Sunningrocks comes into view through the trees, and Crowsmile feels a familiar sting of anger. The sun-warmed stones are ThunderClan's rightful territory, and the sight of Freckleflame's murder. He inhales, smelling the fishy stench of their neighbors too strongly for it to be the scent markings. "Careful," he mutters over his shoulder, "We've got company."

The RiverClan patrol comes into view, and Crowsmile's ears flick in muted surprise. It's a large patrol, which makes him wary, though he supposed he doesn't have the right to judge; he has four cats behind him, after all. Still... his suspicion only grows as he recognizes not one, but two lead warriors among their numbers. Midnightash and Beefang, he's seen them at Gatherings. He turns and glances back at his companions and gestures towards the RiverClanners with his head.

He's going to challenge them, of course. Surely they aren't here with peaceful intentions in mind, right? They appear to be hunting, but maybe that's just a ruse. One can never trust a RiverClanner, that much is certain, so he doesn't stop to question himself before calling out, "Are you all going to stay on your side of the border, or do I have to send for reinforcements?" His tone is lazy, almost bored. Blue eyes single out a tawny molly, standing out like a fox in snow among the silver and dark pelts of the other RiverClan cats. She's a little too close to the border, he decides, and takes a step forward, deliberately meeting her gaze with a challenging spark in his own. But his neutral expression doesn't change.

crowsmile is a stark white tom with a black tail and ears and large blue eyes. a long-healed scar cuts across the right side of his face from the base of his ear to his jawline, leaving the vision in his right eye somewhat impaired. his clanmates know him as a hard-working, loyal warrior with a strong sense of justice. please note that, privately, crowsmile is a terrible person with uncharitable and even cruel opinions about other characters that i, his roleplayer, do not condone. all of his opinions are ic only. please check his bio for disclaimers about how he may refer to himself in his narrative and dialogue, as well as boundaries for how not to refer to him.

bronzeshine | 35 moons | female| she/her | physically moderate | mentally hard | attack in underline

The energy felt off that day. She'd woken up more... uncomfortable, than anything. She went about her morning as silently and lonely as she'd come to be over the past few moons. It wasn't a perfect existence, but it was manageable. And really, anything was better than being held hostage for fun by some rogues. That was a brutal moon. It had set her faith in the stars firm within her when she returned, however. Bronzeshine merely acknowledged her assignment to the ThunderClan patrol with a curt nod. Snakeblink wasn't exactly expecting anything else anyway.

The six of them plodded along the border, marking their scent along the border as usual. That uncomfortable energy got stronger, though. Turning sour the longer it festered. Only then did the leaf-litter itself decide to make itself known. Ugh, ThunderClan... she thought, rolling her eyes. Five hostile cats standing, borderline bristling at them. She could nearly laugh at the display. It was pathetic, the way the presumed leader of this patrol flaunted himself. This brute of a cat locks his blue gaze with her emerald in a clear challenge. Oh great, of course it's me, she internally groaned, though her demeanor sharpened.

"Are you all going to stay on your side of the border, or do I have to send for reinforcements?"

Bronzeshine barked out a sharp, venomous laugh. "Us? Please, we were minding our own business, on our own territory, before you cowards showed up." her tone was filled with a fire she hadn't felt in moons. "Matter of fact, why don't you take your little patrol and scurry away like the mice you are." she matched his challenge with a smug smirk and a slow, deliberate step closer.

જ➶ Sunningrocks is always a place of visible tension now. Ever since Thunderclan stole them in the first place the rocks have seen much more bloodshed than they should. But to all of those that live within Riverclan these rocks rightfully belong to the river dwellers. They have, afterall, always been their's after all. So without any sort of hesitation no matter the cause the lead knows that she will fight to keep them. Even now as she looks upon the rocks for any sort of scurrying of mice or vole the woman curls her muzzle at the not so welcomed scent of the leaf rot cats that call themselves a clan. Her eyes shift over toward Bronzeshine just as the other patrol makes their appearance. Her maw tightening up into a thin line of annoyance as she steps her way around the rocks to be close at her clanmates side. Eyes narrowing she focuses on the first to speak, talking about sending for reinforcements. A scoff leaving her muzzle at the audacity, thinking they would attack first. "Sounds like you can't hold your own."

Amber orbs roll then and she shifts slightly. The tension is thickening and she glances to Bronzeshine who steps closer to the border. The woman holds her head up slightly, though she moves a bit closer. Hopefully they will take the advice and keep scurrying on away. All they need to do is mark their border anyway but it's never easy with these squirrel munchers. They always want to poke and jab.

