camp wish that you can fast forward } patrols

AS HE RAISED HIS FIST BEFORE HE SPOKE — It was a strange feeling, striding out in front of everyone to the middle of a camp bustling with cats ready and eager to head out on patrols. It was even stranger to raise his muzzle to the sky, voice chipper and confident as he demanded the attention of those milling around about him. "Everyone, gather around! I've got patrols to hand out this time, and I'd better not hear any whining about where you end up." His last words were directed in particular towards the apprentices nearby, knowing full well that that plenty of them were eager to get out to the borders of other clans. The lead warrior couldn't really begrudge them that, even if his pelt pricked at the thought of such young cats anywhere near the Riverclan border.

His gaze scans over the gathered crowd, pale green glittering as it sought out the one cat he trusted over anyone - perhaps even Sunstar. His sister's colorful face was staring back at him, prompting a crooked grin on his muzzle. "First off - Scorchstreak. I'd like you and Pinkpaw to go and check on the state of the tunnels near Thunderclan's border, while Addervenom, Firefang, and Heatherpaw mark the border at dawn. Might as well utilized our tunnelers and moor runners all at once, right? Make any repairs you think are needed while you're there, and if there's anything bigger that needs to be done we can figure it out once you're back." Rattleheart wasn't too worried about Thunderclan giving them any trouble, considering how Howlingstar had interacted with them in the past. It seemed as though she was actually willing to give them a chance, a fact that he didn't intend to jeopardize by sending any of their more volatile cats out. Addervenom and Firefang were both tough, but they were also good at following orders, and if Scorchstreak told them not to cause trouble, he had every reason to believe they would listen.

Next was another of his fellow lead warriors, her silver pelt sticking out from the crowd well enough - likely not very far from Scorchstreak's side. "Bluepool." His head was dipped briefly in her direction, before his tail flicked off towards the same border. "I'd like you to lead the dusk patrol nearer to the Riverclan border, while taking Mouseflight and Redheart with you - and Featherpaw, of course. Remember that we don't want any trouble with them, just don't let them think we've rolled over to show our bellies either." He had his doubts about Redheart helping too much on the intimidation side of things - he loved his son, but the warrior was hardly the frightening, scowling type. However, that was what Bluepool and Featherpaw were for, along with the often vaguely annoyed form of Mouseflight. "And Mouseflight, give the tunnels near there a brief once over too, same as Scorchstreak." He would normally split the patrols more than this, but they were so low on tunnelers lately that such a thing was simply impractical.

Shadowclan was next, and Rattleheart searched until he could find the smoky black pelt of a cat that looked much like himself in terms of color, only more muddled. "Periwinklebreeze, you're heading to Shadowclan this time. Take Foxglare, Sedgepounce, and Sparkspirit with you, please? No tunneler this go around, but I'm sure the ground around there is still soft enough anyways that it'll pay to wait for a little while. So just mark the border and keep an eye out." A big patrol, sure, but the tunneler still wasn't exactly sure where he stood on Shadowclan. On one paw he preferred them to Shadowclan, and he liked the general no-nonsense attitude of their deputy - it didn't leave him guessing. On the other hand, they couldn't exactly expect any clan to be chummy at the moment without consequences. Hence, a cautious patrol of five including Sunlitpaw.

Already his usually hoarse voice was beginning to sound like it had gone through a shredder from so much talking, but he powered through the roughness - hoping everyone else would be able to understand him still. "As for the Horseplace... Sunstar, would you please lead the patrol out there and to the lands nearby? Take Rabbitclaw, Slateheart, and... Snakehiss, with you. I'm sure the barn cats will be glad to see some familiar faces if you decide to stop in, and it'll be good to see if there's anything unusual out there at the moment." Sunstar was more prepared than anyone to face Sootstar's fled loyalists with the strength of nine lives on his shoulders, and Snakehiss... Snakehiss was bait, if Rattleheart was being honest. Perhaps they'd be more inclined to show themselves if the deputy that had betrayed them was patrolling alongside other Windclanners proper. "And Rabbitclaw - again, check on any tunnels out there. Try to avoid Scorchstreak and I's blood." He briefly grinned at the thought of the battle that had taken place near the tunnels there, actually feeling somewhat fond about the chance he had been given to dig his claws into the loyalists at that point. Normally he wouldn't celebrate violence, but Hollowcreek had been a special case.

