Ternstar 24 Moons Female She/Her Leader of Shadowclan
32977525_sxRjmoSM5Njm9KH.png

—— Ternstar has been watching their recovery for days now. Keen eyes sharp, as she she contemplates. Shadowclans council finds itself rather... lacking, and yet - eyes dart one last time to Mapletuft - things cannot go on like this. The she-cat is not ready - to face life, to face death, to face responsibility. And Ternstar cannot wait for her to grow. Cannot continue to risk the discontent of her clan, of whispered words of 'Why her?'

" Shadowclan - all cats old enough to hunt their own prey, gather for a clan meeting, " she calls out loudly as she reclaims her perch above them, staring down her muzzle with glacial eyes. " Mapletuft - you have done... well, as shadowclans deputy, " this much acknowledgement, she will allow - eyes flitting to the she-cat as she remembers their conversation. They both know what i coming if not the specifics of who will take her place. " But it is time to step back - let another take your place. " to do what Mapletuft cannot.

" Sharpshadow, " perhaps it is foolish, to let such a freshly recovered cat claim the role, but Ternstar trusts Marblepaws skills, trusts that the lead warrior was ready to return to duties. " Are you ready to take your place as Shadowclans deputy? " While she is not close with the prickly feline, she trusts that he will not make the same foolish mistakes as his mentor, or Ternstars predecessor.

[ ༻❄༺ ] In truth, Snowlark had found it odd that Starclan had decided to refuse the uprise of Mapletuft and in favor to Ternstar, he wondered what reason they had to willingly allow Shadowclan to break a newly made warrior code, and yet perhaps they had their reasonings that the boy himself would not fully understand himself.

When Ternstar call to announce the clan once more in their entirety, she was quick to demote Mapletuft as deputy, and yet with that swiftness came with the quick uprise of the recovering molly, Sharpshadow. Something that should not come to surprise of anyone, not even Snowlark himself if the older tom were to accept the proposal at least. Sharpshadow had been around for quite some time, even Snowlark acknowledged the work the other had put in.

A slight smile crossed his lips while he looked to Sharpshadow with expecting eyes, while he silently cheered on the other's name, later though the lead warrior will be sure to properly congratulate the newly made deputy so does he accept the offer Ternstar laid out.

Ternstar calls a meeting and Mapletuft is barely able to drag herself over, her mind numbed by grief. Loss, after loss, it was a surprise she hadn't been driven mad by it yet-

Ternstar demotes her. She says she has done well, but in Mapletufts not-so-emotionally-right state, she takes it and a personal attack, she sees a challenge, she sees a lie. Don't pretend to like me, sudden vitriol snarls venom in her mind. Despite their talk, Maple feels unsatisfied, feels unwanted, feels… Angry tears spring to her eyes as she meets Ternstars gaze. You've taken everything I had left, selfish anger, now. She had known this was coming, but perhaps it was the thought of knowing it had been verbalized out loud hurt even more. She clenches her teeth so hard a burst of pain ignites across her temples. So be it. She feels shame begin.

Disgraced. Was she nothing more than temporary to begin with, especially so in the Stars eyes? Her eyelid twitches. Is this their plan? First, she loses Mirestar, then shes downright embarrassed in front of everyone to be passed over, then she loses Thrasherthroat (the only who remained, her dear son Owlmoon, oh, how had they gone from such a large family in such a short time?) and now… She feels like screaming. She feels like cursing the cold twinkles above, cruelly watching her get kicked down again and again. There will be nothing left for her, when she dies, perhaps they'd even turn her away then- perhaps shes never destined to meet Acorntail in her final resting place, perhaps she'll never see Mirestar again, or her mate, or… She searches instinctively for Scalejaw, her eyes growing fully glossy, now, as if she were about to burst in to tears. She searches for the woman who had comforted her last time, who had sat there grieving just as she had.

Sharpshadow replaces her. With that, she turns on her paws and leaves without a word of congratulations, her posture rigid. She does not spare a glance back. She cannot afford to spare a glance back, lest her glass heart shatters before the whole clan.

Burdocktail wonders how long Ternstar would allow Mapletuft to remain on her council. If even the stars themselves did not want her as ShadowClan's leader—a decision from their ancestors that, for once, does not evoke ire from the tortoiseshell—what point is there in keeping her as deputy? For StarClan to deny her again when Ternstar inevitably succumbs to the curse?

The announcement is met with mild satisfaction from the warrior. Their ears pricked, they nod. Sharpshadow is a decent choice for deputy. Neurotic, maybe… but ShadowClan-born, loyal, and not much of a pain-in-the-arse to be in the vicinity of. And, most importantly, not them. Though some may find disappointment in not being appointed as deputy, Burdocktail finds relief. The curse is something they do not wish to trifle with; clearly, there is a target upon the backs of ShadowClan's leaders.

Mapletuft, expectedly, does not take this well. Burdocktail doesn't understand why. She should be grateful she had even a taste of glory, considering she was once ShadowClan's enemy. And now, maybe she will be spared from terrible fate. He watches her from the corner of his eye as she pads off. A drifting, bitter thought of, I wonder if she will follow in her children's pawsteps, crosses his mind before he dismisses it.

If they catch Sharpshadow's eye, they'll look at her with an expression somewhere between sympathetic and congratulatory.

Marblepaw, like her Clanmates, had wondered how long Ternstar intended to keep Mapletuft as her deputy. The fawn tabby knows little about the logistics of running the Clan, but in her opinion, the ginger warrior had done well enough when Mirestar had reigned. It had puzzled her as much as anyone when StarClan had sent her the omen suggesting Ternstar's ascension... but she is in no position to question StarClan's will, as she'd told her Clan. She does not converse with StarClan so much as she interprets their intent, and it had been clear as day to her that Mapletuft was not meant to lead ShadowClan.

It does not lessen the blow for Mapletuft as she is stripped of the rank Mirestar had given her. Marblepaw watches with round, sad eyes as she stands, scorned, before leaving camp with a swish of her tail. It can't be easy, even if it is StarClan's will.

The question was, then, who would follow in Ternstar's pawprints? Who would stand beside her as deputy of their Clan, as the warrior who would guide them all? Marblepaw sits with her ears straining. "Sharpshadow, are you ready to take your place as ShadowClan's deputy?"

Her eyes glow. She twists, searching for bladed black fur in the crowd. Sharpshadow had journeyed to the mountains; Sharpshadow had saved ShadowClan before, when Chilledstar had been leader. Marblepaw finds herself satisfied with the choice, though she holds her breath as the Clan fixes their gazes on her. Will she accept?
