Amberdawn yawned as dawn light trickled into the warrior's den, she blinked her hazel eyes at the light and shook off the bits of moss that clung to her fur as she rose to her paws. Bending down in a stretch, she felt the fur along her back prickle from the cold and scrunched her nose at the chill. I should see about adding some extra brambles to the outskirts of the den, some of the wind is getting through. She thought, licking her nose before scanning her gaze over the warriors in the den. A familiar-looking bundle of soft brown and white fur caught her attention. Amberdawn padded over to Roeflame and bent her head to the molly to show her respect.

"Greetings Roeflame" she mewed with a lick of her whiskers. "I planned to take Basilpaw out for training today, I was looking for another to join our hunting party if you'd like, you're welcome to accompany us." Amberdawn sat down and curled her long tail over her paws as she waited for a reply. She flicked her ear as she realized this would be a good chance to talk with the deputy about reinforcing the dens from the harsh cold of leaf bare. I hope she doesn't take it as me telling her how to do her job, she makes a fine deputy. She quickly bent her head to give her chest a few comforting licks, cursing herself for worrying about something so silly.

With the beastly morning chill that only grew sharper by the day, Roeflame had begun to rise earlier at the demand of her weakening lungs. Even if her ailment was no secret to her Clan, it was easier to work through deep breaths without the prying eyes of clanmates on her.

The sting of her inhales were just beginning to wane as the deputy forced her lungs to re-familiarize themselves with their new environment when Amberdawns greeting prompted the deputy's attention. Clearing her throat, the tabby she-cat dipped her head before speaking, "good morning." A short but polite reply.

Amberdawns invite sparks a glimmer of interest in Roeflame's expression, and there was luckily no dawn patrol waiting to be escorted by her this morning. "Sure, I could stretch my legs. I'm sure Dovepaw and Dwindlingpaw will be happy to come along as well." Unlikely, given the frigid temperature, but Roeflame had raised fine hunters, and their skills needed to be put to use.

Amberdawn stepped back, giving the deputy space to move forward as she nodded in agreement. "Can never have too many paws with hunting in leaf-bare. Especially with how many apprentices we have, Thunderclan needs to make use of so many cats. I see some promising warriors in our future." She purred with delight as she began to pad alongside Roeflame toward the apprentice den. "Besides, if I know anything about young cats, we make this hunting party seem like a competition between them, and we'll have the whole clan fed by sunhigh."

Amberdawn twitched her whiskers as she poked her muzzle into the den, she recognized Basilpaw's cream-ticked pelt and let out a greeting. "Morning Basilpaw, come along we're going on a hunting patrol. Dovepaw & Dwindlingpaw are coming along." She claimed, tilting her ears towards back to Basilpaw she purred, "Basilpaw, if you make good use of your pelt, hunting should come easy for you. You practically blend into the snow." She beckoned him with the tip of her fluffy tail, "Say Roeflame, what do you think about letting the apprentice with the best hunting skills today get first pick from the fresk-kill pile when we return?" Amberdawn claimed, lowering her voice slightly as to not get the apprentices too hyped up.

⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊ Her nest was her peace and joy as of late, with the unwelcome snow and frosty wind making it harder and harder to leave its warmth. Soft pawsteps stopped right out front of the apprentice den, and Dwindlingpaw with her red face still buried under her front paws tilted her ear to eavesdrop on whatever early bird graced their doorstep. Basilpaw's name was called by a chipper voice, and she couldn't help but snicker at the unfortunate apprentice until her name was called too, along with Dovepaw.

Her long tail thumped the ground irritably before she raised her head to look at the brown and golden warrior. "A tad early, don't you think?" she grumbled. She rose and felt the crops morning air lay siege to her warm underbelly. The apprentice leaned back to stretch her front legs, kicking them up a bit before doing so with her back legs.

"I'm sure Basilpaw's pretty fur is the latest talk of all the mice and squirrels," she teased, her voice monotone, as she squeezed past Amberdawn to leave the den. Her pride was still bruised from her multiple failed hunting attempts in the frosty weather. Dwindlingpaw cast a tired questioning look at her mentor but didn't question the deputy's early rise.

Palefire was luckily well on her way to recovering from the whitecough she'd contracted during the blizzard, as was Ivorypaw she noticed, but some of their clanmates seemed to be taking a bit longer. Her gaze narrowed concernedly on Roeflame as the deputy rose from her nest, still looking less than as strong as she remembered. She kept her mouth shut though, knowing better than to question the silver molly's wellness.

The young warrior had woken almost an hour ago, waiting for the sun to rise, seated elegantly outside the warriors den with her tail curled around three of her paws while the fourth was raised to swipe softly over her ears. She'd been having trouble sleeping the past few moons, haunted by unpleasant memories, so she chose to get a jump on her responsibilities instead.

Unfortunately for her apprentices, that meant they were rising early as well. She'd already roused Meadowpaw and Ivorypaw, but was giving them a few moments to adjust to the morning before setting out. Amberdawn's request for Roeflame to join her on a hunting patrol peaked the lynx-point's interest, her ears swiveling subtly as she turned to the chocolate tabby.

"Have you got room for any more?"
she queried lightly while rising to stretch, her back arching languidly before straightening with a shiver. "I was planning on taking Meadowpaw and Ivorypaw for some training, but i'm sure they'd appreciate a break." Since the ambush, she'd been focusing intently on improving their battle skills... perhaps a little too intently. She needed to remind herself that they were still young, and pushing them too hard would only be a detriment to them in the long run.

Amberdawn flicked her ears forward in surprise at the young she-cat's tone and she blinked away her shock as she stepped back to allow the apprentices to pad past. She let out a disapproving sniff at Dwindlingpaw's behavior as she glanced at the deputy hoping for a light scold. Just then a familiar mew turned her head and Amberdawn let out a polite chirp of greeting in reply "Palefire, always a pleasure." Amberdawn exclaimed, dipping her head in respect before twitching her whiskers in thought.

Should I ask Roeflame first? She thought, glancing at the deputy for a moment. Technically Amberdawn was leading the patrol, she had invited the molly along, but still. She flicked her tail and gestured towards Roeflame and Dwindlingpaw. "I see no reason why not, what do you think Roeflame?" Amberdawn mewed. She figured it best to accept Palefire's invite without taking the deputy's opinion out of the conversation. "We were just talking about a possible competition for the apprentices, winner gets first pick of fresh-kill when we get back. More apprentices just means a more entertaining competition.
