Tensions had been boiling for some time now, that was no secret. Those loyal to Howlingstar, Flamewhisker, and the true Thunderclan were never going to sit back and allow Skyclaw's rats to bully them forever. After the horrifying display he'd made in front of the clan, killing their beloved leader and several innocent warriors, peace was not an option. And for Palefire, the betrayal ran deeper than that. She'd given him her heart, and he'd taken advantage of her trust. He'd allowed her to love him, all the while knowing that she was only a means to an end. She was never important to him, not really. How could she be, after everything he'd done? Was he even capable of feeling emotions like love?
It hadn't taken long for him to turn into the arms of the first she-cat who paid him attention, who agreed with him only to win his approval. Redflower had always annoyed her for a myriad of reasons, but seeing them walk into the camp together, tails twined, hearing her call herself his mate, it was like rubbing salt into an already festering wound. She knew that there was nothing good to be gained from antagonizing either of them, and Flamewhisker had ordered them all to stand down for now. But she couldn't help it. She couldn't keep watching that tortoiseshell snake strut around like her newfound position actually meant something. Like Skyclaw hadn't chosen her because she was his only option.
The lynx-point watched from a corner of the camp as Redflower paraded herself around again, barking orders and being her usual terrible self. Her claws flexed into the dirt as she struggled to keep herself put; but she couldn't manage the silence any longer. Palefire waited until she saw the other warrior start walking in her direction, and she quickly moved to intercept her, intentionally putting herself in the way and roughly shoving her shoulder against Redflower's. "Oops," she drawled coldly, though the smirk on her face belied her delight. "Sorry about that. I don't know how I didn't see you there, with how big your head has gotten lately." Was it her best line? No. But seeing the anger flare in the other molly's eyes, she knew her words had their intended effect.
