When Will I See You Again? [Howlingfam]

✵ ღ ☾ IT TOOK ME BY SURPRISE - She had been stopped once before, but that had been in the middle of the night- and by someone Lakepaw simply couldn’t refuse, because the tabby didn’t trust her, at least that’s what she had told herself.
Today, however, she had left early in the morning, assuring Houndsnarl that she was just going on a solo hunt, it was perfectly believable- she was Lakepaw after all, when wasn’t she hunting, or sharpening her comb and skills? Especially after that hunger-crazed rogue, who’d left a nasty facial scar to remember them by.
Silently, she broke the tree-line, lurking further and further into Thunderclan’s territory, the smell of sap and oak were strong, but not as overwhelming as Skyclan’s scent had been.
She hadn’t seen her family since the fire, since her mothers passing, and this meeting would be short- a surprise, even.
She hadn’t expected to hear nearby voices so quickly, but once she had she quickly sprung into the undergrowth, sweeping her feathery tail to her flank to keep it from straying.
Narrow azure optics searched between the blades of fern, so far she didn’t recognize anyone on this patrol- not even from the gatherings the blue tabby had attended.
Finally, bringing up the rear, earth and snow came into view, a familiar motherly voice reaching her ears.
Ready to implode with the anticipation, Lakepaw watched as the rest of the patrol began to trail forward, before she’d kick her forepaw forward, sending dirt and the sound of rustling forward, Lakepaw knew Howling Wind was too keen to resist an investigation.
Only when the brown tabby would near is when Lakepaw would lift her head ever so slightly, to only where her silver ear tips would show before she flick them to and fro to catch her grandmothers attention, subconsciously prolonging the reveal her newly acquired scar from the other for as long as she could.

THE HATRED IN HER EYES

It isn't often that Howling Wind takes up the rear of the patrol, but today she's watching Sloepaw closely. Up ahead, he scents the air and continues on with the rest of their clanmates, and he observes in silence, picking apart his habits and mistakes, although he hasn't made any mistakes yet. She is entirely focused on him up ahead when a sudden spray of dirt causes her to jump, ears pricking forward as she looks down in surprise. There's a rustle in the brush nearby, and already the fur along the tabby's spine rises slightly. With green eyes narrowed within her skull, she creeps forward - is it prey?

Before she sees the silver ear-tips, she smells fish. Instant confusion is then washes away as deep blue eyes peer up at her, and the woman's gaze stretches wide upon realization. "Lakepaw?" She whispers, and quickly jerks her head in the direction of the patrol. They've disappeared by now, but she's still on edge. Swinging her head back around to her granddaughter, she mews in a hushed tone, "What are you doing here? Your RiverClan scent is strong enough for anyone here to track you down!" Doesn't she realize any other cat might have attacked her for being in their territory? But she can't stay mad; it's her kin, for crying out loud! She moves to rub her cheek affectionately against the blue tabby's, a soft purr rumbling in her throat before she pulls away to smile. "Look at you, growing into such a beautiful she-cat. How are things in RiverClan, anyway?"
