[Stoneheart]

The river looked so good right about now. The blue waters lapping at the shore and dancing with glistening sunlight. The wretched sun that dared bare down heat of a thousands suns on that way with no breeze to be found, shade seemed hot or not that much better and a clear blue sky. Cicadas could be heard chirping in the distance on this simmering day and Stoneheart wanted nothing more than to sit in the water for- well forever.

The blue tabby tomcat hated the new leaf and green leaf times as it was always so suffocating. With a long tabby coat, it was rather difficult to stay cool when the sun never seemed to show mercy nor did their ancestors bless them with some sort of wind or rain. Not even a cloud! A huff left his blue furred maw and he glared a little at the ground, but he tried to keep up the motivation to continue this border patrol.

They had been walking for what felt like hours but in this heat it felt like hours. Though at least it wasnt terrible as he wasnt alone in his suffering of hot, sun green leaf days. Sandtongue was with him and they had been in silence for the most part as it was far too hot to really have a conversation and walk at the same time. Or well that was how he felt about it at least.

Still, Stoneheart couldnt take much more of this and he glanced to the other warrior, “We should take a break and sit in a puddle or something” He offered to her and gestured with his tail towards a nearby, shallow stream that trailed along, “I dont know about you but i am going to start sweating and i dont think that’s suppose to be physically possible?” He gave a light chuckle and flicked his tail back and forth behind him.

[Sandtongue]

〔☼〕Sandtongue felt the breeze try to ruffle through her long fur, but it got stuck in the curls and tufts, having not been bothered to be upkept in a short while it was messy and unkempt. She dragged her paws step after step in the horrid heat, watching as the breeze made the shore lap a little closer to her paws as she padded along it with her patrol companion. Patrols weren't always made up of four or five individuals, especially not ones headed to a border or two.

After all, two cats moved a lot quicker than four... especially if they didn't talk much.

On the down side, though, she didn't know the male very well and was nowhere near comfortable in their current pace nor the heat baking the both of them. She stopped along the stream when Stoneheart (Why had he been given that name? Was it because he had a heart made of stone? Was he a mean warrior? Should she be warry of him?) suggested they stop for a dip in a puddle. This wasn't considered a puddle... was it?

She gladly obliged, immediately stepping into the not-quite tepid water as it sloshed onto the shoreline from the sudden movement. "Yeah, I, uhm, don't really, uh, know if it is." She told him, ears flicking while she waded through the shallow water. She found a flat spot and laid down, stretching out her overheated paws and dunking herself. If she hadn't been underwater she most definitely would've sighed.

Stoneheart silently cursed himself as they wondered near the flow of water and she waded through the waters of the stream. He was terrible at being sociable with anyone, he was just far too awkward sometimes. Well- all of the time but he was trying at least. He flicked his ears and nodded at her words, understanding she didnt know and his joke wasnt as funny as he thought it was.

Sandtongue laid in the water and the tabby cat gave a light breath as he too laid in the water. It was not super cold like he’d wish it was but it was enough to beat the heat of the beating sun. Green leaf brought so much but the weather he could do without surely.

“Do you think mice or fish get hot? If i wish a mouse id hide in the darkest roots I could find to beat this heat.” The blue tabby cat mused to the other warrior and flicked his tail out from the water, watching the droplets drip from fur. Stoneheart then looked down into the water and set down his tail, wondering briefly what else they could do. The patrol was dragging and this border felt like it went on forever.

〔☼〕Sandtongue enjoyed the mild cold of the water rather than wishing for colder, wholly content with the lukewarm, even if something colder would've provided a nice barrier between her and the heat that this tom seemed to be quite fond of talking about. "If the fish get hot they probably uhm, sleep under a rock or something? Or maybe they just die. I dunno." Her morbid comments would roll off the tongue and she winced at her bluntness. She usually kept that side of her under wraps. "But uhm, we should hunt or something and then get back to camp. We're almost done anyways."
