Pink-kit has traveled the world... Maybe more than anyone her age ever has which is very cool and impressive of her. Now that she's home, she can reflect... And bonus, her ShadowClan friend came with her! Now she can tell Halfkit about all the reasons WindClan was the best clan and especially better than stinky and smelly ShadowClan!

" Y'see Halflark? We don't have trees or leaves in WindClan! But in ThunderClan— I went there— all the leaves were orange and red which are not what color leaves are! And they were weird and crinkly all across the floor... " To illustrate her point, Pink-kit drags a paw across the sandy ground. "But how come ShadowClan has trees, but the leaves didn't fall? And they were also very ugly. I think, um, this is proof that ShadowClan is the absolute worst! The crinkling was weird.... but it was very fun. You can't taunt me with leaves but not let me crinkle them, you know? Good thing Sootstar saved you..."

  A tiny, longhaired calico she - kit with yellow eyes, ringed blue around her pupils (sectoral heterochromia). While you can clearly see her flame markings on her face, the rest of her body is currently covered by a grey fever - coating. Though the whites of her are still very much visible. Pink-kit bounces around WindClan without a care in the world! Her emotions are big, and she makes little effort to regulate them, resulting in both her usually cheerful disposition, as well as making her prone to sudden bouts of extreme anger or sadness. Rarely seen without a smile!

[Halfsun]

If Halfkit were being honest, and that is rare for her these days, she does not mind ShadowClans camp. She likes the way the light dances through pines, dappling the camp in bursts of sunshine. She likes to look up at the canopy of branches above their heads and watch birds flit about from branch to branch, likes to listen to them call to each other in those sing song voices of theirs. WindClan has birds too, but they are not the same as the ones from her birthplace.

Still, when Pink-kit talks she finds herself leaning in to listen, eyes wide with fascination as her friend describes the other clans camp. She cannot help but wonder if maybe one day she would see ThunderClan too. And why not? If she was here perhaps one day she would also end up there, and hopefully Pink-kit would come with her so that she could show her around. "Wow! That sounds awesome.." she finds herself truly meaning her words, if there were leaves all over the ground her and Pink-kit could pile them together and hide in the piles, they could jump out and scare anyone who walked by.

She comments too about how ShadowClans trees were ugly and how they didn't drop their leaves and Halfkit - Lark-kit now, only nods "Im glad Sootstar saved me too, I missed being able to play with your stinky butt and here I'll be loved even if I'm an orphan, Sootstar told me so" and then she reaches out and with one paw she playfully pushes her fellow kit. So what if she spoke a few lies? So what if she still didn't know the meaning of the word 'orphan' an adult had said she was one and so she must be. Maybe it is because shes an orphan that Ashenpaw hates her, or that Garlicpaw gets so sad sometimes. She doesn't like when Garlicpaw is sad. A small part of her does feel worried then, would Garlicpaw be sad she was gone? Surely Granitepelt had told everyone where she was going right? These thoughts are troubling to her so quickly she changes the subject "Whats like the deal with the trees here? Do you guys just not have any at all? Where do the birds sleep at night?" she wonders if the birds here have homes, and she hopes that they do. She knows that if she didn't have a home she would be terribly sad.

[RATTLEHEART]

Though Rattleheart was far from happy about "Lark-kit" and "Ouzelkit" being present in the Windclan camp, theh didn't blame the children themselves. They had no way of knowing what was truly going on, or what kind of schemes they could have been being used in. The tunneler's ire was focused towards Sootstar and those that supported her reckless actions, not the kits that had been dragged unwillingly into plans far bigger than they were. That was why they wore a small smile on their muzzle as they approached the pair, keeping a fair amount of distance still for their own safety. Cure or not, Rattleheart could still feel the fangs of yellowcough sunk into their body for now.

