PHASE 1 [11.02 - 11.09]
An early frost hits the territories, sending surprise rippling through the Clans. They should still have a moon before leaf-bare arrives! Leaders, deputies and medicine cats scramble to prepare their Clans for the cold season, organizing patrols to gather resources (prey, herbs, moss, camp repair materials, etc.). Challenges will include frost-covered prey trails, competing against other predators, dried up water sources, and scarcer herbs.
-
-
❄ Time to start fortifying those dens earlier than expected to keep out the chill!
❄ Does your character care at all for the look of their nest right now, or are they all about keeping as warm as possible?
❄ With the change in weather, the moss bedding is becoming brittle and spiky. How does your character feel about it?
❄ It’s the apprentices’ first time training in cold conditions! Time to hone their skills!
❄ Predators and rogues are growing bold; gatherers are likely to encounter either.
❄ Your patrol is thirsty, but the usual little creeks have dried up in the cold. Where else can you find water?
❄ Your character’s go-to prey dens are found empty and cold. What creative tactics do they use to find prey instead?

PHASE 2 [11.10 - 11.17]
As the frost settles in and temperatures continue to drop, it grows harder to traverse the territories. Thankfully, it hasn’t started to snow yet. Between streams freezing and hunting patrols encountering more trouble at the borders as rogues join in the fun, resources are getting noticeably scarce. Things are definitely getting intense as the cats race to secure enough supplies before it’s too late.
During this phase,
hunting patrols have advantage on Prey Rolls in other Clan territory - but if an encounter is rolled, the thread
must be an open in the target Clan’s board instead of a predator or rogue arriving. The result of the intruding Clan’s rolls will stand, whether they succeed in stealing prey or not. Advantage means you get to roll twice and take the higher roll. If no encounter is rolled, the thread will be private. It must be noted if this will take place on another Clan’s territory
prior to rolling for encounter.

❆ As temperatures continue to drop, the resulting frost is no joke. Watch out - the icy ground is slippery!
❆ Smaller bodies of water may be freezing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t crack the ice! Falling through into the freezing water means a stay in the medicine den for a case of the chills.
❆ Uh oh, is that frostbite…? Better seek out the medicine cat and stay warm!
❆ Don’t you hate these unexpected leaf-bare storms? Take cover where you can!
❆ Hunting patrols might encounter conflicts at the borders, as neighboring clans start to feel the strain of less prey.
❆ Apprentices may struggle to complete their duties under the harsher conditions during their first cold season. Mentors, here’s a chance to teach them resilience.
❆ There are rumours beginning to spread that Clan leaders are considering new alliances. Does your character have any hopes for formed or broken bonds?
❆ Fourtrees looks mighty tempting to hunt in right now…Clan leaders, is it worth claiming temporarily? Or perhaps is it safer to send hunting patrols into it, unclaimed?

