Please wait for @SUNSTAR

[ ༻ ❊ ༺ ] When his "declaration" of claiming Rattlwheart as his mentor didn't go all too well due to him being apparently too big for the tunnels, and the chances were that he'd be a moor-runner instead, rhe tom couldn't help but trot up to Sunstar who, had just been relaxing in a sunny spot, his fur glowing in the sun's ray and he wondered, was that why he was called Sunstar? Blinking their bi-color gaze slightly, he reached his paw out to put next to their leader's noting that his was slightly smaller than their leader and his tail swished slightly with a frown on his lips.

Finally, he would look to the older tom with the burning question on his tongue. "Why can't I be a tunneler like Rattleheart?" voice soft as a summer breeze, a head tilt on the pale dusty tom. By all means wasn't he smaller than Sunstar (wasn't taking in account he was still growing), even his paws? Yet... he did silently note he was bigger than some of his denmates, but he didn't think that it couldn't mean he wasn't able to be train as one or by Rattleheart, who in which he had grown quite fond of since they as well as Cottonpaw were always around watching the kits alongside the queens whenever they weren’t on patrol or helping the injured.

"And how does starclan chose who mentors me? I thought you chose," tiny ears twitched slightly while looking up to the tom, his tail curling over his paws while he awaited for the leader to answer his burning questions even though they were indeed quite silly perhaps, but he still wanted to know why, and how. Wanting a better understanding of how his own path would be decided even before he was a 'paw himself.

Truth be told, he does not know why Sootstar had chosen his name. Perhaps it was indeed for his pelt, or the closeness to who he had been before WindClan. He does glow beneath the sun's rays, well-groomed and mighty, radiating warmth. That he should be named for both aspects of the sky — burning light, cleansing night — has not escaped him since he stood before StarClan. Whether that is a gift from these ancestors, or those that had woven his fate back in the mountains, he does not know. It amuses him to think that they would collaborate. Those he gave offerings to so as to keep Wolfsong healthy through the birth of their kits had never struck him as benevolent until then. Or perhaps this still is only a period of peace, not meant to last.

He would make the most of it regardless.

With a curious silence lingering overhead, he entertains the moment that takes over. Lakekit, next to him, their paws side by side nearly comical. He does not often think about how small WindClanners were. To him, this was home. Outside of their borders however. . . he knows that they are among the smallest of cats. Had Sootstar chosen this for herself as she came to these moors? Was it happenstance alone that gave her the smallest of the colonies before? Sunstar is no beast to the other clans, but among WindClan he is certainly larger than what one would expect. Unquestionably larger than Lakekit. And yet–

It makes sense, because of this, that he questions his place as a moor runner. Sunstar chuckles softly. "My paws are a poor measure of what a moor runner's must be," he cautions. From there, he pauses. Though his eyes are still focused upon Lakekit, his gaze is distant. Shot far past the kitten and into the earth. When he begins, he speaks slowly. "WindClan is not the first to have made a home within these moors. Beneath your very paws lies a part of our territory so few can safely see. The tunnels are made by rabbits and badgers, cared for by many paws since they were discovered." This lesson does not feel like his own to tell, yet there are none of his tunnelers close enough that he might beg for their guidance. (And he does look for them, seaglass eyes flitting about.)

"Have you seen the prey that we bring to camp? The rabbits and the hares? Those are the creatures that fit comfortably among these tunnels. And you will grow far beyond what a tunneler must, we believe. And that is not my decision to make. It was StarClan's, in the shape that they gave you."

[ ༻ ❊ ༺ ] Lakekit listened to Sunstars explanation to why he was not befitted to be a tunneler and yet still a slight look of confusion danced in his bicolor gaze. Rabbits and badgers made the tunnels before them and yet from the tales he has heard, weren't badgers big? His tail flicked slightly. "Aren't badgers huge?" he softly asked, tilting his head slightly at his next inquiry.

Their gaze then flicked back towards the prey pile, noting the hares amongst the other critters that had been caught and blinked a bit. They were small, and he hummed slightly taking in the guess that once he has grown more, he would probably not be able to wiggle his way in or out of the ground below without getting stuck or pushed out by the rest of his own clanmates, which would be quite embarrassing to say the least.

"I see... then.." he blinked, as much as it disappointed him that he would not have a chance to be mentored by one of the few warriors he had been fond of, he still didn't quite understand. "Does Starclan tell you who would be a good mentor for us...?" he wondered gesturing towards the nursery to imply more to what he meant by his own question. He knew he'll learn more of all this as he got older, after all thats what the mentors were there for, right? And yet Lakekit still couldn't understand why it would be Starclan who'd choose and not their own leader. "You've seen them, right? Are they pretty? Starclan, I mean" he prompted softly.
