♱—— the moon has long been hanging in the sky by the time she ventures from camp, feeling sunburn pressing along her neck, her shoulder, her foreleg from her excursion to see the new tunnel be planned. it had been worth it of course, but the pain needles her like tiny claws—nothing worth going to wolfsong for, but enough that she felt they needed to be rinsed. she's done it before—whether it's merely a trick of the mind or a genuine effect, she doesn't particularly care, but the warm water of the pool seems to suck the sun's heat from her flesh. it burns for some heartbeats, yes, but then it appears to leave entirely; consumed in thought, she's finally arrived at the sun-warmed pool. even in the darkness, the shallow water is warm to the touch of her inquiring pawpad.

it reaches slightly above her own paws, given her small frame, and she steps between some of the surrounding rushes to fully reach the pool. the chimera pads into the water, laying on her belly to splash water over the afflicted areas. as she's grown used to, it seems to scorch for the first few moments, causing the tunneler to let a loud hiss between her teeth.

Sedgepaw, with dark fur splattered in bright, snowy white, has never suffered from a sunburn before. That's a good thing, from what he understands—Whitepaw is someone else with a sensitivity to the sun, and she's mentioned before how painful it is. Red, itchy skin lit aflame beneath the Greenleaf sun. Sedge shudders at the thought. He also understands that the Sun-Warmed Pool, whether for physical ailment or some affliction of the soul, is good for soothing wounds.

He sits out there now. He's technically not supposed to be out of camp alone. He's still an apprentice despite being warrior aged, his ceremony looming heavy on the horizon, but it's not like anyone would be coming out here this late anyway.

Except for—"Cygnetstare!"

The bicolor warrior shoulders past him across the rapids, either not seeing him or not caring either way. Sedgepaw expects a scolding, or an ah-hah! at finally being caught sneaking out of camp. He's been coming out here for weeks now, watching the cycles of the moon in the pool and just...thinking. But Cygnetstare does none of those things. She just flops down in the water, and the hiss that squeezes past her teeth is enough to snap Sedge out of his deer in the headlights freeze, blinking through the dark as rivulets of water wet her stringy white fur.

Tentatively, Sedgepaw steps closer. He doesn't really care about getting into trouble. Cleaning out the elders den or replacing moss in the nursery isn't really that big of a deal, and within a day or two everyone will forget he did anything wrong in the first place. So he won't just ignore Cygnetstare's sharp sounds of pain, even though she's kind of creepy and weird and scares him just a bit.

"Um," he starts. The moonlight isn't bright enough to show the sweltering red beaming under Cygnet's coat, but Sedgepaw thinks he gets the picture anyway. The water is cool beneath his paws; soothing. "Do you want any help?"

SOOTSTAR
A few cats within WindClan, the ones with ivory fur and eyes pinker than a flower, complained of irritable skin. Sootstar does not come close to understanding why they seem to be so fussy in the sun in comparison to the others, but it meant more tunnelers for WindClan, and that was okay with Sootstar.

She hardly puts together that's why Cygnetstare is bathing herself like she is in the sun warmed pool. Sedgepaw has arrived to investigate as well; but it seems he has a better idea than her as to what's going on.

"Whats wrong?" Sootstar questions to the albino.

Hisses and the slight splashing of water draw the calico tunneler to the pool, a dark ear flicking as she takes in the sight of a pair of cats soaking in the water. It strikes her as a strange activity this late at night, but Scorchstreak herself is also out wandering the territory under the moonlight, so she cannot judge them too harshly. Striding closer, she hears Sedgepaw ask whether the warrior needs any help, and Sootstar seems to catch on to some kind of problem as well, asking the black and white tunneler what's wrong.

Scorchstreak had not considered that there may be some source of pain causing Cygnetstare to take a dip in the water. With a fiery glance to her friend, the ember-striped warrior asks, "Are you hurt?" There is concern in her voice, but her expression remains neutral, guarded. Mostly she is curious; what could Sedgepaw be offering his help for? She settles onto her stomach at the water's edge, paws dipping into the pool.

bunnypounce & 25 moons & female & she/her & windclan tunneler

There is nothing visibly wrong with cygnetstare it seems - at least, not anything out of the ordinary. And yet a pained hiss draws the woman's attention just as it does the others, wide eyes flashing in the moonlight like high-beams, wide and unblinking for a moment. A pause, head dipping to the side, before a tentative question slips past her lips, strangely nervous and gentle - tainted by the uncertainty of not-knowing. "... sun-bite?" she's never known another word for the ailment she suffers from, but she remembers a shared conversation beneath the moonlight, remembers the certainty of knowing that like coldpaw, cygnet had come out half-wrong, all pale fur and pink-eyed. Remembers how they both only seem to leave the depths when it is cold and dark - if they can help it. The woman does not touch the water herself - she cannot swim, and the thought of sinking down beneath the depths as she once nearly-had haunts her mind, regardless of how impossible it'd be in such a place. there are some things she's simply not willing to brave, to risk.

── .∘°°∘. ── Wolfsong has come to the pool ostensibly in search of blackberry leaves, given how well they grow in sunny places, but truthfully, as the kits continue to grow, he finds himself prone to aches that no amount of stretching can alleviate. He has been visiting the pool for the last few days, hoping to ease some of his muscles, shallow as the water is. It is never lacking in fellow clanmates, even under the stars, and he is not surprised to see others here today— though from what he observes, Cygnetstare's condition is a cause for concern.

Bunnypounce, a tunneler and fellow albino, mentions the sun as a culprit, and Wolfsong hums thoughtfully as he steps down to the water. I wonder whether dandelion may provide them some relief. It is used topically for bee stings, true, but if it aids in swelling, it could be useful here. "Come to the medicine den before you leave for the tunnels tomorrow, Cygnetstare," he says, sitting in the water with a quiet sigh.

WOLFSONG of WINDCLAN FORMER ROGUE TURNED MEDICINE CAT. 36 MOONS, HE/HIM, NPC X NPC. MATES WITH SUNSTRIDE (07/05/2023). BIOGRAPHY, PINTEREST, & PLAYLIST.
  • ★★★☆☆ WOUNDS: You're (mostly) in safe paws. You'll know if he's less experienced if he asks for your permission to try a treatment. No wound can scare him away from knowledge. — ★★★☆☆ INFECTION: He can prevent most infections. If you feel feverish, let him know— he'll hum thoughtfully over herbs and sniff your wound before saying, "With your blessing..."
  • ★☆☆☆☆ ACHES & PAINS: If you complain to him of pain, he'll ask where. If it's a headache, you'll likely feel a bit better. For anything else, "Try this, if you'd like, and tell me how you feel." — ★☆☆☆☆ BROKEN BONES: At best. he can ask you to remain lying down in the den. He may try to distract you with conversation while he considers what herb to feed you.
  • ★★★★★ TRAVELING HERBS: Going somewhere? No worries; Wolfsong knows just what you need to stay hale and healthy during your journey. The rest is up to you. — ☆☆☆☆☆ KITTING: He doesn't remember what it was like to be born. Coincidentally, that is the extent of his familiarity with kitting. At least he won't leave you without moral support.
  • ★☆☆☆☆ POISONS: It's best if you avoid eating anything unfamiliar to you— it's probably just as unfamiliar to Wolfsong. The best he can do is offer you yarrow and sit with you. — ★★☆☆☆ ILLNESS: If it's white or greencough, you'll likely recover. Otherwise, prepare for odd concoctions and the usual request that you consent to a little trial-and-error.
