"You say you miss me so much... yet no one knows of my existence?" Harsh and gravelly, Magnolia mutters these words into her mother's ear. An unsettled feeling still stirs in Magnolia, even as she attempts to find a sense of normalcy within the clan. She wants to be in the clan, had seen her arrival here written in the veins of an oak leaf yet just being around so many at once frightens her. Being around her mother frightens her too. She can't make sense of her feelings anymore (has she ever?) and each time their eyes unavoidably meet she is stricken with misplaced anger and guilt, and most strangely the need to be around her.

Magnolia's glare falters when she sees Florabreeze's reaction to her bitter tone. "It's like... like they don't even know you. You're a liar, and I oughta tell them the truth...?" Her shredded ears twitch back as she shoves her muzzle closer to the black tabby's face, a growl rising in her throat. She doesn't even know what she's speaking of, but it's spat at her mother messily anyhow. Does she mean to tell the clan that Florabreeze "abandoned" her or would she craft some lie up in an effort to diminish her mother's image? The blue molly's face scrunches as she is forced to inhale the other's scent due to her closeness, such a sickly nostalgic smell. It's like second nature, an unused instinct, to dip her white head and press her forehead into Florabreeze's shoulder.

It's a light and tentative gesture while the rest of her body is wound tight and prepared to pull away. Her broad shoulders appear to shake as she breaths heavily, wracked by another tumult of conflicting emotions. Don't ruin it. As she begins to sob quietly her broad shoulders heave as she struggles to catch her breath, her head sinking deeper into dark fur. She now decides she would rather die from asphyxiation than let Florabreeze see her cry.

Their paths were bound to cross again, Magnolia was now part of the clan. Bound to the medicine den to have her wounds assessed and treated but they were together again all the same. She thought about a day like this when she had first joined SkyClan herself and yet it's bittersweet. Florabreeze made no attempt to reach out to her estranged daughter, telling herself it may be better for her that way. Magnolia can then build paths, a future with friendships to look forward to. She can seek solace in cats like Blazingheart rather than the ghosts that may cling to her whenever in the presence of the black tabby.

It's equal in that regard, acceptance in letting her daughter go. Hoping one day the distance between them will be too great and they can be strangers, maybe they'd get along then. They could share a laugh if she's lucky. Magnolia seeks her out, two magnets perpetually drawn and pushed back. Tufted ears pin at her words, her gaping maw shows shock while the gleam in her green eyes show shame.

She feels pinned, at the maw of a hungry predator. How curious it is that her only daughter manages to stir that feeling. It's true, only Silversmoke and Kitestorm had heard about her. Honeysplash knew her by title but never by name. "I…" A sentence forms and dies, saying she didn't feel the need to open up healing wounds felt careless. "They don't need to know my grief, I try to leave it at Twolegplace." there is a divide in her mind between Flora and Florabreeze. There are moments where they meld together but she is firm in her attempts to keep the lives separate.

In a way SkyClan was an escape in it's own way. Florabreeze never lost a daughter, it's easier to blend into a cat that carried no regrets like that. Teeth clack in her face again, she steels herself to try and hold back her flinch but it's clear it's there. She digs paws into the earth below, bitter with the cold. Trying to convince her instincts that her daughter is not a threat. "You can tell them whatever you'd like, I don't want to take that from you" if feeling abandoned is easier for her blue pelted daughter than she would accept that narrative. Shouldering a fictional role as long as it meant she could sleep soundly in her new home, it's the least she could do.

Florabreeze has already accepted it in truth, was the day that she stopped her daily searches the day of abandonment? A better mother would have never given up after all. A better mother would have never lost her daughter to begin with. Her large body remains tense as the molly stays so close, too close. Then she presses her head against her shoulder and Florabreeze doesn't know what to do.

Magnolia begins to cry and any half formed desire to be a stranger to her fades. Fluffy tail drapes itself against her daughters flank in an attempt to comfort. Something she's so used to doing and yet it feels foreign now. "I'm sorry, I should have been there and I can't take away the pain I've caused" Her words babble and she nearly chokes on them. After hesitance she moves to try and brush her head against her daughters, allowing space for if she wished to move away.

"I love you, I'm glad you're here and I'm glad you're safe" it's spoken in a whisper, maybe going unheard by loud emotions and broken sobbing. Despite the tears that spill from her own eyes she tries to hold her own sobs within, not wanting to take this from her daughter too. It is clear through her hitched breathing that this is a losing battle but she is stubborn all the same.

