THERE'S A PLACE OFF OCEAN AVENUE ✧ broken bridge

It's been a full day now since Iciclefang and her traveling companions have left the forest territories, and from what she can see, relations between the cats have improved minimally or not at all. There is stilted conversation still, forced friendliness between the ThunderClanners and the other Clans, but many still wear sneers on their muzzles; many's pelts still bristle with hostility when a cat perceived to be a rival brushes up against them on accident. The tortoiseshell herself has not made any efforts to make friends where she does not already have them… why should she?

The cats will be in the mountains and heading back before they know it. Making friendships we'll have to break off is a waste of time, she and no doubt multitudes of other feline travelers think. Her loyalty is to her Clan and her family, above all else. She will not forget that in a hurry.

Highstones is well-behind them, and the sun creeps higher in the sky until it reaches it's throne, pouring hot and golden onto a lush wooded area. Prey can be heard scuttling through the brush, but above that, Iciclefang hears a familiar rush. "A river," she breathes to whoever is closest. They'd come across a few creekbeds, some puddles, but this is the first true river she's seen since leaving her own territory.

She crests a hill, looking in awe at the glint of afternoon sunlight gilding the rapid-laced surface. The river is wide, too wide for a cat not RiverClan to swim across. She narrows her eyes, scanning the vicinity for some way for the other Clan cats to cross… she sees nothing, initially, until she nears the water's edge. On the opposite bank, many foxlengths ahead, is the remains of a strange-looking Twoleg Bridge. The one in the forest is made of stone and sturdy, formidable, but this one is soaked and drifting upon the river's surface. It's wooden, the slate rippling with movement as it's tugged with the water's current.

"The bridge is broken," she reports to the cats scrambling toward the riverbank beside her. "There's no way to cross, unless…" Her snow-pale gaze flicks from the bridge to where her paws knead muddy red earth.

  • REMEMBER: this is RiverClan's event! The cats who will be ensuring the Clans get across are @hazecloud @Lakemoon . @iciclefang @Mosspaw @FERNPAW
if your non-RiverClan cat falls in, ensure you have a plan in place for them to be saved... swimming the river will not be possible for any non-RiverClanners!

LAKEMOON — me and the devil, walking side by side.
The tension between the five clans was heavy, flickering in side-long glances and guarded demeanors. Besides the already pre-established friendships, were a few that tried to chat, efforts admirable to put the group more at ease.
Lakemoon sticks close to Iciclefang and Fernpaw, knowing her aunt and cousin are not too far behind, but whereas Little Wolf simply felt moreso like a stranger nowadays, Moonwhisper actually was, having been estranged before she was even born.
They climb over a hill, and while the view is certainly breathtaking, the calicos words from in front of her cause the riverclanners crystal gaze to cloud with concern.
Lakemoons leans, taking the predicament ahead of them in full.
"Riverclan would be able to cross." She observes, gaze casting over her shoulder to the land-accustomed forest cats.
"Who are our strongest swimmers?" She muses aloud, pupils shifting to and fro in deep thought as she picks up Iciclefang's unfinished sentence.
Looking back to the other, Lakemoons brow would crease in a silent question.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Though Mouseflight did not care much for many of the other cats that were here with him on this journey, in all reality he knew that it was no different than if he had been at home. There were cats there that he disliked and didn't enjoy talking to - luckily many of them were not on the journey now - so other than the SkyClanners that had volunteered to journey with them Mouseflight had kept his obvious distrust and disgust to himself. Things would soon change however, as they neared the river, and for a moment the warrior was tempted to step into the water to see if he could cross, soon stopping himself as he realized just how fast the water was moving and he knew that even if he liked water he wouldn't be able to cross without help - and he was not about to ask the fish-breath RiverClanners for help swimming of all things.

