↞ RACE THE WINDS
tw: mentions of blood

Galeforce hadn't gone out that day with the intentions of engaging in a fight with another predator, but that's how his day went. He'd simply been wandering around just outside the camp without much on his mind when he spied Sunsetbreeze. He let his gaze linger on him for a little while, his thoughts drifting into strange territories and feelings that he was not familiar with. It was all rather odd, almost distressing.

However, some movement in the grass caught his attention and he shifted his focus towards it. Brown silky fur glinted between the long strands of green, at first leaving the tabby tom with feelings of bafflement. Then the panic hit like a thunderpath monster as he realised what he was seeing. It matched the creatures from the stories told to him by elders during his kithood. A weasel. Such a threat could hurt a cat, but even worse if the weasel got inside the camp and found the kits in the nursery.

It was an instant reaction with no further thought needed beyond seeking to protect Sunsetbreeze and the rest of the clan. Galeforce charged forward with his fur on end and he launched himself straight atop the weasel, catching it whilst it had been focused on the other tom. When the warrior's teeth sank into the beast's back the air was split by the sound of it shrieking in pain. It snapped it's head back around and managed to snag it's teeth into Galeforce's left foreleg. The two tangled in a vicious struggle that saw fur flying in all directions with the stench of blood in the air. It eventually fizzled to an end when Galeforce managed to pin the weasel down with a strong bite to it's throat which allowed him to suffocate his enemy. He eventually released his hold when he was sure that the thing was dead. He sat back on his haunches huffing and panting hard from exhaustion, but all he could think about was whether his friend was okay. "Are you alright?"

Sunsetbreeze had been too focused on stalking a vole in the snow to even notice the threat behind them. He had been out hunting all day just searching for anything to bring back to camp to feed hungry mouths. This vole had been the first prey he had even found out here today so he couldn't risk losing it now. Maybe that was what really left his back open for an attack.

It was in the last second that Sunsetbreeze could smell the danger behind him, but as he turned his head around could spot the weasel that was coming in his way with full force. It would be far too late for him to even dodge out of the way leaving him open for the attack. However, in the last second another being would storm themselves through the grass to lunge themselves at the weasel. Brown fur would flash in front of his eyes and in shook Sunsetbreeze would watch as Galeforce battled the weasel before he got the upperhand and finished the predator off.

Had he just...saved his life?.

Oh, what was this feeling that blossomed up inside of him?. Sunsetbreeze was not someone who needed to be saved, for anyone to step in to thier defence!. He should scold Galeforce for doing a such irrational and unecessery thing. For daring to think he had even needed their help!. Sunsetbreeze didn't need anyone to fight his battles. He was fine looking out for himself, refusing to relay or depend on anybody. So he should be furious. Outrage for getting humiliated like this. So why did he not feel upset over this?. What sort of ridiculous feeling was it that he experienced right now... Why was he instead concerned for Galeforce well-being?. The urge to scold him was still there but for complete different reasons.

Are you alright?, he just dared to ask them. Sunsetbreeze almost dropt thier jaw but he clenched them, his fur bristled slightly. " Of course i'm fine!, you made sure of that." he muttered at the end, looking displeased as he quickly made his way over to Galeforce and stopped right in their face to stare at them. " You big dummy!, why did you do that for?!. You could have get hurt." he paused and took a circle around the other tom to make sure he in fact was not hurt!. That was then he saw the bleeding leg, the one the weasel had bit into. Sunsetbreeze heart sank to the bottom of the sea. " You...are hurt..." His voice had instantly grown softer, his gaze looking devastated and filled with guilt. The anger had vanished from his system and he could no longer face them and so he faced his paws instead with a sad look. " I'm...sorry, you got hurt because of me." It was extremely rare of him to apologize but this time it was justified. It only he had paid more attention this would never have happened... This was all his fault. This was why he not wanted others to step in to his defence....because he did not wanted anyone to get hurt because of him.

Soft snow crunches beneath the warrior's paws as she glances about. Her jaws are parted as cool air washes over her senses, stinging her throat. She and her apprentice have been out all day without so much as a whiff of prey! The calico pouts at the thought before glancing over her shoulder at @Dustpaw | Duststorm . "We can't go back empty-pawed," She murmurs dejectedly, her tail dragging for a moment uncharacteristically. She's a great hunter, so it hurts when she's not able to bring down at least a tiny mouse for her clan!

Brightshine perks right back up as the scent of blood stops her in her tracks. Before she realizes her, her pelt is standing on end and her ears are pressing forward with concern. It smells like more than a swift kill of a clanmate's prey. "Come on!" She trills quickly to Dustpaw before breaking off at a sprint, covering ground as quickly as she can. It isn't long before she comes across two of her clanmates with- is that a weasel? "Oh gosh, are you two okay?" She squeaks in shock, wide eyes roving over the pair. Gaze locking onto Galeforce's foreleg, she immediately lashes her tail in concern. "You should see Dandelionwish about that! You wouldn't want it getting infected!" Her trill is urgent and worried. The calico isn't the brightest berry in the bunch, but she does know how nasty an infection can be!

I'VE BEEN RUNNIN THROUGH THIS STRANGE LIFE,
CHASIN' ALL THEM GREEN LIGHTS
THROWING OUT THE SHADE FOR A LITTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE

Winter certainly added an extra bite to the challenge of becoming a warrior, that was for sure. At first Dustpaw had been thrilled with the snow and everything one could use it for- snowslides, snowballs, snowcats, snowdens- there was a million possabilities! But it also had this downside of freezing your whiskers off your face and scaring all the prey away. He and Brightshine had been at it for hours trying to catch hide or hair of anything, and even Dustpaw was beginning to share in his mentors frustrations. How was he supposed to train to become a better hunter when there was nothing to hunt? And it was what he struggled with the most. What if he didn't get to train at all during the winter and then was stuck as an apprentice for extra long because he had to catch up on all the hunting he missed out on? "Maybe there'll be something by the Thunderclan border?" he suggested, trying to remain optimistic. "I bet half our prey is hiding under those trees of theirs anyways. Maybe we'll get lucky and something will come our way?"