Nearly there... so close. Starclan, he had nearly forgotten himself in the rush of it all, hadn't he? "As for me... some of you may know about how Marmotbite managed to escape to the barn by using a tunnel collapse to her advantage. While I admire the ingenuity, I'd also like us to be able to rebuild that tunnel if possible. So Heathermoon, Whitedawn. You'll both accompany me in checking the state of it and seeing how much progress we can make in forming it back up. Downypaw, you'll be coming along as well of course." Rattleheart nodded towards his apprentice and the tunnelers that he had picked up, hoping that they were ready to get their paws duty. He knew Downypaw's practical experience so far had been limited, but that was fine. This would be the perfect opportunity for him to get some, seeing a tunnel being built back up from what was left behind.

A brief croak left the lead warrior's throat before he let out a cough, shaking his head with a scowl. His voice had already been harsh before the yellowcough had held him in an iron grip for a while, and it had only become worse even after he had been cured. "Finally, I've gotten a request from the medicine cats for a few cats to go with them on an herb collecting patrol now that the fields have blossomed. So Wolfsong, Cottonpaw, how about you take... Gravelsnap, Bearpaw, and... Sootspot." He could cause the least damage in that particular group with a muzzle full of flowers, and no one else would be forced to deal with him - besides Wolfsong, who Rattleheart was confident could handle him just fine. As for Bearpaw... Rattleheart hadn't seen Brightshine in a while, and it seemed like he would be happy to go along with his ðir and collect herbs. "Like the other tunnelers, check out any nearby tunnels for things to make note of. And hey, you might find some other herbs popping up down there." He briefly met the other tunneler's eyes, his tail twitching and lashing behind him as if looking for Sootspot to try and challenge him.

Finally, it seemed that he had reached everyone - or at least everyone that he had seen around as of late. Rattleheart didn't immediately take off on his own patrol though, tail coiling around his paws as he sat and waited for any stragglers. "If anyone didn't get an assignment and wants one, just come and see me and I'll figure out something for you to do, don't worry." Although he silently hoped not too many faces would pop up, so that he'd be able to go and enjoy the silence of the tunnels as a balm to his aching throat.

⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆ Slateheart was happier than ever to be chosen for patrols lately. It seemed that he had gone mostly unnoticed under Sootstar's reign - as was his intent - but the lack of patrolling left him wandering solo more often than not. He was content now to help his Clan, prove his worth, and most importantly, keep himself busy.

Patrolling with Sunstar was nice, too. He'd get more glimpses into what kind of presence the leader commanded, and in turn learned how to shape himself to match those expectations. He was quickly learning when to hold his tongue, and when to stand his ground. All the things Slateheart should have learned under his previous leader, if only he hadn't shied away for so many moons. He was learning how to be a warrior.

He didn't mind the presence of Snakehiss, so long as the tom could hold his tongue. It seemed that having kits was shaping the tom into something more disciplined and tolerable than the irritating hothead he once was. There were cats that would prove more bothersome on this patrol, and he figured Snakehiss was the least troublesome of those options. All thoughts of his patrolmates were overshadowed when he realized where they were going. At the mention of Horseplace, a small smile crept onto the tom's face - in comparison to his normal gloom, he was practically beaming. He'll get to see Silverfoot again!

༄༄ Although Scorchstreak has become focused in on the clan’s tunnel project, she understands that patrols to the borders are important as well. It isn’t that she dislikes trekking all the way to the borders—she does so daily to check on the tunnels anyway—but it is the small talk and forced friendliness with other clans that tend to make her hackles prickle. Still, when Rattleheart calls for patrol assignments, the calico strides over to stand before her brother. He assigns her to ThunderClan’s border, working in tandem with the moor runners assigned to the same border, and Scorchstreak flicks an ear at him in satisfaction. Addervenom and Firefang are two cats the lead warrior isn’t certain about, but they both seem just as dedicated as any other warrior.

"Got it," she says to her brother with a dip of her head. There is no time to waste, and so she turns to look around for the others on her patrol. "We leave soon. Get ready to head out." Her voice offers no room for argument—they need to head out soon if they’re to have any time left to work on the tunnel to RiverClan afterward.

