's finished. And so she tries to be succinct, "Without you... I never would've known RiverClan as my home. I... don't know where I would be today. Maybe I wouldn't even be in the Clans any longer -" a pause, a hiccup in her words, and she simply dips her head, "Thank you, Lichenstar. Really."

  • Rejection is swift, so quick in fact she feels as if she's spoken too slow to ask. Splashdance is hungry to answer but then all at once... she stops.... The point's brows furrow, confused by her sudden silence as sapphire meets aquamarine. Then what? She doesn't rush her, despite her own impatience. And soon a grin spreads across dark features with the answer she wanted. The answer she didn't know she'd been needing.

    A thank you.

Her shoulders lax suddenly, a small sigh followed by a relieved fluttering of eyelashes. "Thank StarClan," is her answer, shaking her head as if to fend off the nagging anxieties that had warned her the opposite may be true.

"Splashdance," her gaze steadies on over-eager features, a body that practically vibrates with gratitude (she is withholding a lot more words than she shares... out of respect? Fear? Lichenstar doesn't know. "It is thanks enough.... to just... be a good, faithful.... warrior of RiverClan." She has made friends... integrated despite the judgement of her peers. "You've earned your... place here.... It's been in you... the whole time. If you wanted... it to be. Please..." Her ear twitches, feeling she is becoming too sappy, "Just... enjoy living... and that'll be... good enough... for me."