PHASE 3 [11.18 - 11.23]
On a slightly warmer night after a day of lucky hunting, each Clan decides to hold a small celebration to lift their Clanmates’ spirits. Hopefully during this time, warriors and apprentices alike will feel their burdens lightened! It is a time for cats to reflect on the challenges they’ve faced recently and take pride in their hard work. Cats can share prey and stories, and talk about the difficult season ahead.
This phase will be a moment of peace and unity within each Clan where you, the roleplayer, can enjoy a relaxed and positive atmosphere. Canonically, it will take place on the night of November 18, and threads will be fluid timed throughout the phase. There is no rolling during this phase.
-
-
❆ Characters are enjoying a celebratory meal between friends, offering a moment of bonding.
❆ Warriors take the opportunity to tell apprentices stories about past leaf-bares. History and knowledge of their ancestors is important to pass down.
❆ Medicine cats have a lot to worry about when it comes to leaf-bare. They may share their own concerns and give advice to their clanmates on how to stay healthy during the coming cold.
❆ Celebrations do lead to heightened emotions. Perhaps this is an opportunity for romance or deeper friendships to develop during the festive mood?
The celebration is abruptly cut off when StarClan sends an omen to all the medicine cats about an upcoming disaster: not just an early snow, but a blizzard!
-
PHASE 4 [11.24 - 11.30]
The Clans don’t have to anticipate this threat for long; the first snow has begun to fall the morning after the celebration, and the real test has arrived with it. With Clans largely stuck in the proximity of camp, they must rely on their stockpiles. If unable, they face increased illness, difficult hunts, and potential disaster!
This is when the Clans will be truly tested on their ability to survive what promises to be an especially harsh leaf-bare. Clans who gathered a lot of materials can play it safer, while those who struggled more will face more challenges in the harshest week yet if they attempt to acquire more resources.
Each character in a resource gathering patrol will now have to roll for Health.
-
-
❆ The Clans who gathered less prey are facing starvation, leading to desperate measures like crossing borders.
❆ It’s almost impossible to see a whisker-length ahead! Cats may get lost out there in the blizzard as landmarks become cloaked in snow.
❆ Medicine cats struggle to keep up with whitecough and greencough flaring, as well as frostbite.
❆ Border tensions are flaring up! Hopefully the medicine cats have herbs for the wounds that will be incurred during these skirmishes.
❆ With so little food both in and out of the territories, more attacks from rogue bands and predators can be expected.
❆ Tensions over limited resources lead to arguments within the Clan. Your character gets into a disagreement with a Clanmate over fresh-kill or bedding. Do they resolve it peacefully or will tension continue to simmer?
❆ The cold has become unbearable and there are whispers of whether the Clan will survive leaf-bare. How does your character’s resolve stand?
❆ Heavy snow covers the territories, making it nearly impossible to hunt or track prey. Is it possible to adapt?
❆ Clanmates may seem unusually down or tired during this difficult time. How do cats find support in one another?
❆ The winds are horrible during this snowstorm! The camp walls need reinforcing.

THE FINALE [12.1]
The blizzard has ceased, and the Clans can know calm once again. The fate of each Clan has been sealed.
-
-
1st Place: This Clan will have a surprisingly plentiful leaf-bare. Despite the bitter cold, hunting comes easily, and prey remains more abundant than expected. These warriors are well-fed and strong.
2nd Place: While not in as good a place as the top scoring Clan, this Clan will have an easier leaf-bare than they’re used to! Prey is scarce but still more abundant than in previous leaf-bares. With some minor energy conservation, the Clan remains strong.
3rd Place: This Clan will face an average leaf-bare that they may be used to. Meals are smaller and less frequent, but it’s a familiar challenge in the cold season. With perseverance, the warriors will endure.
4th Place: This leaf-bare is harsher than what this Clan is accustomed to, and prey is worryingly scarce. Hunger begins to take its toll, leaving warriors weaker and more irritable. Every scrap of food counts and hunting patrols may need to venture into dangerous territory to get it. The Clan must fight to hold onto hope.
5th Place: Promised the harshest leaf-bare of all, they will struggle on the brink of starvation the next three moons. Prey is almost nonexistent, and every day feels like a desperate struggle to survive. Warriors grow thin and weary, and sickness may take hold. Only the most determined spirits will see this Clan through this trial.
-
1st Place: This Clan’s dens are well-insulated and their nests are warm. The cats will be well rested and healthy through leaf-bare.
2nd Place: While not as fortunate as the top Clan, this Clan has strong dens that shield them from the worst of the cold. Leaf-bare is manageable with minimal sickness.
3rd Place: This Clan experiences an average leaf-bare, with nests that provide basic warmth. Cats sleep fitfully, with some struggling with aching joints and minor colds. It’s uncomfortable, but nothing they can’t push through.
4th Place: The nests and dens are lacking, and the leaf-bare cold seeps in. Bedding is thin and warriors wake stiff and shivering. Elders and kits especially are prone to sickness and the Clan will have to work hard to stay healthy.
5th Place: The harshest leaf-bare awaits this Clan. Shelters barely hold together as warriors feel the biting cold in their bones. Sleep is restless and frostbite is a constant threat. Sickness runs rampant and morale is at an all-time low. Survival will be a struggle.