Mistcrawl clicks his head to the side. His opinion means nothing but dirt to many of these cats, as even though he is several seasons their senior, he is incredibly crippled by his many moons as a stuffed-full kitty-pet. That said, watching Rattleheart step up to the plate and command their thrall of cats is... odd. Making him a lead warrior at all was a weird choice for Sunstar, in the older tom's opinion - but he's seen the black-and-white moggy in action, both above and beneath the ground. There's something to work with there, clearly.

"Sorry t'hold y'up, Rattleheart," the chocolate tabby coughs, almost mimicking the other. He cracks a crooked, awkward smile, "Y'got anything for me around camp today? Y'don't gotta send me out to the fields or tunnels; I'm all set with the pollen for the next year, I feel." A joke, though he's not certain it'll be taken well.

Patrolling was not the most exciting of a warriors duties but a imperative one Firefang took seriously. The protection of her homes borders was not something she'd slack on, though hearing it's Thunderclans border means she won't have to be as vigilant regardless she doesn't raise any complaints and merely dips her head Rattlehearts way, there would be a time later where she'd get to flash her claws the dawn patrol just wasn't the time. She's about to turn to head back to where she'd been lounging until it was time to head out, but her ears prick at the sound of her patrol leaders words; Scorchstreak. She didn't hold any more issues then disagreeing with the leader she backed (even then she was torn in many ways of how to feel about that said leader), she was a strong admirable warrior and one who'd never done anything annoying or grave enough to earn her ire.

"Right, on it" She didn't really need to prepare, she was awake and alert that's all she needed to be.

➴➴ The last patrol assignments had been great—Gravelsnap had been asked to go with Peri, something he always appreciates. Any time spent in the vicinity of the black-pointed tom is time well spent, in their eyes. They can hardly believe that they had once despised him. Now he is a lead warrior, though, with more responsibility and more tasks to take up his time—Gravelsnap enjoys any time spent at his side, even if it is for a boring patrol to another clan’s border. Today, though, it seems they haven’t been assigned to work alongside their friend; instead, their day plans are passed over to Wolfsong and Cottonpaw. They don’t mind going patrolling in search of herbs, of course, but they’d much rather spend the time with Peri. Still, they don’t have much of a choice, so they nod to Rattleheart, accepting the lead warrior’s assignment. "Ready whenever," they state, glancing around to try and find one of the clan’s healers.

AS HE RAISED HIS FIST BEFORE HE SPOKE — Ah... it seemed he wasn't lucky enough to be left without anyone who needed an additional assignment. The lead warrior's throat practically screamed at him as his head turned towards Mistcrawl - grinning lazily at the senior tunneler even through the harsh sting. "Mistcrawl... sorry I didn't get to you sooner, must have slipped my mind while I was organizing everyone." One white paw pressed lightly against his own throat, soothing the roughness there as he cast a glance around their camp. Surely there was a task he could give tabby in camp, away from the swarming flowers and the thick cloud of pollen that they brought along with them.

Eventually a small oh of realization left him, a smile curling on his muzzle even as he yanked his paw down and away from his ailing neck. "I've got it. Some of the heather and moss around the elders' den is looking a little... sad, these days. I think it all got trampled and mangled over the course of leafbare and all the fights. Do you think you'd be able to pull out some of the dead heather and moss, and replace the moss with a little of our fresh supply for growing? Feel free to ask anyone left over in camp to help you with it - I'm sure the kits would be happy to lend a paw too, if you can get them to listen." It wasn't exactly as if they could just replace the heather around the den - they were cats, not farmers - but they could at least make sure the dead bits were swept away and disposed of. The moss was even easier, considering Rattleheart had seen it springing up and spreading around pretty much anywhere it could reach once it settled.

It's rattlehearts turn to announce patrols - something peri is grateful for, really, because starclan only knows how he's going to manage it when the time comes. Still, he pads over on near-silent paws, tired blue eyes focused on his fellow lead as they list who all is going where. Periwinklebreeze is assigned to shadowclan - not his favorite clan, but at least he's less likely to step into a brawl than if it were riverclan. And his patrol mates are cats he feels comfortable working alongside - head nods along agreeably. " W-we'll head out r-right away, " he says, speaking to those whose names had been called - it's not like they have anything better to do, and really he'd rather get this out of the way and leave the rest of his day and night for hunting.