He wasn't opposed to getting wet - they had the sun warmed pool in WindClan that he enjoyed after all - but he didn't really know how to swim, and he wasn't about to try to learn now. So watching as Iciclefang moved forward he followed quietly with the rest of the group until they came across the bridge, though any hope he had of being able to cross using it was shattered when he realized it was broken and floating on the water.

Highstones was long behind them. She had never trekked this far before...stars, she hadn't even seen the Highstones before. The furthest she had been this way had been Fourtrees. In her time as a loner, she had lived past the border that the boars had entered Thunderclan's territory from. If they were traveling that way, she would probably be more of use, but alike everyone else, this was completely new territory for her. She felt slightly comforted by the lush trees that they were currently traveling through. The foliage wasn't as thick as their's back home, but it was still something. She wasn't sure how Windclan felt at home out in the open...she felt too exposed without anything around her.

As the group travels over the top of the hill, her eyes immediately rest upon the river that was intercepting their path. Her stomach twists, and she feels herself stiffen. "Of course there is a river." she hisses to herself, her tail flicking irritatedly. Taking in a deep breath, she slowly approaches the roaring pit of doom. I can't...I can't.. She remains well away from the edge, her paws kneading the shore anxiously.

Instinctively she looks for her daughter, "Stormpaw...stay close to me." She would not risk her daughter falling in...If she did, she didn't trust the Riverclanners to rescue her. Not after what Snakeblink had pulled in the battle over Sunningrocks.

✿—— the day since they left the gathering behind (stars above, has it only been a day?) has been ... fraught. she's grown uncomfortably familiar with the way everyone's eyes fly towards her collar every time she speaks, with the coldly turned eyes and dismissive voices of the other clans. bobbie does her best to make awkward small talk or pitch in where she can, but she has never felt more out of place—if she felt like an outsider when thistleback returned or when badgermoon arrived on the border, it's nothing in comparison to the oppressive feeling of not-belonging she feels now. even those who are enemies know each other, many seem to be old acquaintances from the colonies before the clans, and a sneer is at least a recognition. she feels small and slightly alone, knowing nobody outside of her own clan and already having been dealt a snappish remark from a calico windclanner.

her clan and her family will always come first, but she does not understand the refusal to be even cordial from some cats. yes, they are from different clans, but this journey will require every paw of help, be it a collar-wearing skyclanner like herself or the fiercest windclanner—so can't they at least be friendly? apparently not, she thinks with a hint of bitterness as the golden sun beats down on her maned shoulders.

she's yanked from her thoughts when the group stalls, bracing herself so as not to bump into anyone. green eyes squint at the sun glittering off the river, discomfort overcoming her at the muddy earth squishing under calloused pawpads and the empty expanse of water before them. she does not know how to swim and she certainly does not want to learn now, and the tabby backs half a step away from the water lapping at the mucky ground. the standoffish tortie riverclanner (stars, she needs to start learning names) reports that there's no way to cross it, and bobbie's gaze follows her icy one to the broken and drifting bridge. a grey-furred riverclanner agrees, observing that riverclan could cross it as she looks to the tortie.

"h-how will the rest of us cross?" she murmurs, half to herself, though she doesn't presume to intrude on the riverclanners' conversation. a mottled windclan apprentice and ginger-tabby thunderclanner seem to agree, the latter beckoning a torbie apprentice to herself. bobbie shuffles her paws anxiously, disquieted by the whole thing. it had only been a day, and already they were stopped.

The sound of rushing water is unwelcome to her ears, evident in how they flick backwards with distaste. Remaining close to her clanmates, the bicolor tabby slips forward on daring paws to peer down the bank at the broken bridge. Her snout scrunches up, her claws sinking into the ground to anchor herself there lest she falls forward. "You can't be serious…ThunderClanners don't swim," She shoots back at the other blue tabby.

