MONSTER MASH — trick

He waits.

Waits upon the bushes, bright eyes staring intently out at the pathway in front of him.

The early morning is foggy - vision deep into the forest diminished into frosty white hues and shadows. It's already unsettling enough. Already would be scary, if one were to get lost. But, Greenpaw is scheming, waiting for the perfect moment to strike, to scare whoever is to pass the foliage he's camped out in.

The apprentice's excitement is bubbling - oh, how funny will it be, when he leaps out! The adrenaline makes his waiting time feel longer, all patience within him waning. He isn't too sure how long he's sat there, how long he's been staring out behind leaves before he hears pawsteps, but, the moment he hears them he quickly ducks down further, quickly prepares to pounce.

He waits for the perfect moment, waits for the victim of his prank to align themself within his path. Three... Two... One!

"BOO!" Greenpaw shouts as loud as he can. He exits the bush in a leap forward at the unsuspecting feline, snowy forepaws outstretched.

Figpaw traveled too far away from @TALLULAHWING during their morning hunt. The girl was easily distractable, and when she began to track something it seemed nothing could snap her out of it. That is how the marmalade tabby found herself in the unfamiliar neck of the woods, doing her best to navigate through the thick fog.

Something about it all made her unnerved... she travels through the foliage, reluctantly placing one paw forward. She felt as if something was lurking in the shadows, watching her, it gave her the chills. Maybe it was that one shadow monst- "EEEK!: A flash of orange, a fox from the bush! Her life was surely over, she falls flat onto her rear in frieght and braces herself for the pain of sharp fangs. The girl trembles, knowing she would soon meet her ancestors...

But really, it was just her brother.

"SUREFIRE, YEAH, THE SETTING SUN WANTS COMPANY"
A mother’s eye missed very little. After setting out on an early patrol, Daisyflight had almost interrupted her son’s devious machinations. Almost. However, the larger-than-she-remembered russet tom looked to be enjoying himself. It was a game she had played as a kit, though a little more viciously than Greenpaw was. Claws could be afforded on the streets. It blot the briefest touch of pride in her heart, to know that her family was growing up in the safety of the clan. And, steeping in that sensation, the calico allowed it to take hold.

Halting behind a pair of pines, the deputy watched on. Despite her attempted nonchalance to the trickery, Daisyflight couldn’t help but hold her breath as the apprentice wound his leap. It was a glorious one at that, timed well. In the muddle of motion, she couldn’t quite see who had befallen the trap.

Stepping out, a snort unceremoniously left her. Tangled beneath Greenpaw was the sand-copper shape of Figpaw. "Well sprung!" Bright peals of laughter were muffled into the white ruff of her neck, nose leaned down to tap the two firmly on the side. "Don’t worry Figpaw, you’re safe.

Tallulahwing had leaned down to murmur, "Did you see where that bird landed? Show me how you track a --" Before realizing her apprentice and companion had disappeared altogether. She quirks a brow in frustration, bushy tail beginning to lash back and forth. "Oh, you just wanna be an apprentice forever, don't you! Can't sit and listen to anything without..."

Tallulahwing's grumbles turn into incoherent growls as she begins to search for Figpaw, but her brows knit together as she spots her apprentice's littermate instead. Ginger and white pelt stark against the pine bark, but he's stock-still, waiting.

His sister passes, a pale shape through the fog, and Greenpaw lunges for her. "BOO!"

Figpaw's response of "EEK!" causes Tallulahwing's scowl to dissolve. She cackles, giving Daisyflight a brief nod of acknowledgment as she emerges from her hiding place. "Greenpaw, you were right stealthy! Figpaw, on the other hand," Tallulahwing continues, ear flicking, "Could use a reminder in paying attention to her surroundings." She can't really be mad anymore, though, can she?

And...

He sticks the landing!

The apprentice might not be the greatest at hunting yet, but, hey! At least he caught someone! Scared them good too! Mischievous laughter erupts from the young tom as he looks down at his catch, looks down to see Figpaw beneath his paws. Oh, this was excellent!

"Gotcha!" he exclaims, viridescent eyes bright as he leaps off of his sister, "That was great! You should've seen your face!" Daisyflight and Tallulahwing appear, praising his leap, his stealth. Ha, he was getting good, wasn't he? He can't wait to tell Churrodream! The tom listens to his sister's mentor, to her words on what Figpaw needs to learn. Greenpaw sticks his tongue out at his sibling, an opportunity to tease her arising.

"Yeah, Figpaw. You gotta pay attention, next time."
