THEY CALL KIDS LIKE US VICIOUS AND CARVED OUT OF STONE
BUT FOR WHAT WE'VE BECOME, WE JUST FEEL MORE ALONE
It had taken more than he'd expected to come to the forest. Not because he was afraid of what was out there- no, if anything vox welcomed the challenge that would come from a change of pace and new dangers- but because it was always hard for the tom to admit that he'd been wrong. And he had been. When his brother had suggested they leave all those weeks ago, he'd stubbornly refused, preferring to pretend that everything was fine when really nothing would ever be the same again.
And so Semper had left.
But in the weeks that followed, the cream tomcat found himself wracked with regret and restless anxiety. He had already lost so many cats, and now his brother was gone as well. And it hadn't even been worth it! Staying behind in twoleg place had done nothing but prove he was stubborn enough to ruin his own life, and as the days had ticked by his sanity had slowly gone with it. Until eventually, he'd just had to leave.
He felt bad for leaving Auggie behind, the one cat who'd maybe been keeping him sane during that time, but Augustus was a housepet. As much as the other tom yearned for adventure, Vox couldn't drag him into the world of wild cats and expect him to be happy. And Vox, well, he couldn't be hapy there. It just.. wasn't practical. So he'd left.
Now in the forest, he felt a little better.
Some of his restless energy had subsided now that he was actually doing something about it, and each step farther into the woods eased a little more of the tension from his body. Despite this, the tom was noticeably alert. Green eyes were sharp and ears were angled to keep tabs on his surroundings, and eventually he came to a place where the scent of cats hung heavy in the air.
This must be the place.