"There's gotta be another way to cross. Right?" She swings her head around to look at Flamewhisker and Nightbird expectantly, inwardly begging them to confirm her words. There is no way she's going to risk drowning by stepping paw in the river. Surely if they just keep going upriver they'll find another bridge, or stepping stones, or something!
I WANNA TASTE LOVE AND PAIN ☁︎

Similar to Iciclefang, Slate saw no point in mingling and becoming friendly with the other cats on this journey. He was here to do one thing and one thing only — find a cure. Sure, it would be essential to communicate with the others, but they would all see battle with one another again someday. WindClan especially, as they seemed to be unable to quit stepping on toes and causing fights.

The Maine Coon lifts his head high, peering downstream though to no avail — the bridge was the only means of crossing, at least within this vicinity. "Some of us should scout out down the river and see if there's a way around." The SkyClanner suggests with a swish of his downy tail. While the RiverClanners would be fine going across, this posed a problem for the rest of the party. "There's gotta be another way."

Water. Oh, how he detested water. His ears flattened as they crested the hill. His paws weren't weary yet, but he didn't think that he could survive a river. Forget this. His face twisted with a look of disdain, heart thundering in his chest as he came to a still. His pelt itched, and felt far too warm for his liking- considering he was never warm. He breathed out of his nose, trying to settle himself long enough to look for a solution.

Flamewhisker's words came at an opportune time, and off his brain went again. He looked towards the Thunderclan lead. "A river." He stated dully, his green eyes shifting back towards the water. Stormywing's words crossed over his skin like beetles that bit, and he ignored the urge to start pacing. "I sure hope so, Stormywing." He still wasn't over that grudge he was holding against Stormywing for pushing him away from Leopard, but now was no time for unpleasantries.

Hailstorm recalls the one time that he and his clanmates had been hanging out within the warriors den on a hot day where the sun had been beating down on them and caused them to take refuge. He remembers how he had joked about learning how to swim and be able to let his fur dip into pools of water like the river but now that he's faced with this obstacle, he can't help but frown to himself noticing how Iciclefang was looking ahead and the only way for a strong believers of keeping their paws dry was drifting loosely on the river. Well, it seems like a bad time to ask for swimming lessons. He thinks to himself in half amusement unable to help but glance over at Nightbird briefly and moving along with the rest of his group before finding a spot near his friend, Batwing, and greets him with a gentle bump of the shoulder.

His eyes focus on the bridge once more and then away as he listens to what Slate said about looking for a way around, they could but they'd waste their day a lot quicker by doing so though there was a chance of finding a smaller area where they could potentially jump and cross but it would still prove dangerous if not everyone could make the jump and fall into the river... Become lost to them. The thought makes the mountain of pale fur shudder and he decides to remain quiet wondering if the Riverclanners have any ideas or if they'd leave them all behind to continue their journey to Highstones, he silently hopes not and has faith in them.

⭒✧ Despite a sociable start, talking with river and shadowclanners, Chalk had quieted down in the later half of the sun's cycle. It was clear many of the cats on the journey had no interest in sharing stories or straying from their own little clusters. He understood, now finding solace amongst the others from Skyclan. The tension wore thin in odd places, snapped remarks and flinty looks chipped into the group where he didn't expect. It was tiring.

The soft static of running water pulled him from his musing, and a check of the air revealed the soft scent of minerals- a sure sign of a water source. Soon enough a slick ribbon cuts their path, heaving beneath the sun's languid rays. As welcome of a change in pace as the waterway was, breaking the monotony of grassy knolls and pockets of forest, the width certainly seemed to pose a problem. Chalk bent a snowy ear at the billow of water, uncertainty stilting his step.

Deferring immediately to the Riverclanners in the group, he looked to Iciclefang and another slate-furred molly as they discussed. Nearby, Bobbie wondered aloud at their predicament and he found himself picking up the line of inquiry in his own thoughts. This couldn't be journey-stopping- as uncertain of Starclan as he was all evidence suggested the spirits knew how to direct the clans. They had been instrumental in warning Skyclan of the Shelter, after all. But the depth and length… His eyes traced the waterline.

