Halfkit does not understand why, but she knows that Ashenpaw is mad at her. She cannot recall ever having done anything bad but she had been told by a grown up that if she upsets someone then she has to make it right. So that is what Halfkit intends to do. She intends to make it right. In the pile of prey scraps she drags out what remains of a hare. The bones are gleaming white - bleached from their time spent in the sun and for her purposes, Halfkit picks one with lots of surface area.
For the next day she works hard, gnawing cracks into the bone so that the surface is marred by teeth marks. Her tiny, sharp, kitten teeth make the work go by faster but she is uncoordinated and the lines are sloppier than they intended. She pulls back to examine her work. She had been trying to etch the camp into the bone but the end result was turning out to be more... abstract then she intended. Whatever! It was the thought that counted, right? Just in case though, she wraps a stem of flowers at both ends and then she stands back to admire her work. Ashenpaw was going to love it shes sure!
She finds him in camp, bone clutched in her jaws and mismatched blue eyes shining in excitement. With her tail held high in the air, she makes her way over to him and deposits the bone at his paws. "Hi Ashenpaw, it's me Halfkit." just in case he didn't know. He was her older brother but she had never really talked to him. "I made this for you! I hope now you can uh stop being mad at me and be my big brother!" with one socked paw she reaches out and pushes her gift forward, presenting it to him.
