pafp LIMINAL SPACE - bitterness

Gigglepaw doesn't think she's ever expressly disliked anyone, from ShadowClan or outside of it, for that matter. She's only ever seen chances to make friends, to grow alongside her peers and impress her superiors - after all, what good would it be to get into conflicts with Clanmates when they all had to live together and get along? But Salamandersnap was different, or at least had made herself so in light of recent events and the older she-cat's opinion on what happened.

To Gigglepaw, Smogstar might as well have hung the moon in the sky. She'd looked up to the tom since she'd been old enough to know what admiration was, following him around where she could and taking on mannerisms even to make herself more similar to him - stars, she'd even vowed to make frog eggs her favorite food in imitation of the former deputy, a point that she hadn't yet gotten around to making. And when Smogstar had disappeared, well... to say that Gigglepaw had been devastated might have been an understatement - though she was nowhere as near as close to Smogstar as his family and friends were, it was like having a piece of herself disappear with him. Salamandersnap's insinuations that he abandoned ShadowClan would not stand so long as Gigglepaw did.

Still, Gigglepaw was forced to get along with Salamandersnap as she did with the rest of her Clanmates, intertwined with her for better or worse. It didn't stop Gigglepaw from avoiding Salamandersnap when she could, though, and there were definitely times when she made a show of going out of her way to not have to speak with Salamandersnap - if it was childish of her, she didn't care. The real dissenter to ShadowClan was Salamandersnap the moment she'd decided to badmouth Smogstar.

Being forced on a patrol with Salamandersnap at the head might have been Gigglepaw's very idea of a nightmare, but she had no choice but to suck it up and go along with it. Resolute in her decision to dislike the older she-cat, Gigglepaw seemed frightfully out of character as she padded along, head down and a frown plastered on her usually-smiling face.

It seemed as if she would continue to be thrown at the head of patrols, leading yet another group of cats who had little admiration for her. Even if it were a fact that bothered her greatly, what was there that she could do about it? all she really could do was to ignore how she felt. Having no friends or even one cat who felt they could at the very least tolerate her was a burning, devastating feeling. of course she knew her bitterness drove everyone away, but she couldn't help the way that she had become. Even now, as she led the patrol silently through the territory, she gives her pelt a silent ruffle, dismissing the negative thoughts flooding her mind. "We'll start with checking near the Windclan border then we can hunt if we pick up any good scents as we head towards the Thunderclan border."

Sharpshadow obviously isn't Salamandersnap's biggest fan... But she isn't anyone's biggest fan, so her not chatting up a storm to the molly isn't all that weird. It's pretty extremely weird for Gigglepaw, though. And though she usually found Gigglepaw... inexplicable, incomprehensible, maybe even a bit annoying on some days; and— yeah, if they missed out on prey because she was talking all of their ears off, she'd be pretty damn mad... she kind of misses it. The ray of sunshine in this swamp, or... insert other ways to say ShadowClan was a bummer, and she made it a little less of a bummer. Gigglepaw had plenty of reasons to not be okay right now, but Sharpshadow hasn't seen any of the recent... happenings affect her too much so far. Not until now, that is.

She wonders if Gigglepaw's alright... Well... It isn't really his business if she isn't. ...But isn't it her business to care to check, at least? Salamandersnap hardly seems to notice. ...Or maybe she's just minding her business too. But minding his business can get cats killed. By now, Sharpshadow knows this. " You okay, Gigglepaw? " From the corner, of his eye, she'd glimpse her. ...Not like she wants to deny the apprentice the right to bad days, but it's just plainly... weird. " You've been pretty quiet. " Of course, maybe being quiet would be the difference between eating and not in a few moons...

Scalejaw can't say she favored Salamandersnap more then the next- and it was mostly because they butted heads. They didn't get along. Scalejaw couldn't find herself caring about that much more then the next might, but the fact that Gigglepaw's silence permeated where it normally frustrated was enough that even she was casting side-ways glances towards the apprentice. Yet, she follows on the patrol, silent as she keeps an eye out for anything.

Salamandersnap speaks on her plan- and Scalejaw is unfortunately agreeing with it. "Mm. Sounds good." She responds, only half here, half in her nest. Seriously, since when did she like to sleep so much? A breath left her, glowering eyes half lidded until Sharpshadow says something to the forlorn apprentice. Her head turned, vision briefly studying the pair of them. Sharpshadow was Smogstar's former apprentice, and Gigglepaw.. well, it was no secret of her admiring of the lost leader.

Her eyes shifted towards Sharpshadow after Gigglepaw, then back forward. Scalejaw wisely kept her words to herself, but her ear was cocked back towards the two to try and catch the conversation as she paced ahead with Salamandersnap.

Stonepaw followed along, eyes and ears on a swivel as they usually were. Of course he noticed Gigglepaw's demeanor. He hadn't exactly instilled himself in her life in a way that he felt he could ask, though. Maybe he was growing out of his "shoving others aside" attitude (literally, in Gigglepaw's case,) but he had yet to apologize. And didn't know if he ever would. That aside, it was unsettling to see her so... down-trodden. He appreciated Sharpshadow's intervention, at the very least.

He hadn't much of an opinion on Salamandersnap. They hadn't interacted really, outside of being physically near each other. He did appreciate her skill, however, and with his borderline militaristic view of authority, he respected her.

Who knows, maybe one of these days he'd get around to having a regular conversation with either of them. Today, clearly, was not that day.

Seemed like Basilpaw was the only one who hadn't noticed Gigglepaw unusual quietness..because in truth he was far to disinterested in her overall to really care. But, at least the two had a shared common interest of how none of them wished to be here in this patrol full of, ah, well, how to put it....self-egoistical jerks?. It cost him less to stay away from them anyway, so he did, obidently so as he walked far behind the rest minding his own business while hoping this patrol would go smoothly and be over soon under Salamandersnaps command.

With the instructions given out from Salamandersnap, the smoke padded along quietly as well as his own voice had got cut out from his own throat... but Sharpshadow caught thier attention with blinking eyes. Hah, what?. Since when has Sharpshadow ever cared about anyone but herself?. Why this sudden hypocricy... It was cruel of them to pretend to care...better leave poor Gigglepaw alone. He for sure wasn't gonna offer any comfort, or attempt to cheer someone up that he was convinced didn't even care about his existence.

Instead though, now when his attention was all catched and everything....thought out a more funny comment of his own to add into the spice. "Keep going like this and Mirestar might change ya name to Quietpaw or Frownpaw instead, hah!. " A snicker choked itself up from the bottom of his throat....teeth exposed through parted lips with eyes half narrowed.

*+:。.。 Bonechill didn't have many thoughts on Salamandersnap, but he had noticed right away Gigglepaw's disdain for the woman. His family was built on extroverts so it was a rare occasion when one of them picked an enemy - still, any of their foes were automatically his own, so Bonechill had decided to keep a close eye on Salamandersnap whenever the chance arose. Quietly, the wraith of a cat walked behind the patrol, watching each cat as they navigated the social bubble of their assigned patrol. Scalejaw, Salamandersnap and Stonepaw kept their focus on their steps while Sharpshadow and Basilpaw trained their attention on Gigglepaw. He watches his younger sister, agreeing with Sharpshadow on the rare sight of his chatty siblings being silenced. He'd yet to put the pieces together on what Salamandersnap had done, exactly, but the older brother's fur prickled with irritation as the patrol head paid little heed to the tension brewing behind her.

He does shoot Basilpaw a warning look. Teasing inched far too closely to bullying in Bonechill's mind, mainly when it was directed at his family.