More voices went up, thunderclanners expressing their displeasure. Then, Slate with the reasonable suggestion of going further downstream. "That could work, though we risk wandering off course." Pensive, the daylight warrior continued to listen in on the other cat's suggestions.

As ever, Fernpaw stuck close to his sister. He was not quite as frosty as she, the calico seemingly unwilling to make any more friends- it was distracting to their purpose, he could see why. Still, on the surface the fiery tom was still nice, as cheery as he'd always been, forging forward with his purpose and allowing nothing to slow him down. The soft rush of the water, its whispering call, did not fly over Fernpaw's head quite as easily as anything else might have; his ears pricked up in a show of attentiveness, eagerness a silver thread pulling him toward the sun-dappled surface.

His excitement was soon tempered by the realisation that the other Clans were not as fond of swimming as the Riverclanners were. Too distracted with the dance of light on the ripples, Fernpaw did not notice the snapped Twoleg bridge until Iciclefang pointed it out, an aquamarine eye settling upon it thoughtfully. Unless. There was an unless, and- all the other Clan cats had seemingly given up on getting across already. A large SkyClan tom proposed walking around it- if there even was a way around. "We can't slow down," Fernpaw urged the hulking tom, head angled rather sharply up as he addressed him.

The ginger tom did not waste a moment before splashing into the river, the water splitting around him. It was the first true comfort he had felt in what had to be a few days- swimming had always been second nature, easy as breathing. For those who toed the shore, it wouldn't be quite so easy- but having spotted the Twoleg bridge, and the way Iciclefang's gaze had tracked a path to where she stood on the ruddy earth... it was simple, really. All of the Riverclanners could swim, strong swimmers, as Lakemoon had said. "We'll make a path," Fernpaw chimed, flicking his head toward the broken bridge as he swam a small figure-eight. With all of the Riverclanners working together, it couldn't be impossible.

Scorchstreak has spent the past few days waiting for the other shoe to drop. With so many enemies gathered in one place, it seems impossible that no one has any plans to attack her or her clanmates. Perhaps they are being lulled into a false sense of security—but even if that is the goal, she will not fall for it. The calico hasn't slept well in days, too concerned with keeping watch over the younger WindClanners.

The obstacle that is a river brings their traveling group to a halt, and blazing eyes shift to the water, disdain coloring the tunneler's expression for a moment. Scorchstreak isn't concerned for her own safety in the water, but the other WindClanners are young, inexperienced. Her own kits certainly haven't learned to swim. And she doesn't trust the faster RiverClan cats not to do something awful to her or to the rest of the WindClan cats. The river-dwellers could easily drag any one of them below the water's surface, just as they had dragged Juniperfrost across the border so long ago—and just as they had dragged Cottonpaw across more recently. All it would take is a slip, an easy "I was trying to help," and yet another clanmate could be lost forever.

Still, they need to cross this river. Their clanmates depend on them, and they don't have the time to spare for this sort of derailment. Impatiently she flicks an ear, the only outward signal of her frustration. "Mouseflight, stay back," she warns the young tom, but he doesn't seem keen on stepping closer to the water, anyway. One of the RiverClan warriors whose name she can't recall suggests that they make a path, and golden eyes settle on the orange tabby tom. His suggestion isn't a poor one, but Scorchstreak wonders how he plans on creating them a path from the remains of the bridge.

Day one of their journey has not been as physically taxing for Little Wolf as it is emotionally. It is a difficult feat to walk away from one's loved ones, Ones friends and family, but it is what is needed. The only motivation she needs is the thought of Duskpaw lying sick in her brothers den, every day getting closer and closer to death. They cannot afford to waste a second if there is any hope of getting back in time to save those who were ill.

When they come to the river, Little Wolf feels a brief flash of dismay, followed immediately by impatience. "Hes right. Going around will take too long, we don't have time. There must be another way" the red tabby RiverClanner was right, they would find another path, they had to. Her green eyes immediately start scanning for something, anything that may help - but she is no RiverClanner and this is not even close to anything she knows. She could cry out in frustration but instead she digs her claws into the wet earth and curses softly through her teeth.

