pafp ˚˖𓍢ִ໋🦢˚ On her their lives depend | Conspiracy ₊˚⊹꒷

⚛︎₊˚‧ Perhaps it was cruel to approach such a sensitive soul with information so baseless and harrowing, especially after a wound so recently open and still agape for the entire world to behold, but selfishness was at times secondhand when paired with fear left to run rampant and without anything or anyone to console it except for the very individual who allowed it to breed and fester inside of them endlessly. They were all afraid, it was true, uncertainty commonplace in the hearts of all in the recent moons and surely for many more to come should the winds of change decide to pass over them as opposed to through them. This is why he felt it necessary to warn Swansong of what may await her in the near future- it came from a good place, the desire to bring to light to what could be eternal doom in hopes that she might be able to save herself, to prevent herself from falling victim to its ruthless clutches in the same manner Smogstar and Applejaw had, but was it truly helpful? Or did it simply add fuel to an already raging fire, sure to spread further and further until it consumed everything and everyone around it? Only time would tell, and time felt so sparse these days.

Amberhaze would approach her with haste, urgency flashing wildly inside of those burning ocher optics that were always in a state of perpetual panic, growing all the more intense the closer he came to her ethereal figure. He had rehearsed their conversation beforehand, for he was nothing if not overly prepared at all times. He would begin their conversation with a question, a simple one. "Uh- Swansong, are you- are you okay?" His opening before pushing for something much deeper, much more important. "I need to talk to you. I think- uh- I think there might be...s-something going on- like...with your family. S-Something dangerous. Wrong. Y-You might- uh...not be safe." His words came out in a flurry almost incomprehensible, but it was clear in the way he paused between sentences to take in shaking breaths that he was making some attempt to remain as calm as he could. "Do you really think your family dropping like...flies...could be a coincidence? A-And so close together? For no- no plausible reason?" He leaned in close to her then, his tone hushed and urgent as if he were worried his words may carry across the entire forest into the ears of the neighboring clans.

⋆⁺₊ ☾ ⁺₊⋆ Swansong, for all her delicacy, has never been the panicky sort. Morbid, certainly. Defeatist, often. But fear comes to her as a sleeping thing, kept hidden in her chest until the dim of night. It creeps up upon her in nightmares, rarely bleeding out into the real world. And yet - waking times are far too similar to dreaming, and she is beginning to feel that nightmarish undercurrent of dread. Everything is wrong, has been wrong for a long time. She clings to what guides her, and hopea that it is enough.

Amberhaze approaches her with something wild in his eyes, practically bursting with words soon-to-be spoken. His night-furred form bristles, and she meets him with tired eyes. Hardly reacts to his question, blinking sleepily. "I..." The words trail off. Is she okay? No, not truly. The calm that she feels is the eye of the storm; this is where she has made her home. She need not look inside herself, though. The panicky tom carries on before she even has a chance to respond. "Not... Safe...?" they murmur gently, mulling over the idea of it.

His words are sound. First Smogstar going missing (missing missing missing, not dead and not a turncoat - they have to believe this) and then Applejaw being killed. Amberhaze's breaths shake his chest, and their maw curves into a warriored frown. They nod, distantly. "It's... Possible, very possible... A danger to my family, oh stars above..." Who could be next? Ashenfall, Garlicheart? Will their younger siblings be taken before they even get the chance to properly know them?

They shut their eyes tightly as emotions threaten to whirl up, to burst past their placid contentedness.

Stars, take anyone but them, they pray silently.

Their eyes reopen after a moment, trained upon the ground. Their voice is toneless, empty. "You do not think... Hm. I... do not believe in coincidences. What could it be, then? Fate...?" Would the stars be so cruel, when they have chosen her as their vessel? Has she displeased them?

Her mind wanders to Ghostmask, to Granitepelt. Both were close to her sister, once. She thinks of Poppyglow's wounds, and her eyes flicker up to meet Amberhaze. She leans in closer, an unusual urgency creeping into her tone. "Or sabatoge...?" she murmurs breathlessly.

*+:。.。 Duckshimmer kept cats at a distance, including her own family at times, so there were very few the prim and proper duchess without wealth sought to protect aside from herself. Swansong had, somehow, become another exception. With delicate paws now kicking up dirt in her wake from the force of every furious step, the woman would approach the conversation without care for the social ramifications of eavesdropping and interruption. "Oh Amberhaze, my dear, I'm happy to break the alleged cycle by shoving my claws through your chin" Duckshimmer would purr, her sickly sweet guise failing under the hellfire of her periwinkle gaze.

Duckshimmer understands fear. She has grown quite intimate with it over her lifetime, being one of the smaller felines in a clan often surrounded by foes. To say she isn't afraid would be a dreadful lie, although her refusal to drop her careful routine of normalcy may belie her anxiety. Smogmaw's disappearance, Applejaw's murder...Duckshimmer might've joined in on the conspiracy, begging Starlingheart for answers perhaps suspicious of Starclan sending an omen pertaining to a certain witch's daughter in the medicine den had it not been for one fact often forgotten by the superstitiously inclined...
Shadowclan simply had horrendous luck. Living in a marshland fraught with diseases and hidden predators, Shadowclan had always had a bad habit of losing members left and right. It was mere coincidence that Swansong's family joined the unlucky many. Bordering on inevitable.

Duckshimmer aims to lay her tail over Swansong's shoulder's, detesting the way Shadowclan's daughter has invited the wild gleam of Amberhaze's into her eye. Swiftly resuming her glare, Duckshimmer raises her chin and spits, "How deplorable of you, Amberhaze, to turn grief into gossip" funny, coming from Duckshimmer, "What happened to Applejaw and Smogstar was a tragedy - nothing more, nothing less. It would do you well to keep your pretty teeth shut next time you feel the need to voice your little concerns"

To Swansong, Duckshimmer would mew gently, "Do not lend your lovely ears to a preaching of fear, my dear. "

What has he stumbled upon...? Two weirdos, mumbling to themselves... Er, chattering like birds' more like. Maybe squawking on Amberhaze's behalf. And Duckshimmer has come to lob a stone in their direction— though it seems to have only clocked Amberhaze in the head, Swansong being gracefully spared... Sharpshadow's dull gaze flickers between the three of them. Grief into gossip... maybe. Sharpshadow could hate Amberhaze for a good view reasons. being annoying, mostly, but being malicious...? She doesn't think so.

If there was any clan to cultivate paranoia like this, it was ShadowClan... Weren't the shadows themselves practically the birthplace of fear? Things that you can't see- a place where anything can lurk... Their own territory doesn't feel like home to her, as desperately is she'd like that to be the case. The line between nonsense and fear is thin here, toed near-constantly. Attacks out of nowhere, betrayal from under their nose... her chest feels tight all of a sudden, and she feels that she's accidentally inserted herself into... this. Merely by standing here. by being here.

...Duckshimmer is almost absolutely right, isn't she? How selfish would it be to fixate so closesly on only the losses of your own kin? The others are countless. Countless.

" Unlucky, " he says at last, and its barely a whisper. " Its... It's cruel. " It's the truth. Sharpshadow does not dare cry— He can't remember the last time he has... To break that streak of numbness, of frustration channeled into her claws, why would she break it now, for Smogstar of all cats? For Applejaw? There's this... this pressure in her skull. But it's nothing. it's nothing at all. " Cruel, but not exclusive, " she says. " You just have more family to kill off than most. "

He winces. That... That was terrible to say, wasn't it? Sharpshadow ducks his head, ears pinned to his skull. " Sorry. "
