It wasn't fair, really. Hyacinthbreath was exiled while the one who may very well have started a war was free to stay. It frustrated him.
He knew what this was. Sootstar was just trying to get rid of them. The ones who don't bow and worship her and sing her praises. She wanted them replaced with the rogues she brought in.
She even said anyone else was free to go when she exiled Hyacinthbreath. He had been tempted, at the time. He strongly considered it. But he would not. He could not leave Dandelionwish with these heathens. He couldn't leave Echolight and her....Their kits.
He would stay. Even though he felt as though he were being tossed aside for something supposedly better, he would stay.
But he had to pull himself together. He had to. He needed to. He wasn't sure how, but he was going to grow a thicker spine and stand up for himself more.
He had to. For his family.
Curled in his small den under a lavender bush, he would let himself have one more good cry. He would weep into his paws for what felt like hours. He would squeeze every last tear out, as if he were shedding his weaknesses with them.
From now on, he would be taking himself down a new path. He had a family to protect now, and as he is, he couldn't do it.
For them, he would change.
