go tell AUNT RHODY ☆ shadowclan patrol

—————————————————————⊰⊱————————————————————
Skunktail isn't used to leading a patrol but he takes it in stride like he does most things. Whether you felt right at the front or not, you only had to act like you knew what you were doing and eventually you would-learning via faking it until you made it. It was a patrol with urgency anyways, so he didn't bother lingering on his thoughts of how to hold himself for longer than a few seconds when they set out. It was uncharted territory for him and his crew here and they were going to remain job focused above anything else. Thankfully he is less leading and more following along with ThunderClan's escort.
He thinks of Frostbite, pacing about like a worried queen when it wasn't even his kits and he had a desperate desire to see them returned that presented itself more boldly than even the kits father. But Smogmaw had never really been the most expressive sort of fellow had he? He was probably grieving too in his own morose way, though probably more for his lost mate than kits he didn't even know.

"Oi, SkyClan!" He's spotted a passing patrol and he raises his tail up in greeting, approaching the border with an awkward grin but confident strides. It felt odd being on another clan's territory but given they had permission to do so he was going to own it and try not to act too weird about the whole thing. "ThunderClan brought us here, we wanted to ask if you'd seen sign of any lost kits recently?" Skunktail clears his throat, launches into a proper explaination, "Halfkit and Tanglekit, one is a little cream and blue molly with mismatched eyes and the other is blue with orange ones- both have tabby stripes. They went missing not too long after you lot all cleared out and we've been searching for them since..."

Drizzlepelt blinks at the sudden arrival of ShadowClan in their territory, wondering what this could be about. Part of him worries they'll ask for something in return for lodging when they were forced out of their camp, but it's quickly squashed at the mention of some of their kits being lost. How horrid…he doubts they've come this far, and he's seen no traces of them himself, but there's no point in not keeping an eye out all the same.

"Sorry…no kits have passed through here that I'm aware of." Drizzlepelt apologizes sincerely. "But if there's any chance at all…maybe one of us can ask Blazestar to let you take a look around, if it'll ease your mind?" He offers with a sad smile. He highly doubts the patrol's actually here for nefarious purposes, and if it'll let SkyClan stay on their good side then he doesn't see any reason to not take it. However, it's up to their leader, not him.

It was kind of Howlingstar to let them pass, she thinks. She isnt used to their territory, but it has its charms. Most notably the leaves that have changed color and are beginning to fall to the ground. They crunch beneath her paws on land that is dry, something she has only experienced once and that was during the battle to reclaim the clans territories. She keeps close to the patrol not wanting to get lost in such a dense forest...At least, she thinks its dense. It feels that way. It's also the only forest she's ever seen.

When they reach Skyclans border, she shuffles to the front to stand beside Skunktail. She figures....She's the best example of what her little siblings look like. Perhaps not Tanglekit, but certainly Halfkit. Her head hurts with stress and worry and her jaw is tight. She won't break in front of another clan, though. She has to keep it together. When Skunktail speaks she lifts her head to look at whoever comes to meet them first.

"Um.... They look like me. Halfkit does, at least." She says.

She has her doubts that they made it aallll the way out here, but better safe than sorry because what if they DID make it all the way out here?

Marsh-scent fills his nose, and for a second, Greeneyes wonders if its him — if his diluted, mountain-muddled clan scent smells more marshy than he'd previously thought as he weaves through the pine forest. The call of an unfamiliar voice tells him otherwise, a flagging down of the patrol he takes part in that only leaves a flash of concern in his eyes. What is ShadowClan doing here?

The ginger tom's stride stops, a tilt of his head as he listens to the black and white warrior's words, his explanation. "Kits?" he echoes.

Like Drizzlepelt, he doesn't think he's seen any extra kits around, but, then again, any kit in the nursery now is basically new to him in the first place, having been gone for so long. He's lucky the stranger gives a description, and Greeneyes tries to think back to his recent visits to the nursery, tries to place cream and blue fur, to place a Halfkit and a Tanglekit.

An apprentice pushes her way forward and offers that they — or, Halfkit, at least — look like her. Kin, Greeneyes assumes, and his heart sinks at the realization, at the mere thought of Greeneyes' kin ever being lost. Still, he can't place them, even with the apprentice's visual aid.

"I'm sorry," he says with an apologetic look on his face, "I haven't seen them either." The young lead feels bad that they can only echo Drizzlepelt's own apology, feels bad that kits have seemingly disappeared without a trace, for ShadowClan to have had to travel this far to look for them.

"I can ask around camp, if you'd like!" he chirps, following Drizzlepelt's suggestion. Butterflytuft or Howlfire would know for certain if there were extra kits in the nursery, Mottledove too.

ShadowClan. A clan made familiar to her not because she had ever attended a gathering but because she had spent weeks in their home after being chased out of SkyClan with the rest of her clanmates. It had been scary, but she had chosen to stay and to fight. Had chosen to leave her twolegs and stay with the cats she cared for. The battle had been equally as scary, and she didn't have as much training as most but still she had given it her best effort. Now, she was familiar with the scent of marsh, though like many others she had not been expecting to scent it here. Their clan did not border ShadowClan's, at least as far as she knew.