Tallstep stands a step behind Crowsmile, shifting uncomfortably on their paws. Their stomach twists, though whether from nerves or the faint scent of fish drifting from the RiverClan patrol, they can't quite tell. They don't like this. Too many cats, too much tension. The weight of tension lingers over Sunningrocks like a storm cloud, and Tallstep can practically hear the echoes of claws on stone, the sharp cries of wounded warriors. They glance at the RiverClan patrol, eyes flickering between their ranks.

Crowsmile is speaking—taunting, more like. Tallstep winces, already bracing for the response. It comes quickly, as expected, sharp words thrown like claws. The RiverClanners step closer, their gazes hard, their bodies coiled. Tallstep knows how this goes. They've seen it before. They should say something, diffuse it, but their mouth is dry, and their mind is already racing ahead to the worst-case scenario. Claws unsheathed, blood on stone, a body crumpled—

They shake themself, inhaling sharply through their nose. Not helpful. They force their ears up, straighten their spine, at least try to look like they belong here. "Look, we don't want trouble," they say, voice steady despite the way their paws itch to step back. "We're just making sure you're staying on your side. No need to turn this into something it doesn't have to be." It's a reasonable point. It should help. But Tallstep isn't naive. Reason doesn't always win when tempers are high. Their tail flicks, and they glance at Crowsmile, then back at the RiverClanners. If this goes bad, they'll have to fight. And they will. But they really, really don't want to.

The patrol's arrival comes with a shift in the air—an unmistakable weight Dipperfrost had felt long before they crested the rise. She'd been crouched near the outer edge of the rocks, watching the way sunlight flickered across the river's surface like fish-scales, muscles loose but coiled beneath her thick pelt. It was a familiar stillness, a practiced quiet, broken only when the scent of ThunderClan hit her nose like rot clinging to wet wood.

She doesn't rise right away. Not until Crowsmile's voice cuts across the clearing, lazy in tone but barbed all the same. Her gaze flicks upward at the sound, settling on the black and white-furred tom with the too-familiar gleam in his eyes. Stagsnarl is there too—she recognizes the heavy steps, the way his tail curls tight with tension. The same tom she'd tangled claws with at the last skirmish, alongside Scarletdust. Her whiskers twitch at the memory, unreadable.

She moves with quiet purpose, stepping forward from her perch to fall in beside Midnightash. A brief glance is cast toward Blackwater, ever-steady just behind them, and there's something in her chest that eases for just a heartbeat before her gaze slides back to the ThunderClanners.

Her expression doesn't shift much—she doesn't need it to. Her presence alone is a silent rebuke to Crowsmile's words, her stillness a pointed contrast to his baiting. Her tail flicks once in cool dismissal before she finally speaks, voice low and flat as riverstone. "Sunningrocks belong to RiverClan." That's all she says. That's all she needs to say.

She doesn't flinch, doesn't look away. Her eyes stay locked on the opposing patrol, pale and steady beneath the glow of midmorning light. The water murmurs in the background, endlessly flowing—indifferent to the tension on its banks. The stones beneath her paws are warm from the sun, but the chill in her posture is unmistakable. She shifts slightly, her weight bracing just enough to show she's ready. Not eager—but prepared if something were to break out.

DIPPERFROST RIVERCLAN WARRIOR; SHE / HER ; SWANTUFT X FINLEAP
Dipperfrost is a tall, slender she-cat with a white coat broken by blue tabby patches, a tuft of curls atop her head, and a star-shaped marking on her forehead. Her brilliant blue eyes—one flecked with a yellow starburst—are often half-lidded, lending her a distant, unreadable expression. Quiet and observant, she speaks with purpose, choosing honesty over comfort and control over chaos. Her aloof demeanor and measured composure make her difficult to approach, but for those who earn her trust, she is fiercely loyal. Though cynical and pragmatic, she remains a steady, unshaken presence, ever watchful of the world around her.
Difficult in battle + a skilled fighter

Flurryjump had always believed the conflict over what essentially was a glorified sunning spot was silly. There was absolutely no reason in her mind that such a place couldn't be shared. Before the clans, she felt like such a thing was more commonplace, but now with more rigorous borders, it led to unnecessary fights. Riverclan could claim all they wanted that it was for hunting, but their vast stretches of other places along the river to hunt proved otherwise. No, this was all over pride. Pride was what kept this silly fight going.

However, as silly as she thought it was, she was still a Thunderclan warrior. And she would not let Riverclan heckle her clanmates in such a way and do nothing.

