Bearcloud had always been quite proud of his hunting abilities. His usual quiet-pawed steps made it easy for him to sneak up upon a group without having to try, and he'd felt like a genius when he discovered that littering his pelt with flowers could mask his scent from unsuspecting mice and squirrels.

However, leafbare was making him question himself a bit. He'd been out hunting regularly as one of the lucky ones unscathed from the double strike of Riverclan and Shadowclan, knowing he should take some responsibility and provide more for those out for the count. Yet, while he was out to find just one stray starling, perhaps even a vole if he was lucky, the only thing he caught was the sniffles as the bitter cold stung his nose.

That didn't stop him, though, and he had reinforcements in the form of Amberdawn. They'd been out a good while already, paws crunching down upon the morning frost in an attempt to find prey when they were first waking. Bearcloud had yet to find anything, but he tried to stay positive. Two sets of paws working together were better than one, right?

"I hope we can get a good haul this time," Bearcloud mused as the two of them searched for a good spot to scout, "I feel like I've been chasing my little brother around trying to keep him out of trouble more than chasing mice recently…"

Bearcloud laughed to himself and shook his head at his little tangent.

"Anyway, how's your hunting luck been?" he asked Amberdawn, "hopefully better than mine."

Amberdawn raised her left pad and gave a flick to a bit of sludge that clung to her cream-colored paw. She curled her lip slightly as she padded forward once more, only to feel the cold from the earth seep back into her paw. *I hate when it's a wet kind of cold*, she thought with a wince, flicking her ears towards Bearcloud as they spoke. The tom had invited her on a midday hunting patrol, and Amberdawn wasn't the kind of cat to say no to a hunt. Besides, It was smart to go around this time of day. The warmth the sun provided at this time would surely lure some prey out of hiding.

"Your little brother," she hummed, a smile creeping on her face. "What's Addersnap been getting up to lately?" As the pair continued along, she picked up her pace to match Bearcloud's and shook her head with a light sigh."I wish yours had gone better, all I've managed to catch was a thin hare. No doubt the meat will be stringy though, I want to catch better for the warriors that came back from the battle." She murmured, her eyes gleaming for a moment as she caught sight of something ahead.

Amberdawn crept forward, signaling with her tail for a moment to be quiet. In the clearing ahead, a sparrow pecked at the dirt beneath an oak tree. Amberdawn presumed the bird had found some insects beneath the soil. She turned to Bearcloud and whispered in a hushed voice "We should plan an ambush, you can hide in the bushes opposite of the clearing, so I can chase the bird towards you." With a twitch of her whiskers, she added "Let's hope our muscles are feeling warm enough for a leap at a sparrow." Before crouching in the bush once more, looking to Bearcloud for their reply.