Before Brightshine ever had a chance to respond though, a heavy, coppery scent came wafting through the air. Confusion was Dustpaws first response, never having encountered such a thing before, but he quickly caught on from his mentors body language that something was wrong. He raced along at her heels as she called for him and tore off in the direction the blood was coming from, a strange mixture of fear and excitement sending a burst of adreniline through his young body. This was the first time he'd ever experienced anything like this before, and he was eager for a taste of a true warriors life.

When they finally reached the place, it was just in time to see Galeforce chasing off a long, ugly looking thing that Dustpaw had never seen before. A weasel, Brightshine called it, and grey eyes watched it disapear into the grass in a mixture of awe and wariness before his gaze shifted back to his clanmates. "You sure sent that thing runnin', Galeforce!" he called with a grin, tail held high in what seemed to be pride for his fellow Windclanner. "Should we make sure its gone?" he asked, attention turning to his mentor. Surely they wouldn't want any other cats getting jumped by that thing?

↞ RACE THE WINDS
Galeforce seemed to be oblivious to any of Sunsetbreeze's displeasure, instead merely grinning like a fool as he basked in his little victory over another predatory animal. He was young but strong, and with every passing moon he was getting bigger. Still, his focus was drawn back to the present as he was reminded of his wound. He gave it a look before shrugging his shoulders. "It's only a lil' bite, seems hardly worth Dandelionwish's time. It doesn't hurt that much." He assured as he decided to ignore the potential risks it posed.

Confusion however soon creased his features when Dustpaw mentioned that the weasel had ran. "Huh? No, I killed... it... OH! That lil' weasel!" The sly creature had pulled a fast one, feigning death in order to fool the young warrior. Galeforce wrinkled his nose in frustration before ultimately relaxing again with a chuckle. "Let it go. It won't soon return after that."

Sunsetbreeze had been hoping for an apology, for Galeforce to say he was sorry for daring to get hurt in his name!. But no. no, no, no. All that fool did was grin at them giving them that big stupied happy not at all handsome grin like they where being praised and not scolded!. Oh!, the nerve this one had!. Sunsetbreeze couldn't tell if he was angry because his words had completely flashed past this air-heads mind or if it was because that grin made him blush!. Oh, how frustrating it was!. He wanted to wipe that stupid grin off from his face!. Unforgivable, absolutely unforgivable!.

Brightshine arrived together with Dustpaw just in time before the young warrior would explode on thier clanmate. Just great a audience who had seen how...Galeforce had saved his life. Sunsetbreeze cleared his throat wishing he could groom his fur to get ride of his embarrassment. " Yes, we are both fine." he answerd, but his ear twitched in annoyence when Dustpaw just had to feed Galeforce ego even more by praising him for taking care of that weasel!.

What really send him over the edge was Galeforce treating his injure like it was nothing. Oh no. Oh starclan no!. Sunsetbreeze was not having that. He had half a mind to wipe out his paw at them to smack them on top of thier head with them for daring to think so little about thier injure. Instead he would cast a glare at them. " Excuse me?!. You are going to the medicine cat den and that's final." His tail was flinking back and forth behind him in irritation. If he had to drag Galeforce by the ear to get him to the medicine cat den then so be it. If Galeforce knew anything about Sunsetbreeze at this point it was that it was better to do what they were being told when it come to him unless of course, they wanted hell to break lose, and be ignored for a week!.

↞ RACE THE WINDS
Galeforce looked shocked when Sunsetbreeze pressed the issue more firmly, not really giving him an out now. In truth he didn't want to waste Dandelionwish's time with something as minor as a little bite, but he didn't want to risk having his ears boxed by his friend. He sank his head back into his neck fur as he caved entirely. "Okay, I'll go." He squeaked as he began to walk towards the camp's entrance so he could slip inside in search of the medicine cat. "Dandelionwish, have you got a moment? I got bitten by a weasel!" Even saying it aloud made it sound minor and stupid! He really didn't need it seen to, it was a complete waste of time.

// @Dandelionwish

Naps were such a rarity for him that you had to excuse how sour his expression was when he lifted his head from one being disturbed, both eyes squinting in the darkness of his den as he tried to rouse himself mentally to process what he'd heard following the call of his name.
"...W-Weaselclaw did what?" That torn-eared fool was picking fights again? With his own clanmates? Were they about to have another lead warrior exiled for being fighty with their own cats because if so he was going to have some kind of fit.
Did they make herbs to sooth the sort of stress he went through? Should he start stuffing chamomile in his mouth every morning?
Rising to stand he stumbled once before getting out of his nest and moving forward to thrust his face into Galeforce's with both eyes narrowed in scrutiny before he glanced down and spotted the tell-tale signs of a bite mark on the warrior's foreleg, without asking permission he reached down with a paw to pull it upward in a gentle scooping motion so he could sniff it hesitantly. "...Oh...OH! An actual weasel..." The scent was clear as day, one of those ground varmints and not their ornery brown tabby warrior. Dandelionwish gave a light chuckle, "Thank the stars, I was about to go skin him alive...."
Would he have actually? At this point most likely, Dandelionwish was done with his clanmates tomfoolery and if he had to wallop one or two of them to make a point he would. "C'mon, take a seat-them damn things ain't got clean teeth."