"Rich of you to call us mice! You couldn't even be bothered to scuttle out of your fish dens for the gathering, sounds like a bunch of sore losers to me! Your stupid leader's silly code didn't make the cut, so you hide like a buncha slugs?" She spat back, fur standing up as she stood firm on the border behind Crowsmile. She ignored Tallstep's attempts at de-escalation. Riverclan couldn't be allowed to say whatever they wanted to others. She wasn't scared, no matter how many they might be outnumbered by.

"The only cowards here are you. Your clan handles conflict like kits!"

OOC:

Scarletdust stands beside her clanmates with her narrowed eyes locked onto the RiverClan patrol. Her ears twitch at Crowsmile's taunt, and then at Bronzeshine's venomous laugh in response. The tension between their patrols crackles like a coming storm, and the young warrior feels her claws itch against the stone, eager to draw blood.

She's not surprised by the hostility. This is Sunningrocks, after all. This place is soaked in the blood of ThunderClan and RiverClan warriors alike. Her clanmates have died here because of RiverClan's selfishness. And yet, these fish-breaths dare act like they're the ones being wronged? Like they have any claim to be offended? It makes her stomach twist with disgust.

Her tail lashes as Bronzeshine steps closer. Midnightash speaks next, and Scarletdust's lip curls in irritation as she scoffs. 'Sounds like you can't hold your own.' Flurryjump's words fire off next, and the tortoiseshell smirks. Good. Let them hear it. Let them know ThunderClan won't just roll over for their arrogance. Tallstep might want to keep things calm, but Scarletdust has no patience for diplomacy with cats who never offer the same.

Rolling her shoulders, she steps up beside Crowsmile next. "If you're so bold, why don't you actually do something instead of running your mouths?" She sneers sharply, voice low and dripping with unimpressed disdain. She casts a slow, pointed glance over the RiverClan warriors, eyes gleaming with challenge. "No? Too afraid? Pity."

YOU ALWAYS SAID HOW YOU LIKE DOGS

"of course they're afraid. it's hard for them to face that they'll have to fight true warriors. shame. i was hoping to fight something worth it but if we are just going to waste our time with pathetic riverclanners... too easy a win."

whether or not stagsnarl believes their words is neither here nor there. they hate riverclan. they always would, for as long as they had air in their lungs in order to hate. not like it's hard. much like other clans, they acted all high and mighty, and not to mention acting blessed by the stars? as if. windclan in recent moons had relaxed with that but that meant, apparently, that riverclan took over. pathetic.

"if youre feeling froggy, riverclan, you're more than welcome to leap."

It was hardly a surprise that the youngest member of the patrol would be the first to act without thinking. Otterpaw threw himself into the water, his fur bristling as he squared off against the ThunderClan patrol.

"How about you actually do something instead of just talking!" He hissed, the water splashing as he moved. It was obvious Thunderclan was here to start trouble, even start a fight, and he wasn't going to just let them talk. He was small for his age, but he wasn't afraid. A strong Riverclan cat should never be afraid of a fight, especially against Thunderclan. From what he understood, Thunderclan was the absolute worst of their neighbors.

Otterpaw was ready to prove himself, no matter what. He had to.

OOC: Open to being smacked!

A little thrill rolls through his body as his words spark immediate conflict. The venomous reaction he gets out of the coppery molly only eggs him on, keeping direct, burning eye contact as she takes a step closer. Crowsmile notes the movement with a tilt of his head. "Careful," he warns, "A few more steps and you just might prove my suspicion correct!" He keeps his expression carefully neutral, hiding the true depth of his eagerness to sink his claws and teeth into fishy-smelling hides.

Sharp-edged words start to fly back and forth across the border, with only Tallstep trying to de-escalate. Even Flurryjump, a normally easy-going warrior, is incited to anger. Scarletdust steps up beside him, her taunts followed closely by Stagsnarl's, and Crowsmile feels a swell of pride in his Clanmates. He's lucky to have them... well, most of them; he tries to pretend that Tallstep isn't here to keep his warm fuzzy feelings going.

"shame. i was hoping to fight something worth it but if we are just going to waste our time with pathetic riverclanners... too easy a win." As if summoned by Stagsnarl's words, the sixth member of the patrol reveals himself to be nothing more than an apprentice. One with fighting words, no doubt, but all of Crowsmile's are fully trained warriors. Sparing him a glance, Crowsmile leans towards Stagsnarl to scoff, "Yeah, too easy, especially if the only ones with a little spine are just a loud-mouthed apprentice and a warrior who doesn't watch where she's stepping."

White paws carry him a few steps forward, breaking him away from his patrol, and Crowsmile waves his tail invitingly with a winning smile. "You want us to do something? Then by all means, come down off those rocks and give us a reason to!" His words are followed by a glance back in the coppery molly's direction, eyes returning to the original target of his challenge.