She comes to stand with the rest of the patrol to listen to what the cats of the pines had to say. Kits were missing. The idea of such a thing troubles her and she imagines little scraps of fur toddling about the territory, eyes wide with fear and high pitched mewls calling out for their families... Horrible, just horrible. The image would haunt her nightmares later but instead of the shadowclanners kits they would be Howlfire's. She wants the image out of her head as fast as possible if she is honest. "We'll keep an eye out for them" she promises, but she feels a nagging uncertainty pulling at her chest. Surely, if they were in SkyClan they would have found them by now?

"SkyClan doesn't have them, no." Despite the bluntness of her meow upon arrival, the incline of her head afterwards is friendly enough by Orangeblossom's standards. She brings up the rear of the group, @eveningpaw likely nearby as usual, and her expression is set in a grim line as she looks over the visiting ShadowClanners. No Needledrift; but no cats who had journeyed with her at all, for that matter.

As far as she'd been told, the only kits that SkyClan had come home with were Howlfire's. That theory indeed tracked with the number of kittens in the holly-bush nursery now, Howlfire's trio of troublemakers and now Butterflytuft's pair of newborns its only inhabitants aside from their mothers and visiting fathers.

"Know that if we see them, we'll bring them back to ShadowClan immediately." She decides. If they were found injured, Orangeblossom decides she would cross that log when they arrived at it. "I'll tell the patrols and the daylight warriors to keep their eyes open while we're out." The last sentence is accompanied by a glance to Fantastream, relatively certain the tabby-patched she-cat would remain attentive on her way back to the Twolegplace in the evenings. She's relatively sure most of their daylight warriors would, now that she thinks about it; returning to their twolegs overnight had never impacted their nobility.

"Are they old enough to have wandered off on their own?" She doesn't know off the top of her head how old ShadowClan apprentices began their training. A description is useful enough, but knowing how old the missing kittens are would help her more.

Flintpaw sticks close to Scalejaw's side as they are escorted through the territory in search of Smogmaw's kits. There are two kittens missing or worse, and all she can think of is how much she'd rather be anywhere else. She doesn't want to see Garlicpaw's split-toned pelt bobbing in the corners of her vision; she doesn't want to so much as think about Smogmaw and his family, because Flintpaw knows deep down that she had a paw in tearing it up.

Maybe he should be glad he can be on the patrol to try and mend that wound, but really Flintpaw is anything but. He stays in Scalejaw's shadow as much as possible, placid expression bordering on guilty. We haven't seen the kits. It's a resounding chorus, one that sweeps over the ShadowClan patrol and their ThunderClan escorts in steady, sympathetic waves. Orangeblossom asks their morose few how old the kittens are. "Three moons," Flintpaw answers, tufted tail flicking uncomfortably behind her. It's been three months since Halfshade died. The thought sends a shiver through his shoulders; sets his black lips into a frown. "... they're three moons old. Still kits."

She's paid her penance. She hopes she can leave soon.

BRIARPAW — hello, my old heart.
Thunderclan's presence feels awkward, or perhaps it's simply because of the peculiar situation at paw.
Tanglekit and Halfkit were still nowhere to be seen, scent trails to follow non-existent.
Dutiful as ever, Briarpaw trots on the heels of her mentor, attempting to pay no mind the the forest-dwelling warriors only to fail in her occasional side-glance towards them.
Finally, though, the two clans arrive at Skyclan's border.
Barren branches stretch dauntingly overhead, the transition from oak to pine thought provoking.
Yet, that is not what brings Shadowclan to their doorstep today.
Once again they are met with solemn shaking heads, fruitless questions that Flintpaw answers with a frown.
Against Briarpaw's better judgement, the shadow-furred apprentice would bump lightly against Flintpaw's when she sees the shiver that runs down their spine. Perhaps a gesture of assurance, comfort? Or… maybe Flintpaw would see otherwise.
It was a melancholy situation, and the fear for the kits lives was palpable.

Scalejaw is present on the patrol, then. Her paws trailing through once-familiar ground, her paws careful to step through briar and thorn when it appeared. And it was no secret to herself that Flintpaw's guilt was tangible, floating on the air like some kind of bad poison. Her nose wrinkled at the thought of it, but her guard was still up as they approached the border.

Haven't seen them. No kits. Not here.

Her eyes narrowed gently, but despite the sour expression and even worse feeling in her chest, Scalejaw's head lowered in thanks to Orangeblossom and Fantastream. The looks between them didn't go pass the warrior. "We greatly appreciate you keeping an eye out." Scalejaw murmured to Skyclan's deputy. Her eyes shifted towards her apprentice as they spoke, and she nodded, looking back towards Orangeblossom. "My apprentice is right- three moons. Enough to get in trouble but not enough to..."

The rest of her statement went unspoken. Not old enough to traverse two or three territories without dying. Scalejaw's exterior hardened just as quickly as a window had opened, and she exhaled sharply. Vision turned towards Skunktail, seeing if it was time to leave or not.
