private WITHERED SPROUTS [scarletpaw]

Scarletpaw had followed Skyclaw; in the final battle, she'd drawn her claws against her kittypet-born Clanmates, and it was not until her uncle had fallen that she'd withdrawn them and submitted to her rightful leader. Raccoonstripe had watched the little tortoiseshell since her kithood, had listened to Moonwhisper's harsh teachings, and had thought nothing of it; after all, the mottle-faced she-cat had been his apprentice, once. She had learned much of what she knew from him.

It is his fault, truly, that Scarletpaw's paw prints are bloody. It is his duty now, bestowed by Flamewhisker, to rectify the mistakes he'd made moons ago.

"What has Badgerstripe taught you so far?" His voice is plaintive. He will not handle her delicately, even in her orphaned grief, even in her confusion. She will be a true warrior of ThunderClan; she will redeem herself, just as he will work to do.

Scarletpaw follows dutifully behind her brand new mentor, grateful that if it had to be anyone, it would be him. He is kin. He is safer than most the warriors who would look down on her now for choosing the wrong side. He is a lead warrior, someone to look up to. She glances at him now, searching for something in his expression - understanding, maybe, or judgment. She knows what she did. She knows what she has to make up for. Daily, the young she-cat feels the ache of her mistakes keenly, the way she'd lashed out at cats who shared her home. Cats who she should’ve always viewed as her clanmates. It makes her paws itch, her heart heavy with the shame she doesn't know how to shake.

But standing here, with Raccoonstripe, she feels something shift. It's not just about moving on anymore. It's about becoming better. Stronger. Worthy. And she’ll do it, she’ll prove herself to ThunderClan, and to him. Her blue-and-orange gaze is steady as it meets his dark brown.

Her ears flick back at his question, and she shifts her gaze, keeping her eyes forward, fixed on the forest ahead. His words feel heavy, weighed down by something unspoken but familiar - disappointment, perhaps.

"Badgerstripe taught me the basics," She answers carefully, keeping her voice steady. "How to stalk, how to hunt. Some fighting, too. She was - she's good at teaching.” Her claws flex into the earth beneath her, trying to shake off the doubt that lingers on her pelt. Though she’s glad she has her kin as her mentor, she still misses Badgerstripe.