The warmth of her mother against her face brings upon the stirrings of nostalgia from the deepest strongholds of her memory, overriding the horror Magnolia feels at snapping at Florabreeze, again. Magnolia feels her mother is equally as rigid, as though afraid of her own daughter- justifiably so. The blue molly is coaxed by echoes of memories by her mother's side, made real by their proximity, and her forehead shifts so her cheek now nuzzles into the other's shoulder. She shudders, from fear and apprehension to be so near the tabby but also the shock of how much she yearned for the trifling moment of tense affection.

When she feels the soft caress of Florebreeze's tail against herself she stills, the shuddering sobs subside. Magnolia's cheek moves so her fur just barely grazes Florabreeze's, the slightest hint of her displeasure at further efforts for affection. She does not immediately withdraw, instead she listens to her mother's apology. The emotion, the tender sincerity of her voice is so brutally clear and seem to sting Magnolia's ears as they flinch back to plaster against her head. Florabreeze initiating further contact with her estranged daughter should have been expected by Magnolia, and yet it is still frightening. The shifting of Florabreeze's body to harmlessly brush her head against Magnolia's ignites anger.

Florabreeze's proclamation of love is lost on her. The molly flinches back, rearing her head away from the comfort and danger of her mother's shoulder. Her chest heaves as she rapidly attempts to catch her breath lost by intermittent sobs and the anger brought upon by her mother. "Why did you-" Florabreeze ruined the brief respite from their troubles, a truce of sorts which Magnolia tried to negotiate. In a daze Magnolia tries to barrel at her mother but stumbles, having set too much weight on her sprained ankle. She whimpers and the blue molly falls back onto her haunches to ground herself before she attempts to launch herself at Florabreeze again.

"Don't touch me," Magnolia snivels, her head falling in shame to her chest. She does not mean to be so cruel and rash. There is no desire within the molly to harm her mother, but the impulse is uncontrollable. With another pitiful whimper she takes a sharp intake of breath and glowers at Florabreeze. "...just don't, please. I can't, I cannot... I want to be a daughter, I want my mother..." Her teeth grit as she uncomfortably withers beneath the miserable stare of Florabreeze. "You aren't... not yet..."

Florabreeze is no fool, she knows the art of body language. There is pride in usually how perceptive she is of others, there is a greed to her though. The yearning sort, a hungry maw of motherhood that had been ripped from her. She's had opportunities to act a motherly kind of role, Blue and then Honeysplash's children come to mind. She has acted that part well, to the best of her ability, though there's always reservations held. Just once she wanted to not feel that, she is a selfish creature in that regard. So she saw the opportunity to maybe not have her daughter snarl at her for once and took it, wanting to show that she loves. That she cares, she needed to express it. Magnolia didn't have to share the sentiment at all but it had been something she herself had lamented over since their (what she believed to be) chance meeting back at Twolegplace. Truthfully Florabreeze had thought that to be it, to be given an opportunity like this again... She couldn't squander it.

The kickback is what gives her that run of guilt, thick and clogging her veins. The way her heart palpitates for a moment gives her cause for concern that she may experience a heart attack sometime. That isn't the case though, instead she is left reeling in the face of the consequences for such a selfish act. "I'm sorry-" she speaks at the same time of her daughter, it isn't enough. She isn't enough. There is a tension, a brace of sorts, anticipating the worst but it doesn't come. Instead she has to watch her firstborn stumble in her anger, there is the reminder there as she falls that her being in the clan might not have been of her own volition. Instead her paw is forced, because someone had injured her. Then there's that quiet anger she feels, it's rare and fleeting, having really only experiencing it when against Duke or when Bloody Mary is particularly excited to try and jump her.

There's that desire to see someone bleed, to sprain the leg of whoever did this to her daughter. It's a cornered animal, one she keeps on a far tighter leash than her twolegs ever could but it is there. Magnolia falls and she is quick to try and help her, prepared to butt her head against the she-cat's flank in an attempt to uplift her. The sniveling tone is enough to set her back, blinking in concern and surprise even if she has no right to be. "I want to be, let me try" she pleads, it's a foreign thing to her but she does it anyways.

"How can I be?" She thinks to ask, with flattened ears and a rather pathetic expression. She doesn't care for upholding her self image, not with her. One of the few cats who can easily tear it down with an off handed remark.
