There had been a lot to take in as of late and it was eating away at Shadowpaw's psyche, more than he'd like to admit. It was why he found himself unable to sleep. No matter how hard he tried he simply could not find peace that eve, so after deciding to avoid disturbing his fellow clanmates with his tossing and turning he picked his path away from the slumbering forms of the other felines to a more secluded spot in the camp. Once there he sat himself down with his gaze cast towards the night sky above. The stars twinkled above and held his attention, that is until something bright streaked across the sky. The suddenness caught him off guard and he flinched back with surprise, but his expression was that of awe. Another shot across the sky, almost as though chasing the first into the inky abyss. "StarClan must be chasing something..." That made sense, right? He wasn't sure how else to explain what he was seeing.

.°☀ AND IF IT EVER STARTS TO FEEL BAD, LITTLE FANG

Sunflowerpaw is awake again, unable to sleep from pain and restlessness. Confined to the medicine den, they can't do much but lay in their nest and watch. It gives them a good vantage point, they have to admit, nearest the entrance of the den and able to see the whole of the camp. Tonight, they stare silently as a shape weaves through the nests of their Clanmates -- Shadowpaw, they realize after a moment, their brother. He moves to a secluded corner, not far from the medicine den, clearly unaware that he is being watched. His gaze turns to the sky, and his sibling follows suit.

It's then that a bright streak makes its way across the sky, a brilliant flash that lasts only a moment. Another follows suit, a tail of light chasing after the first across the endless black expanse. "StarClan must be chasing something..." they hear their brother say. Sunflowerpaw hums, softly, in agreement. Must be a WindClanner, they think, to be darting so fast past all the other stars.

IT'S EASY TO EXPLAIN 'CAUSE THIS WORLD'S NOT TAME .°☀

STEADY THE RIGHTS AND THE WRONGS
periwinklepaw | 08 months | demi-boy | he/they | physically easy (pacifist) | mentally easy | attack in bold #ccccff
It is not uncommon to find periwinklepaw up and about on nights such as this - in fact, it's rarer still to find him asleep. His oddities are well known within the clan by now, and so it is unsurprising when he slips forth from the medicine den to spend some time within the camp, watch the stars overhead and think. What is a surprise is that he is not alone - clear blue gaze softening when he sees that its shadowpaw who sits looking at the heavens above. "W-wonder if they'll catch it," he says softly, a gentle smile on his face. There is so little happiness and comfort to be found these days, he eagerly soaks in what he can. A quiet hum alerts him to sunflowerpaws wakefulness, but they don't say anything and so neither does he. He's simply happy to not be alone.

❪ TAGS ❫ — If Snakepaw hadn't lifted his gaze to the skies at just the right moment, there was little chance that he would have believed Shadowpaw. The streak of light twinkles in his dim emerald eyes, a sense of intrigue and wonder awakening within the apprentice. "It was quick. Maybe it was a WindClanner." There were rabbits up in StarClan, right? When other cats said that a fallen warrior "hunted with StarClan", surely that meant that the celestial prey was abundant and would never run low. That sounded pleasant, never having to struggle for a meal again, though being dead was the only downside of the deal he supposed. How was life in StarClan? Was there a starry camp, starry moors to bound across, no borders or quarrels between the dead? Snakepaw doubts that the living would never truly know the answer — the ancestors were so cryptic with their messages as it was.

A moment passes, further pondering an explanation behind the light streak above. "Maybe it's..." Juniperfrost. Maybe he was up there chasing the RiverClanners in circles for what they did to him. Snakepaw debates on bringing him up, though, as his death was still fresh in everybody's minds and he didn't want to put a damper on the mood.

The biting cold of the night did very little to bother him. Thick fur did many favours, and though he longed for a warmer presence at his side he could live off the beach of his own heart and the rush of his own blood alone. Low voices buzzed nearby, speaking of a pursuit- they must be talking abut the streak of starlight that had bled the sky like a paper cut only a moment before, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. The souls of the rotted skeletons dwelled up there, spangled... it was not too far-fetched to believe they would sometimes fidget.

A cheery chirp from where he lay, Mallowlark offered his own verdict to the small gathering of apprentices. "Maybe it's one of 'em falling down to visit... hopefully they land on their feet," and he did not stop himself, despite the tender atmosphere, before letting a laugh shudder out of him. "Else they'll- HAH, splatter into star-bits!" It was meant to be a joke implying how impossible it would be for someone to die twice, but came out more as if he was laughing at the concept of falling from a great height and dying. To some extent, the cartoonish violence he imagined was a little funny...

