pafp with ropes for the bucket ☆ slug racing

In spite of the pale, argent fur that demanded cleanliness and tidy paws, the muck was never far from eager, webbed toes. Sifting through the dirt and mud with a satisfied grin plastered upon their face, the apprentice's tail flicks back and forth in an excited twitching as they drone on to their den-mate with childish delight. "I'm surprised you haven't tried this before, Lupinepaw," a toothy smile finds the other girl as they muse further, "They're definitely gross to touch but..."

A scooping motion in the disturbed, watered-down dirt reveals what is the start of a small collection of writhing, wriggling creatures. They are not meant to be eaten... at least, Edenpaw would never stoop that low to try.... but if they were, it would be something they could cheer over as a 'first successful hunt.' Slugs, some wayward snails plucked from nearby leaves, even some beetles had been caught while meandering by.

Waving their paw ceremoniously towards the critters that scrambled to escape the looming shadow of their captor, Edenpaw is gracious in allowing their friend the first selection. "Go ahead and pick one you think looks like a real winner! We're gonna make'em race!" They don't even wait for Lupinepaw to choose before haring off into some nearby brush, rattling the branches and shaking the leaves most noisily before reappearing with a couple pathetic looking twigs in their grasp.

They are set down carefully on either side of a make-shift track (a patch of dirt that looked most like a path if you were bug-sized maybe) before the black and white (and now, also brown) SkyClanner chirps excitedly, hardly ever able to keep their mouth from moving. "I wonder if we could convince Glimmerpaw to play with us... or one of those river cats...? They all look so sad since coming to hang out with us for awhile... I know the rogues like kicked them out or something but it's not everyday we get to share tongues with cats from across the borders!"

❀‿ "Uhh-wow...! There's, uhm, so many of them..." Lupinepaw looked down at the selection of creepy-crawlies in front of her and suppressed a shiver at all the slime Edenpaw was pawing through. She had been happy to join the daylight apprentice with their game when she had been invited—she would be hard-pressed to deny any friendly invitation offered to her if she didn't have to—but Lupinepaw was coming to the realization that she may not have been the biggest fan of slugs. Even still, she put on her brave face and glanced around for a bug that she wouldn't mind having to pick up.

She watched them, searching for one that seemed particularly fast, but found that they all seemed to mill about at the brisk pace of a hairlength every few moments. Lupinepaw settled on a snail that appeared to have a particularly dry shell, picking it up gingerly by its shell and bringing it over to Edenpaw's makeshift race track. Lupinepaw nosed the snail over to settle between the twigs. "This is mine, their name is Shimmershell, I think," Lupinepaw purred. It was good to have a name to root for, right?

She frowned thoughtfully at her chatty companion's concern for the Riverclanners (and Glimmerpaw), the group seemed so weary and bummed out whenever she talked to one of them in camp, "That's a good idea, Edenpaw." Though, she wondered if they would like slug-racing or if they would think it was... tacky or something. Even so, it was nice to be included, so she stood tall and swiveled her head around to look around for any apprentices nearby, "Does anyone want to race some bugs with us?"

Slugs. The apprentices and kits of SkyClan truly have run out of hobbies and games, haven't they? Cocoshine frequently finds herself rather disgusted with the dealings of clan cats. There are parts of clan life she finds bring her a great sense of accomplishment- patroling, battling, and hunting (so long as she deems it to be "clean" food)- and there are others that she finds more... Interesting. Individuals like Edenpaw who sift through mud and peel out slugs are certainly amongst those.

Cocoshine considers her options for a long moment, but ultmately decides that it's probably more interesting to watch whatever Edenpaw and Lupinepaw are cooking up than it is to watch cats from different clans leer at each other. Besides, it may help her appear more personable to participate "I can race them with you both," Cocoshine volunteers as she wanders over to join them with a bright smile that does not reach her eyes. The oriental looks at the small, slimy creatures and feels her pelt prickle a bit with disgust. "Do you normally... Dig them out of the ground like that...? How do you handle them?"

"SPEECH"

Lupinepaw was nice... it was easy enough to tell when every smile was lined with tension. Edenpaw wouldn't be rude enough to point it out, especially since the two of them were doing what they wanted to do more... Offering a beaming grin back, they were happy to play the part of big dumb silly... Besides. Shimmershell was a fantastic name for a racing bug competition! "You've got such cool ideas Lupinepaw," they chirp, having never considered giving their racers some back story to spice it up a bit. Truly the kittens in their neighborhood would be delighted by the suggestion when they reported back later in the week.

Cocoshine soon joins them, at the behest of her cohort of course. Edenpaw is not nearly the popular one of the group, being a kitty-pet and all... Nodding with a dutiful confidence, they are not bothered in the slightest to explain how it works. "So you can just like.. dig'em... and yanno like... push'em around with your pads real gentle... or... or!" They hare off again to retrieve some loose stick from the nearby brush before dropping it hastily at the molly's feet. "Try getting it on that or like.. shove them with it if you don't like dirty paws."

Hopefully that was enough of a gimme to help her out with the 'gross factor' hurdle. Just bugs.. touching the same dirt they walk on but everyone always had their fur in knots over it.
