The past few days had made Wildheart increasingly more prickly given the current state within the clan. If he heard one more remark isolating clanmates with kittypet blood then he was honestly going to snap! It was because of this that he had become somewhat more observant of those around him and what they were doing, and what they weren't doing for that matter. He had heard the duties being listed for the day earlier, but it seemed that one apprentice was ignoring her duties.

The warrior tailed the youth back towards the apprentice den before he made his presence known as he pushed his way inside. "Last time I checked this wasn't the elder's den. Why are you in here, Houndpaw? You have your duties to attend to, so get to it before I cuff your ears!" Wildheart growled in a low tone that conveyed that his temper was particularly short that day and that it would be foolish to push him.

//please wait for @Houndpaw

YOU THINK THAT YOU'RE THE MAN

The one thing Houndpaw was excited for when she’s named a warrior, if she gets named one, was the lack of apprentice chores. Sure warriors still got assigned to tasks like that but at least no ones going to be breathing down her neck as much. In her mind there were a lot more lax rulings with supervising warriors doing their work, unlike apprentices. She was assigned to clean and maintain the elders' den, while she held respect for the elders of ThunderClan she thought that this was one the worst chores to be stuck with. There was an art to avoiding duties, usually they were a lot more careful with it. Seeming busy by taking the time to educate kits, clinging to the quieter parts of camp until she was ready to actually do the work. Today they had become complacent, thinking that no one had paid that much attention to what the duties were , so she had decided to wait out some time in the apprentices' den.

Of course they didn’t realise that they were being followed until Wildheart had pushed his way inside. They spun on their paws to chastise whoever had decided to follow her until they realised who it was. Any antagonising quips she had died once Wildheart began his tirade against her. “I thought that I should come in here and see if I could find someone willing to help, I thought it was a big job for just me” she confesses with a quiet yawn. Trying to dance around the point of no return with invoking his ire anymore than they already had. “Why are you following me anyways? If you’re this concerned you could always help me out” in the end she can’t help but push back a little, how hypocritical of him to hound her on her duties when he has his own to worry about. He had his own apprentice to worry about didn’t he? Why concern himself with others?

I THINK, THEREFORE, I AM

Burnstorm remembers his apprentice days with fondness and bitterness in equal measure. He had worked hard as a paw, desperate to prove that he was a good a warrior as any other ThunderClanner despite his blood, despite his father, and it had paid off. He had become a warrior at eleven moons and then he had gone on to be named a lead warrior as well. A trusted member of his grandmothers council. He understands, though, that most other apprentices did not feel similarly to the way he had, that they did not have something to prove like him. It was, therefor, not uncommon to discover a wayward apprentice or two trying to shirk their duties.

Wildheart is quick to scold Houndpaw, who claims she was simply trying to find some extra paws to help her find work. His golden eyes narrow and he comes to stand next to the fire-pelted tom. "If you need help, you should let someone know and we'll find you an extra set of paws to help you. It is Wildheart's duty as a warrior to ensure the elders are being taken care of, as it is yours as well. Now go and let me not hear of you wandering again or I'll be having a word with your mentor" and then Houndpaw would find herself with a real workload befitting two cats instead of just one.

For the last seven moons, Roeflame’s attention had been completely poured into her budding family, her closest friends, they were all she had the energy for. Yet, as her kits grew and matured, the silver-lit queen found the weight of her responsibilities began to feel slightly lighter. While her children played, Roeflame walked out into the clearing to grab herself something to eat when Wildheart’s reprimands could be heard from all the way inside the apprentices' den. When a scorned Houndpaw would be escorted out by the two warriors, Roeflame would draw over, finding her place at Burnstorms flank. “Flycatcher caught me skipping out on changing the nursery’s nests once. Had me cleaning it out myself for a quarter moon.” If Houndpaw was still around, Roeflame would spare the apprentice a small quirk of her maw, otherwise her sentiments would be spared for the warriors alone. “Did hiding from your duties ever actually work?” Roeflame can’t remember a time where she had been successful in her attempts.

❝ it's gonna hurt for a bit of time ❞

Lightflower overheard Wildheart's curt tone and winced in sympathy for Houndpaw. She may have tried a time or two to escape her lesser favorite tasks, though not overly successfully. Nowadays she took solo or duo "hunting patrols" (usually a piece or two was brought home) to clear her mind. Remembering her recent walk with Lovelight made her smile faintly.

She slid up beside the other warriors, giving Roeflame a light nudge, "You certainly didn't let me get away with it," she purred.

"I am a warrior, it is my duty to ensure that all others are conducting their part when it comes to caring for the clan. Cleaning the elders den is hardly a mountainous task, so get to it." Wildheart wrinkled his nose as he spoke as a snarl threatened to well up in his tone. As others arrived the calico tom simply shook his head as he moved to step aside from the apprentice den entrance. "I've never had to be chased up about carrying out my duties, the rest of you could stand to learn from me."
