private A DOOR WIDE SHUT | sootspot

Celandinepaw took the peaceful days as a sign that she should allow time to take its toll, but not without adequate preparation. Cottonsprig had warned her of the actual season's approach, and that the early wake of winter would not mean that it would give in so easily, either. The medicine cat apprentice hadn't much leeway to argue, even if she wished for a afternoon-warmed nap more than anything. The wheat-toned molly slowly sorted a pile of assorted herbs into respective smaller piles, though the leaves and stems had brittled as if icy claws still staked their hold onto them, misgiving much of her prior thoughts. Many of their stores had survived, but many more had curled into fists of death and whittled into themselves. Her den, at least, had been temporarily vacated of all other presences in order to ensure that she could clean it thoroughly. Keen ears caught upon footsteps entering the medicine cat den, and a chill of dread sank into her chest, like a veiled pall had rested upon her countenance. Fox-grin and cinder-pelted tomcat stood before her, blocking the daylight as an eclipse to what little comfort could be afforded to the medicine cat apprentice. He was one of the only cats who knew of her secret, holding it indelicately within his palm like a morsal extended to a slavering hound, a mere piece of leverage for his own gain. "Um, uh... Do you need anything, Sootspot?" Celandinepaw tilted her head slightly to the side, her fear like a ghostly presence just behind her frame, scourging even the sunglow-colored she-cat. She turned away from Sootspot, and only attempted to keep her paws busy with something. She had never trusted the man, not even on the very first day when he was one of the first Windclanners to meet her at the border. Still, he was her clanmates... and she was indebted to help him, regardless of if she wanted to or not.

    — MEDICINAL EXPERTISE: Celandinepaw is the current medicine cat apprentice of Windclan. Although she is quite new to her position, she also has much expertise with treatment regarding infectious diseases and basic remedies. As for anything more complex... you're better off asking a more experienced medicine cat.

Reactions: SOOTSPOT

Bright eyes quickly adjusted to the dimness of the Medicine Cat's Den, a place that Sootspot couldn't ever recall holding with sanctity. Even as he pretended to respect the leader's den and the council, it was oftentimes too easy for him to walk within the nest of sin as if it were his own modest accommodation. He smiled towards its only other inhabitant, curiosity peaked by an almost nervous-twinge to the tabby's voice. There was no remorse for the thought of using Celandinepaw; she had used the clan's weakness to join, used his sister's stupidity to become a medicine cat apprentice and used his knowledge to avoid becoming a pariah for her status as a non-believer. All she had done since she joined was take, take and take, take their prey, take their shelter, take their connection to StarClan, take an esteemed rank away from a clanborn cat... it only seemed fair to take something back.

And yet the clan was in too good a standing for such a thing. He had worked too hard, his kittens had worked too hard; there was no chaos to capitalise on, no chance of his light shining in the darkness for he had done too much to preserve the day as it was. He'd become too good to use her fear, and it would either bring him what he deserved or destine him to mediocrity for moons longer. The too-perfect tom held no stakes as he walked closer to the apprentice and settled himself upon an empty nest. He was there as a reminder of what he knew and nothing more, but silence had never quite suited the Tunneler.

'Perhaps you trust me more than you realise...' he thought peacefully as she turned her back to him; he didn't think he could do the same for any clanmate. A tail swished, bumping against a herb store, sending a few leaves rustling and floating to the soft earth below. "Answers, I suppose," he finally replied, voice level. "I saw Sootstar die over and over, I saw Sunstar collapse all the same... Scorchstar will fall nine times too, inevitably." He tried not linger on the thought of himself causing such a downfall, he could play fair if the calico was fair with him. "So a part of you must know that our faith is real, yet... you reject it anyways. You have given up your name, your life and your family... but your lack of faith is the one thing to cling onto." His ears swiveled forwards. "Can you blame me for being curious why that might be the case?"
