*+:。.。 It's been a while since Asphodelpaw has gotten the chance to stretch his legs. After the rogue incident, sparring hadn't been an exercise he could stomach, but now? Now he was determined. He can't keep wallowing in his fears. He can't keep waiting like a kitten for arms to cradle away the nightmares when this was reality - this was the real world, and there would be no avoiding that. One day, he has to fight again, and next time he might not be saved if things get dicey.

Thus he was grateful when Carp-paw agreed to spar with him. Much like many of his other fellow apprentices, he didn't actually know the ebony-hued molly very well, but she seemed pleasant enough. Hard-working, not too talkative, though he remembered a time when her eyes shined a little brighter than they did now. Perhaps that's why he sought her out particularly. Her nightmares were just as strong as his - she could use a confidence booster as much as he did.

"Um, I guess...start whenever you're ready" Asphodelpaw says, unhappy with his awkwardness but hoping to hide it behind carefully slitted eyes and a crouched stance, tensed and ready for Carp-paw's first strike if he didn't end up being the first to exchange blows.

Carp-paw didn't know how to feel when Asphodelpaw initially sought her out. Sparring had been something she had avoided, unless it was Snakeblink. She could barely attempt even getting close to Beepaw or Cicadapaw anymore. Both of them did so well while Carp-paw was still tied up in the medicine den back in Shadowclan, a place she doesn't ever want to visit again. Alas, she knew she couldn't run from this forever. Being a warrior meant battling, right?

Carp-paw was now facing down Asphodelpaw, her vision neutral. She settled into a battle stance, a defensive position at first. Though, his statement made her believe she'd be going first, so Carp-paw inhaled deeply, then nodded. Rushing forward, she aimed to knock into Asphodelpaw and throw him backwards. A simple, easily-defensible move, but one that she knew would show off just how much the other apprentice knew.

  • CARP-PAW she/her, apprentice of riverclan, six moons
a shorthaired black smoke with blue eyes. her deep smoke colored mottled pelt making for good camouflage in the dark. white mottles her pelt here and there. born to riverclan, she lived peacefully until the rogue attack. sustaining a back injury, she's fallen quiet. loyal to her clan, wants only to make them stronger, but she's terrified of falling short again. the large scar across her back is obvious, and her once-curious nature is now timid.
peaceful and healing powerplay permitted / / underline and tag when attacking

It was good to see the cold had not dampened the enthusiasm of the youth, that they continued their efforts to improve despite the struggles and what was to come. Every day he finds himself staring out across the river and feeling a wave of dread rush over his entire body, steeling himself for the burden of what RiverClan will carry when the water freezes over fully and possibly floods again. His memories do him no mercy, a flood of teeth and claws and freezing water rising up like white frothing jaws to claim any cat who stumbled upon cracked ice; he prays that they will make it.
Smokestar ambles forward with a slow, deliberate grace, pausing as he regards the two apprentice and settling down to observe in silence. Asphodelpaw could use more confidence in himself and Carp-paw always crossed him as having a little too much to prove at times; it was a good match-up that would hopefully draw on one another's strengths and weaknesses and teach them a fine lesson. Crashingtide and Snakeblink were not cats who had ever fully trained an apprentice to warriorhood, he remembers the brown tabby's former apprentice Frogpaw and how he had been one of many to fade away in wake of the Yellowcough sickness that struck the entire clan with such force. Too many had been lost, but they'd survived. Time marched on, with or without them, and he wonders how things might be if Cicadastar still lead them proudly and not his own uncertain form.
He blinks, the apprentices finally move in to clash, Carp-paw attempting to use her brute strength to toss the other over. It was a daring ploy, but if you had the power to back it up then the surprise of it would catch most cats off guard. Smokestar's eye narrows in thought, waiting to see how Asphodelpaw handles it.
