Asterkit would have never guessed that such innocent, simple lessons, meant to teach the young of the clan about the other clans, would become so tense and fraught with disagreements. Some time had passed since then but the tension had sat with Asterkit all the while. Innocent as she was, Asterkit was not ignorant of some of the cruel looks her family received, or the hushed whispers aimed at her mother and father. However, she still didn't really understand what the reasoning for it all was.

Other than what had been said to her mother and father, one other thing had stuck with her - Jaykit's reaction to what Spinterpaw said about the barn cats. Although Asterkit's question had been innocent, genuine curiosity over why her clanmates seemed so against kittypets when they allowed barn cats to join, she blamed herself for his snappish response. Asterkit had stayed away from him for the last few days, believing him to be mad at her and avoiding her because of what she had asked Bluefrost. Asterkit didn't really seem that aware of the fact it might have seemed as though she was avoiding him on account of her behaviour the past few days.

In a desire to mend their bond, Asterkit had set herself the task of finding a peace offering, hoping he would accept and that all would be right again. She liked Jaykit - considered him a friend, even - and did not want to lose their friendship over a silly comment. She thought long and hard over what to gift him, deciding between a pebble, a leaf, a flower, or a feather. All of them and none of them seemed the right thing to give to him. In the end, she settled for a feather, but not the one she had initially picked out, instead choosing a sleek black feather, that was approved by her littermates. Grabbing the feather between her teeth, Asterkit went to seek Jaykit out, finding him sitting in the back of the nursery in the warmth. It would have looked amusing to see her approach him, the feather held at an awkward angle and being nearly twice as wide as her head. She tried to set the feather down neatly when she got to him but because it got stuck in her mouth, she wound up more or less spitting it out in front of him. "I, uh, got this for you," Asterkit said shyly. "D-Do you like it?" She looked at him with a wide, pleading expression, hoping he would like the gift and decide to still be friends. Asterkit had barely given him a chance to respond before she apologetically lowered her head. "I didn't mean to upset you with what I said about barn cats!" She blurted out. " I think your parents are really nice and really wise, and totally not lazy kittypets!"