The sound of water only brings back visions of fear and death - the fact that riverclan i here doesn't help. He swallows heavily, pelt twitching and bristling as he sticks tight to the rest of his clan. This is not a battle, he remains himself - they are on a journey, ad there is no brown furred tom trying to kill him. The water is - is the only thing the same. He tries to convince himself, really, but its still hard to breath. "M-make a path?" he echoes quietly, falling somewhere beside scorchstreak as he watches, just as confused - how does one even do such a thing?

Mosspaw stuck close to the rest of the Riverclanners, quiet and resolute as she padded along. Her gaze was on the ground. Even after a full day, she had had few conversations with the cats from other clans. Why would she? They were here on a mission, not to make idle chit-chat. Besides, if she wanted someone to talk to she'd simply converse with her clanmates.

A river.

She heard Iciclefang whisper the words, and looked to find a sight that was all to familiar to her. A river just like home. A pang of sudden homesickness hit her and she tried to push it down. She had only been gone a day, she couldn't be homesick already.

Iciclefang added that the bridge was out and she blinked. She didn't see why that would be an issue. "I'm a strong swimmer." She chimed in when Lakemoon asked who their strongest swimmers were, though she didn't see why it was relevant. Nearly any Riverclanner that wasn't a drypaw could make this crossing.

Then she remembered the other clans.

Perhaps it would be best to simply leave them behind, she thought to herself as she watched them staring down warily at the water. None of them seemed able or willing to make the crossing. One even suggested they try to go all the way around, and she nodded her assent when Fernpaw told him that would take too long. "There are cats back home who would not survive such a delay." She criticized sharply. Their mission was too important to suffer any setbacks. If the other clans wanted to take the long way, that was fine with her, but she was going to make sure Aspenhaze got the lungwort they needed as soon as possible.

Then Fernpaw jumped straight into the river, drawing her attention to him. He followed up on Iciclefang's idea, declaring firmly that they would make a path for the other clans. Her eyes shone in appreciation of his determination. Cicadastar's faith in him had not been misplaced. "I think he is right." She agreed, looking to the Riverclan warriors. "We could swim over there and pull the bridge back, letting the other clans cross." As she spoke the words, her faith in the plan grew. Her clanmates were strong enough swimmers to make this work. Besides, they had little to lose from trying, if it didn't work they could just leave the other clans behind as she had originally planned. Though she didn't add that part aloud.

The older warrior remained silent, idle chatter buzzing in the back of his mind, instead letting his thoughts swirl, keeping his gaze forward while letting tired paws guide him. He grunted, ignoring the subtle twinge of old injuries flaring, coiled muscles twitching, tired, but strong. It was a familiar sensation, one he welcomed to ease the ache of his heart.

He couldn't help but think of his children, tucked away in SkyClan camp without him. He trusted them, but to be far away with no hope of returning left a bitter taste in his mouth. He had done this knowing that this is where he had to be, if not to redeem himself, but to punish himself for things that weighed heavily on his shoulders.

Duskpool slowed to a halt, staring at the rumbling river with prickling unease, muzzle crinkling. Fuck me. He blinked languidly, wooly tail flickering in distaste. He would be out of his element, turning to watch the RiverClanners, humming thoughtfully.

Moons ago, the obsidian-furred warrior had faced something similar, although not as big as this, rescuing one of his kids from drowning. He was no swimmer, bulky as he was with thick fur nearly send him to an early grave if it wasn't for his will to get his idiotic kid out of harm.

He pivoted his helm, staring at the odd-looking upwalker bridge floating above the surface. Shit. A molten orb narrowed, listening to the chatter of who was the strongest, making him wonder for a second if RiverClan planned to leave the rest of them behind. He might have made a silent promise to make sure they returned, even if he ended up dyin' along the way. Duskpool didn't like the idea of families ripping apart, but he sure as hell wasn't sure what they'd return to.

