Oh, what a fantastic day to scare someone, don’t you think? It was where Fogbound was now despite the terror trembling through heavy muscle, itching to flee the cramped space that made his insides twist like play dough, skin prickling like a thousand fire ants nipping at plucked skin. He breathed, shaking himself out of his stupor to plaster on a grin, weakness overshadowed by bubbling confidence.

He’d gone out of his way, vanishing from camp without his apprentice in tow, having told the wiggle worm to do her daily duties as an apprentice as he set off. His body nestled within the abandoned badger set den with a rumbling hum that echoed, sounding like a low guttural growl to anyone passing by.

Fogbound shuffled forward, encompassed by the liquid shadow that hugged his well-fitted form, muscles coiling beneath smokey, albino fur when ears caught the sound of paws shuffling near. He grinned, triumph sparkling within a singular ruby optic—the only working on, as pitiful as that sounded, Fogbound had gradually gotten used to the loss of sight, although more like fuzzy shadows than clear nothingness.

With a surge of energy, Fogbound emerged from the badger set den with a rumbling snarl, popping out of nowhere with a loud cackle, voice booming with the rumbling sound. He’d certainly scare whoever stopped to peek at the abandoned set, curiosity, and Fogbound was never one not to grapple at the chance. Childish, but Fogbound enjoyed watching the light flash before their eyes in a hearty jump scare.

/ these prompts are way late, but thought it could still be fun to do ^^ but decided to go with this prompt but instead it's fog hiding in the badger set, scaring the crap out of whoever lol feel free to whack him !
thought speech

another day had brought the molly out of camp, hopeful that an early morning hunting patrol would bring a welcome blessing to the fresh-kill pile. what she hadn't expected, however, was to have her cheerful mood turned sour. when she initially approached the badger set, she thought nothing of it. it had been given the all clear days prior, leaving her little reason to consider that there was a need to be alert. after all, what cat would be on alert after finding out it wasn't a threat?

it happened quicker than she could initially react. fogbound came spitting out of the den, leading to quailbreeze attempting to hit the tom in a desperate attempt to get away from the "badger." upon realizing that it was not in fact a badger, but rather her clanmate, she would cast a cross expression in his direction. "bless starclan! what was that for?" the annoyed hiss would escape her jaws, anger flowing through her veins. the hair on her pelt still stood on end, muscles prepared to send her fleeing from the scene upon command.

Ever since their recovery, Rattleheart had made sure to give the old badger set a rather wide berth every time they were on a patrol or navigating the tunnels. It wasn't that they didn't want to check on it to make sure it remained safe and unbothered, but they really needed a bit of distance from it. More time without the sharp sting of yellowcough in their lungs before they returned to the place they had spent the most time suffering in. The place where they had seen Weaselclaw and Lambcurl succumb in the end to that very same suffering.

Ironic that cats still spread rumors about it being haunted by the badger that had once resided there, when it seemed far more likely to be haunted by the spirits of their former clanmates. At least, assuming they weren't up in Starclan as the tunneler desperately hoped they were.

There was a distant expression on their face as they emerged from one of the tunnels near the set, their stomach twisting as they realized just how close they were to it. They were about to turn tail and put some distance between themself and the set when they saw Quailbreeze nearby, and watched as the moor runner jumped in fear. Rattleheart's reaction was near immediate, claws out and face pulled into a grim snarl, ready to help Quailbreeze with whatever creature had taken up residence in the set... when they realized it was just Fogbound. Their face fell when they spotted him, morphing from something defensive into something much closer to exhausted annoyance. "What is it with all the cats trying to scare their clanmates lately? I swear, you're all worse than the kits pulling pranks on each other." They wanted to laugh, and enjoy the comedy of the situation. They truly did. But the stale scent of the badger set nearby set their every strand of fur on edge.

Observation is the first step of any experiment

Flaxshade followed in tow behind Rattleheart's hind toes, their tail swayed high before coming to stand by the other tunneler's side before looking to Fogbound and Quailbreeze laughter coming from his chest. "What a fright you gave there Fogbound! I wished I could've seen little Birdy's face though~" he hummed in amusement, soaking in the prank without sight of concern. The scent of badger quite faded so there was no need for concern.

"A little fun to ease the tension never harmed anyone," they explained to Rattleheart with a nod of their head before shaking some of the mud from his fur since they were above on the moors for the meantime with a startled Quailbreeze and a amused Fogbound, with a flick of his ear he settle down before pulling a swipe of his tongue over one of his paw. Poor little Birdy having the fright of her life, the little moor-runner is probably mad for sure for sure..

Gravelsnap hadn’t spent any time within the old badger set, having fallen ill before the yellowcough patients were moved to the sick-den. They had been given one of the last few doses of the cure, as well, and as such they had managed to avoid the walk of death to the old badger set. How many cats have died there, now? After the sickness of last winter—they think of the blizzard, of the battle against SkyClan, and shudder—and the following yellowcough outbreak, they cannot look at the badger set in the same way they had before. The place is tainted, now, with the stench of illness and the shadow of death.

Seeing someone burst forth from the den just to frighten a clanmate sets Gravelsnap scrambling back a few steps, eyes narrowing with irritation. It isn’t funny, what Fogbound did. "You shouldn’t do that," they snap at the tom, dark ears pinned back against their head. Fogbound should count himself lucky that he frightened Quailbreeze instead of them; if he had surprised Gravelsnap, he may have received much worse than whatever halfhearted injury the she-cat may have given him. The black-patched warrior glances from Rattleheart to Flaxshade, a frown settling on their face. The black and white tunneler is correct—behaving like kits and playing pranks doesn’t help WindClan at all.

Truthfully, periwinklebreeze is reluctant to stray to far from his friend - not something uncommon even before, but now the thought feels almost unbearable. The world outside the gorse walls has always been dangerous enough - and now a subtle sort of tension has been slipping in - nowhere is safe. But he keeps jaw shut tightly, adding after the group on soft paws, unwilling to point out such things. Instead, he focuses on the here and now - twitching in surprise as fogbound appears, though certainly less startled than some others. Were it two moons ago, maybe he'd find the fun n it - instead blue gaze stares hollowly at the larger tom, unenthused. " At l-least it w-wasn't something w-worse, " he says quietly - a pitiful attempt at optimism. At least it wasn't a fox, or a badger - just fogbound.