It became increasingly more rare, the nights that Sunstride did not find his body prepared to rest. With the life that they had first led, long before WindClan and these moors, it had been an important life skill to drop at any given moment, and to awaken just as quickly. Because of this he was a light sleeper, with a tendency to take shorter rests throughout the day. Now that everything in his life had been uprooted, however, such systems did not work as well as they once had. He still startled at any motion too close to his nest– and that is what has called him here, beneath these stars again. Sleep-ruffled and quiet, striding upon the group with his ears having not quite caught the whole of it, he chooses first to sit. The star had been a glimpse, nothing more, and yet...Snakepaw's thoughts cling to his mind.

Mallowlark, of course, was far stranger with his words and his ideas both. Glacial eyes turn to the black-pawed tom, one brow raised in an expression between curiosity and reprimand. "I find myself preferring Snakepaw's tale," he chuckles softly. "Better a hunt than a fall from such heights." Wolfsong would be better prepared for it than he.

  • SUNSTRIDE. named for his coloration and his bold chasing of fate.
—— cis male, he - him. thirty-six moons old. lead warrior of windclan and former rogue.
—— gay, but somewhat closeted. will not be open about his interests.  single, will be so.
—— seems comparatively stranger than who he was some moons ago, serious and cool.

sunstride is broad and bold– a creature standing above most of windclan, though not a beast beyond its borders, with fur that flames red at its base and deepens to a burnt amber with every whorl and stripe. his eyes, in comparison, are a pale summer's blue, still as bold as the rest of him.

The black furred tom doesn't bring his gaze away from the stars when Sunflowerpaw approached him, though he did give a hum of acknowledged reply to their own noise. Sometimes words just weren't needed, even though Shadowpaw knew he had a habit of talking others to death if he wasn't careful.
Watching the night sky with his sibling would have been something pleasant, though the thing with clans was that one was never alone, and sure enough others found their way over. Periwinklepaw, Snakepaw, Marrowlark, and Sunstride. They discuss what it could be and frankly Shadowpaw finds himself in agreement more with Snakepaw's theory. Though Marrowlark's words did leave him thinking about something strange. "Is it possible for StarClan cats to fall from the sky? I mean... what if they did something bad? Would that get them cast out? And if such a thing were possible where would they go?"

Under silence he would come to join the group as he had found them outside when he himself had been intending to watch the stars tonight like he did any other night. Vulturemask ears would perk up when he heared what his younger brother said, something that many might be wondering but no one had yet dared to ask. " That's an excellent question Shadowpaw." he would say as he come to seat down beside his brother, his gaze liftening up to the nighty sky. That indeed was a good question. What would happen to them if not starclan took them in?. " Starclan is just and wouldn't want undeserving cats among them. I think if starclan judges you to be unworthy you will get cast out and for enternity you will wander down here on earth lost and never finding peace. The perfect punishment for a sinner who dare cross starclan. " he had no real clue if this was the truth or not but he liked the idea of inflecting fear into his clanmates that night for them to think even for a moment for the possibility of it being true.

"You think so? Such a fate would be horrible!" Just thinking about it made the youth shudder and he found himself instinctively moving to be closer to Vulturemask for the sake of comfort and protection. Surely as the revered medicine cat he held the power to shield them from such things, to keep them safe and on the right path. No doubt all those who had been exiled from WindClan were doomed to become nothing more than cursed ghosts haunting the lands.

Aha, had he scared them?. That had not been his intentions. Not really. The others perhaps but not his sweet goodhearted younger brother. Vulturemask would respond to their plea of comfort from him by bringing his tail closer to them like a protective web. " You've nothing to worry about. A such fate will never befall you Shadowpaw. Your heart is at the right place. Never let anyone change that." he would glance down at his kin as he spoke these truthful words. Shadowpaw was a pure soul, one who only wanted to do good in this life. He was like a flower blooming among weeds. Starclan could see that. Shadowpaw was nothing like the vermins they lived among. He would never let the vermin get their claws on them. No matter what he would make sure they all joined starclan one day. All four of them because without them Vulturemask would never get his happy ending.
