RIVERKIT
HE/THEY RIVERCLAN KIT

They had been introduced to water not long ago, now, and Riverkit spends every waking moment thinking of it. Of the river, his namesake; of the way he instinctively relaxed as the water lapped onto his frame. But sunlight made him miserable, as did the hustle and bustle of camp, worsening his already awful migraine. So they wait until the sun sets and the stars shine above, until their clanmates are settling in for the night — only the crickets and the stream can be heard ( if he ignores the snores of the nursery residents, that is ).

His brothers are already sleeping, shuffling close to each other as much as they kick one another. The fevercoated kitten prods at his mother until she stirs in their nest ( he has not awakened her - her breathing told as much ). "Mother." He murmurs, pawing at her sides. "I want to swim." Riverkit speaks softly, glancing over at siblings. Pebbletail is here tonight, as he usually always is; they would not be unattended. And, frankly, he'd rather spend some time with Splashdance alone, just the two of them.

Splashdance has become a regrettably light sleeper in recent moons. She blames motherhood, the hounds of nothingness threatening her and her children's safety every night. Pebbletail is oft by her side when the moon rises, however, insistent to quiet her loud mind with just his presence. It works more than she had anticipated it would... She undeniably loves him, and is reminded of such every day.

The soft utterance of her newest name - "Mother." - opens river blues. The gentle pressing of paws lifts her head from the cradle of their nest. His request is simple, but not yielded to immediately. The molly looks over the boy's brothers, first, then his father. A piece of her wants to lure Riverkit back to sleep - but she obeys him, just this once. She misses trawling through the night, anyways.

"Alright, little stone," she murmurs, standing slowly as to not wake the others. "But you stay close. The waters are darker at night - it's more difficult to find you if you're..." she swallows the thickness in her throat and leans forward to nudge him with her nose, "Just stay close, please..." Hopefully that will not be something she explains so soon.

RIVERKIT
HE/THEY RIVERCLAN KIT

Little stone she calls him. Tells him to stay close, not that he was planning to go far anyway. He had his mother all to himself tonight, without her having to divide attention between four kits. A feathery tail whisks as he rises from the nest and trails after her, rushing his steps to match her pace until he can get in front of her. The breeze is cold, as it always is at this hour.

Moonlight is much better than sunlight. Bright, but not as glaring; his eyes don't squint as much, migraines don't pulse in protest. It's nice, it's relaxing.

Riverkit approaches the riverbank excitedly, his eyes shining as he pads into the water. This is much better than how he felt on their first introduction to the stream ( maybe because his head doesn't hurt, or his lungs aren't being weird ). The tomkit hums pleasantly, half-lidded mismatched eyes watching his mother. "This is nice." He murmurs, briefly looking at his reflection before causing ripples in the water with his paws. "Aren't you gonna come?" Riverkit didn't want Splashdance to just sit there and watch. . . he wanted her to be in the stream with him, swim with him.
