YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ENOUGH

TW: Some mention of wounds and blood

She was losing focus, her eyes fluttering as she fought to stay awake for long enough to make sure that Dawnpaw was at least safe in camp. Firedawn was panting heavily, her chest heaving with each effort and her rear left leg was bleeding so heavily that it soaked and matted her normally well-kept fur.

She would fall into camp behind Dawnpaw, her legs quivering as she fought for strength, but eventually, the molly could no longer hold herself up. Her body was covered in scratches and bites, some hidden within her flowing fur. Her frame would crumple to the ground, relieved that they had at least made it back in semi-one piece.

The smell of blood invaded her nostrils and pulls her from her almost thoughtless mind. She's been running herself in circles with this dream that she feels is important. It had been so vivid that it has to be important. Still she isn't too sure of it and so she is grateful for the distraction. Slipping from her den her molten gaze widens as she looks upon the collapsed figure of Firedawn. She can see the crimson stain of blood upon her pelt and even more so she can smell the Carrionplace upon both her and Dawnpaw. "What happened?" She snaps with worry clear in her voice but there is also hesitancy there. Will she be able to save them? She knows more now from the help of other cats and she has been trying.

Despite everything she is trying to make this work. Quickly she disappears into her den and comes back with a leaf bundle. Dropping it she looks over the plants and mutters to herself their uses. With a quick paw she grabs up cobweb and attempts to place it on the worse of their wounds to stop the flow of their blood. Washing the wound will come next but she also knows their pain must be great. "Everything will be okay." She hopes.

Her interest had been attracted upon the screeching of a few npcs inside camp, wondering what all the fuss had been. Hailpaw’s first reaction was that they were being rather annoying, and was about to throw a snappy remark in their direction when she caught sight of Dawnpaw. Bonejaw already seemed to have been informed, as she wasted no time in rushing over. While she too wanted to know what had happened, she didn’t actually care enough to go over and find out. Instead, she’d elect to stay where she was, carefully watching out of the corner of her eyes. They were capable of handling things themselves. There wasn’t any reason for her to get caught up in the drama. Besides, nobody else was around so it wasn’t like the situation was that important.

The sharp scent of blood fills her senses, along with the tang of something else. Rat. Forestpaw wants to gag. She hears the medicine cat tell whoever it is that it's going to be okay, but the strong scent coming off of the victims hides their scent. The blind she-cat can't recognize them. "Who is it? What's wrong?" She asks the cat next to her, who she believes is the apprentice known as Hailpaw. The normally-lazy apprentice is on high alarm now, restless and uncomfortable and suddenly feeling vulnerable. "There's not a rat in camp too, is there?"

Flickerfire had wondered where Dawnpaw had been. She doesn't mind if her apprentice goes out with other warriors - especially Firedawn, as she has a sneaking suspicion they might be more than good friends - but as the hours has passed, a dull sense of concern had pounded within the confines of her skull.

Like Forestpaw, it's the scent of rat that hits her, even before the warriors' blood. The tortoiseshell stalks close to where Firedawn has collapsed, giving both her and Dawnpaw a glare. "What's wrong with y'all? Chasing rats?" She frowns and flicks her eyes over the wounded body of her apprentice. "You were lucky to make it out alive." Her voice is flat, but concern sparks in her volcanic gaze.

She steps back, knowing Bonejaw will need space, then turns to Hailpaw. "Don't ever do anything mouse-brained like that, you hear? At least not until I'm not responsible for you anymore." She grumbles.

After a second, she looks at Forestpaw. "I don't think any rats followed 'em home, but if they did, at least we'll get a snack out of the whole ordeal." She forgets to mention the names to Forestpaw, who cannot see and likely does not know her Clanmates by scent yet. It doesn't cross her mind to be that helpful.

Reactions: FORESTSHADE

She’s about to respond dryly to Forest when her mentor join them, quickly filling her in on the situation. At times, Hailpaw too neglects the fact that Forest is unable to see. Not having that struggle herself, she finds it difficult to relate and be helpful in most situations. Shaking her head, she’ll muse mostly to her mentor, but also so that Forest is able to have a play by play of the events. “You think I’m as frog brained as Dawnpaw? Please. I can handle a rat. That just means that his training will take longer. Why would Firedawn even allow it to get that bad?” Unaware that in only a few short days she would be as frog brained, if not more than Dawnpaw, she’d shake her head as she watched Bonejaw tend to the pair.
