The wound in the crook of Wormwatcher's neck throbs in a dull rhythm like a woodpecker has decided to drum its beak against him. He crouches close to the entryway to Marbleleaf's den, his lengthy limbs gathered beneath himself as he watches camp life go on. In his peripheral vision he keeps tabs on the rosette tabby at his shoulder, she is just as quiet as he is but the unspoken words are loud. He did not expect to have her as a visitor, he would have thought that she would avoid him until he could resume their training; he still has so much to learn about Puddlepaw. The presence of his apprentice is a welcomed one and her visitation touches him in an odd way considering their vacillating relationship.

The chimera turns his head a bit to look at Puddlepaw through slitted eyes, he carefully searches for indication of her current state of mind. How she looks now is completely unrecognizable from the Puddlepaw he crawled to when he escaped jaws of death; he had never seen such a mixture of emotions on another's face before. Wormwatcher scrutinizes her rusty squint which is unwavering and firm, it is in all ways opposite from the frenzied glare he'd seen after she took the life of a weak Thunderclanner. He is the first to turn his eyes away from their prolonged eye contact, since then it has even been difficult to look at her for long. She serves as a reminder of his own failures after all, somewhere throughout their time as mentor and apprentice he has led her astray. Wormwatcher's tongue touches the roof his mouth and he clacks it then asks, "Do you feel accomplished?" As he has been stuck in the confines of the medicine den his mind has strayed to wondering if Puddlepaw felt she was required to take a life. Surely she did not think there was going to be praise for slicing open one's throat. "...Puddlepaw, do you, did you want to kill her?" Large ears tilt forward slightly as he awaits a reply and the corner of his downturned lips twitch nervously.

Wormwatcher can be hard to interact with because of coldness but beneath it is someone who cares for each and every clanmate. Occasionally he can have major mood swings, resulting in harmful remarks and unseemly behavior.

She can never understand Wormwatcher, some days she thinks she does. Then she is proven wrong, this is one of those moments. Most interactions she's had surrounding her actions in that battle had either been positive, one of fascination and mixed concerns, it's difficult to say how she herself feels. Sometimes she thinks she can see the mangled body of Myrtlepaw in the shadows of the apprentices den, yet there is no pit in her stomach. It isn't uncommon to be scrutinized by her mentor but today it feels particularly poignant. "You look like you want to say something" she prods, it is something she will no doubt be reprimanded for but she does it anyways.

There's a thoughtful pause to his question, she considers her interaction with that stranger, the uglier Rainbowpaw. A mutual painful neutrality to what life has been snuffed out in their wake. "No, we lost after all" why should she feel accomplished if the majority still lost? "I am grateful to not have lost my own battle" is that scratching at a sore spot? The last time she saw Wormwatcher he had been losing rather badly to that medicine cat. She brings a paw to the sleek fur on the top of her head, swiping behind her ear with a tilt of her head. She watches him expectantly, though her mentor presents himself to be encased within ice she considers him to still be rather dramatic, expressive with the quirk of faux brows or a twitch of a sneer. Things she, herself would never showcase.

"Why would I want that? It was a necessity, her or me" she comments with a sniff. She hadn't woken up that morning eager to kill a ThunderClanner, she wasn't distraught over said actions though. It is clear through her steely demeanor that if that is the reaction he wanted then he would not be receiving it. Even if Myrtlepaw wasn't going to kill her, who's to say some bullheaded ThunderClan warrior wouldn't rush to her aid and do that for her? "I do not regret it" as far as she's aware she doesn't, no matter what the shadow on the wall, nor the tom in front of her tries to tell her.

The song is loud and beautiful and I am so very afraid

Wormwatcher knows Puddlepaw does not intend to be, but she appears smug in the lowlight beneath the pine trees. He tracks the movement of her paw over her head through narrowed eyes, and as it drops to the nettle littered ground. 'I am grateful to not have lost my own battle' An exasperated sigh falls from his maw causing condensation bellows in the cold Leafbare air. He attempts to maintain a neutral expression but his muzzle twitches, it betrays his flair in temper at her mention of his failure. This, added to 'You look like you want to say something' presses on his nerves but he takes a sharp intake of air to try and diffuse his mounting anger. "You have no clue what you are speaking about," Wormwatcher mutters as he shifts to the side, he wants more space between them so he can clearly see her minimal expression of emotion.

"Killing is never a necessity, not now, not ever. Especially not now." The things she says would be shocking if it were spoken by another apprentice, but he feels none in response to her. All he feels is irritation for her lack of sympathy and unnerving concern for Puddlepaw. An ink-dipped paw raises to touch the healing wound across his throat. His head slants as he considers his next words, soon after he nods as he finds a direction to lead the conversation. "Puddlepaw… it was not you or her… It is clear to me she was not an opponent but an obstacle for you. You had something to prove…. or, or your adrenaline got the best of you."

The struggling mentor tries to look at Puddlepaw's situation through the eyes of another, maybe Ternstar or someone else who may celebrate the death of Myrtlepaw and hail it as something to be celebrated. "She was weak... not trained as well as you or as strong-minded... I think you must know this if I could see it as I was losing my battle." He grants her this admittance, he dangles the truth they both know over her head in hopes she will take the bait and give him the truth in exchange. "All this to say, Puddlepaw, you had the right to attack— it is a battle after all— but from what I could see there was no reason to kill, you can... tch... protect yourself with less than that." Before he proceeds Wormwatcher's shuts his maw and grimaces, he fears Puddlepaw will just up and walk away, effectively disengaging from any further conversation about her misteps.
