his voice seems to hesitate to say his name. why? what is it about the name that makes him pause the way he does? he doesn't know. he doesn't address it. he twitches his ears back and forth as he gently pushes some small bird he found on the prey pile to the older tom cat, sitting down for a moment. he wonders about a lot. would he rather have someone else here helping him? like softpaw. she's helped him before. he's even taught her things. maybe he'd be better off getting her, but then he remembers the way gentlestorm's blood stained his paws before. orangepaw swears he can still see it if he looks close enough. did that haunting feeling ever go away?
"...can i ask you something? you can say no. you don't have to... i mean i... I'm rambling. again. my mom... my mom said I just have a lot to say and I do, you know, have a lot to say. and then I keep going and going, and around and around, and i can't stop the rock from rolling, you know? just... you can tell me to stop talking. sorry. i don't mean to ramble."
orangepaw can't help the way his ears push back and he just laughs quietly and smiles. this was way too much. enough about him. enough.
"enough about me, though. i brought you some food if you're hungry. if you want me to help, i can... what's the word? re...uhm. i can help put new herbs on your wound. i know I'm not your apprentice but you're my... you're my friend. i want to help. but if you'd prefer softpaw I can grab her. she's... smarter than i am."
orangepaw nervously licks the fur on his chest down. there are so much he wants to say but he has such a bad feeling that he's just being annoying. he decides that maybe now is the time to be quiet. gentlestorm needs rest, not orangepaw bugging him.