And so, Duskpool kept to himself, merely watching the cats ahead with coiled muscle, attentive despite the tiredness that gnawed on marred bones. That didn't mean he didn't side-eye the other clans, wondering when things would drop, but they couldn't afford that, not when the entire five clans counted on them to return. He scowled, padding forward to stand beside @bobbie, resting a wooly tail on her shoulders in a comforting gesture. "We'll get across, kiddo." He rumbled.

He turned a molten orb on Stormywing, muzzle crinkling. Then ya shouldn't have joined. A torn ear flickered, letting his gaze land on Slate and Chalk, shaking his head, until two RiverClan apprentices chimed in. Better than havin' no plan. He thought with a rumbling hum, looking to Iciclefang through his peripheral.

With Highstones behind them to not even be a dot over the horizon it's become clear as ever just how far from home they were. Not even the faintest scent of the forest lingered here aside from what mingled off the other Clan's pelts. Would they lose the familiar scent of home the further they went? Would she still be able to recognize her companions by the river-misted coats, or would they all become a mixture of the path they were taking? The thought led her to thinking of how long they could might take to reach the mountains. She hoped by the time she returned home her family would still recognize they. That they wouldn't shy away from the strange scents she would return with.

Ears perk up, as if the stars had heard her thoughts they had granted her a touch of her home. Iciclefang's breathy recognition brought a smile across her maw and followed her up the rise of the hill. "Just as beautiful out here, too." Like Mosspaw she felt a pang of homesickness, wishing she was back home.

Back home, in the warm glow of her older sister's laughter. In the cheerful embrace of her friends and the kittens she helped watch over. Back home in the peaceful quiet beside Ravensong as they organized herbs and fetched moss.

Back home in the scornful eye of two cats she had held close. Cats that had entered her heart on kind, gentle paws, only to leave with claws unsheathed and teeth bared.

Hazecloud's gaze grew distant, beyond the river before them.

Fernpaw rang her back to the moment, one by one the others realizing they could not swim as her Clan could. Some of her Clanmates take smug pride that they would not suffer from the water, but the apprentice was right.

"Yes, we'll make a path." Her voice was quite until she turned to face the others gathered. "RiverClan will lead the path across and make it safe." She nodded for Mosspaw and the other's to go forward, the misty molly catching up to Fernpaw hastily. "Let's work together to get everyone across, watch out for anyone that falls in."

Greeneyes had crossed a river before. Once, when he was smaller, when leaf-bare's frost had frozen watery trenches into something more solid to break his fall, if he were to slip off the stepping stones he'd so desperately leaped over. The tom highly doubts his little experience will help with the situation now - another river to cross, one rushing and rapid, a broken means of crossing hung over it.

"I don't suppose you're about to give us all impromptu swimming lessons, huh?" he asks of the RiverClanners in jest, trying to ease the anxious air he feels around him. He'd joked about it before, back at home with Twitchbolt and Howlfire - a means to cool off in SkyClan's hottest days - but, as he stands before the river, watches as water rushes past… he isn't sure if he'd actually want that. If there could only be a way to cross without having to deal with water-lodged depths.

His gaze shifts from RiverClanner to RiverClanner, as they move towards the water, as they speak of possible solutions. A path, Fernpaw - he thinks the orange tom's name is, a more familiar face to him than most of the RiverClanners here - says. A way to pull the bridge back, a younger face adds. One of their warriors agrees to the plan they concoct and starts giving orders.

"Will that… Will that actually work?" he finds himself asking, uncertainty in his voice.

LAKEMOON — me and the devil, walking side by side.
No sooner has the question left her maw do several voices follow, Thunderclanners protesting, some planning, Mosspaw stepping up. Lakemoon glances towards the apprentice, her courage admirable.
They'll make a path, pull the bridge back so the others can get across.
Lakemoons sharp optics flicker up and down the river, ear twitching in thought.
"It'll have to." Is her blunt response towards Greeneyes.
"How many cats will it take to keep that bridge steady enough?" She wonders out loud, head turning to the cats around her. "A few of us can hold the bridge while the others accompany the dry paws across?" She prompts with a tilt of her head.
It was a risky plan, but did they truly have any better options? Other than carrying them one by one across the river, but that just seemed more perilous.

Sticking close to the other WindClanners, Luckypaw still can't help but feel...exposed, out here. This is the longest he's spent out in the open since he was a kit, and already he was sorely missing the dark confines of the tunnels, where there wasn't nearly so much open space, even in spite of all the strange trees surrounding them. It's easier to see off into the distance, sure, but it also feels as though there are too many openings, too many angles at which he must defend, and already he grows tired of staying on high alert every time an unfamiliar pelt slips into his field of view. And it's only just been a day - who knows how long this journey will last for? The mountains still loom tall as ever in the distance, and their imposing forms don't seem to be getting all that closer. What if this was just a fool's journey, and they wouldn't ever even reach those distant peaks in the first place? It seems impossible from here, and though he's no stranger to pessimistic, anxious thoughts, this seems more reasonable to worry over than most other things. Still, he keeps quiet and to himself, left only to wonder whether anybody else is thinking the same as they all begin to crest over a hill, with a new, yet still strange, sight to greet them. A river, one of the other cats had said, and even as some of his fellow journey members continue forward to investigate he hangs back for a moment, green gaze following their newest obstacle.

It was unlike any sort of water he'd ever seen - not that he'd seen a lot of water in the first place though - and even unfamiliar, the RiverClan cats immediately look much more at home than he'd ever seen them. Would he feel like that if they were to uncover some sort of tunnel system out here, he wonders? Maybe, though, he'd probably be a lot more cautious, since there would surely be something dangerous lurking in there. What dangers might await them just below the surface, he wonders? Other than the river water itself, of course, as it seems to be coursing awfully fast. The intrigue of the moment quickly begins to fade as the others begin to discuss amongst themselves, trying to figure out what to do. Clearly, they can't continue ahead - they'd be swept away, surely, all but the RiverClanners, and the others seem to share a similar mindset, with nobody trying to step forward to test the way. Going around is suggested, and inwardly he agrees with the idea, but others still shoot that one down, too, citing that it would take too long, or they might get lost. By this point, he's made his way a little closer to the throng of cats, looking to Scorchstreak for guidance, though she doesn't seem to offer any plans, either. They couldn't be stopped on their quest here, could they? But, there doesn't seem to be any other options left, aside from letting the RiverClanners just continue alone, which he wouldn't trust for a second.

A splash draws his attention, a fire-pelted tom slipping easily into the water, and he watches with round eyes as the RiverClanner paddles with strong strokes further and further away from the shoreline, saying that they'll make a path. Just like the others, Luckypaw is understandably confused, even as he tracks gazes towards the strange, broken-down Twoleg bridge across the shore. Make a path? How did they expect to do that? Were they going to - repair the bridge, somehow? He shoots a curious look towards the other RiverClanners, and then the SkyClanners, in turn. Did they know more about Twolegs than he realized, that they would be able to fix the bridge enough that they could all walk across it? An elaboration on the plan eases his confusion, but hardly touches on his concern - they were going to swim the bridge across, and hold it in place for the rest of them to walk across? "We're just gonna - walk across it?" he asks, to nobody and to everybody, disbelief and a note of worry in his voice. It's not that he doubts the RiverClanner's abilities here - no, it's more that he's nervous about going anywhere near them in their own element, that they'll wait for the others to make it halfway across before letting go, sending them all to a watery grave. They'd done nothing to earn his trust thus far, and it would be an easy story to tell to the other Clans once they got back - a sudden flood, and only RiverClan was able to make it out with their lives.