Their smile faltered somewhat, though, when they caught what Pink-kit was saying. They may have felt no real love for Shadowclan beyond some gratefulness for recent events, but every part of this felt wrong. It didn't seem likely that a youngling like Pink-kit was intentionally turning "Lark-kit" against her former clan, but her words helped with that goal all the same. "The trees of Shadowclan are definitely very different, but I'm not sure that makes them ugly. Like how many of us have different pelts." Their voice was still so hoarse that it made them wince, and they could only hope it didn't startle either of the two.

Where do the birds sleep at night? The innocent and concerned question brings the smile back to Rattleheart's face, chuckling as they let their tail drape over their paws. "There are trees at the edges of the territory, but our moors are open to the wind to carry us. Most of the birds still sleep up in those trees, though... I do know of some birds that'll make their homes in burrows underground." Uncannily like their fellow tunnelers in a way, though they hardly felt the same great deal of affection for burrowing owls.

[SCORCHSTAR]

Alongside Rattleheart trots the dirt-dappled tunneler, golden eyes narrowing as their gaze settles on the pair of kits. Larkkit and Pinkkit talk about the trees and the changing of leaves, and the tunneler is reminded of just how young they are. The blue and white kit informs the other that she is an orphan—because Sootstar told her so—and Scorchstreak's expression twists into gentle disapproval. What else had Sootstar told these kits, true or untrue? Are the claims of ShadowClan's mistreatment in fact false, simple lies fed into the ears of impressionable kits snatched from their mother too early?

No matter. No one will speak out against Sootstar's decision if they know what is good for them. Even if the lead warrior doesn't agree with removing kits from their parents, she will not speak against the wisdom of forcing such a change on kits so young. And she certainly will not speak against angering yet another clan—it seems Sootstar is intent on continuing to fight the other clans, even after Scorchstreak has spent the past month and a half working alongside cats of other clans to ensure the safety of all the clans.

Thankfully, Scorchstreak doesn't need to answer the kits' questions, because Rattleheart is quick to respond with their own reasonable answers. But there is hesitation in her sibling's words, a degree of favorability given to the marshland clan that she thinks Sootstar would not agree with. "Oh, you must admit that ShadowClan's trees are a bit ugly, though," she says lightly, with a playful flicker of her tail. "But that doesn't mean that ShadowClan is awful. They merely have different lands than us. They aren't blessed like WindClan."​

Half-lark. Immediately Featherkit rolled his eyes. Pink-kit was as oblivious as ever it seemed, even after going through a terrifying event, an upheaval that Pink-kit had admitted she hat hated. Why did she still pretend to be happy all the time? Or was she so ant-brained that she didn't realised the gravity of it? And- she was already tripping up, a secret slipping out of her lips that was poorly corrected. "It's Lark-kit, rock-head." Featherkit had not the patience for all of this. If Pink-kit kept tripping up, the word would spread- and if she gave anything away she'd be punished, Sootstar had warned them. I'll know who to look into first, the smoky leader had said.

Lark-kit seemed not to be bothered, though. They were made for each other, these two- one as willing to go along with anything as the other. Featherkit worried for how they'd thrive in apprenticeship- inevitably, they were going to get themselves hurt. Nothing could convince Featherkit otherwise. She knew the world was swollen with danger- gnashing rogues, hunger, plague. Maybe Lark-kit would be bettor off in WindClan, but she would have to make an effort, and... Featherkit was already despairing at her prospects, if this conversation was anything to go by. "Most of the birds sleep on our fresh-kill pile. You should be worrying about where you sleep." Disparaging, her tone was ice-sharp. With no trees, they slept beneath the stars, and it was beautiful when they managed to light the sky up enough. ​

" It was very cool! " she agrees with Halflark. Of course, if she were still in ThunderClan, she'd say it was just okay, but now that she's here she could admit that the loved the crinkling... and the redness, even if it was all wrong.

Featherkit very unhelpfully swoops in to tell her it's Lark-kit. " I knew that! " she snaps. ( She totally forgot, but she was like, half right! ). " And i am not a rock - head! My butt isn't stinky, either! " Pink-kit adds importantly, the offense taken clear in her voice. She could not believe that her friends were turning against her already! It's cool that Lark-kit would still be loved as an orphan, though. Whatever that means.

Where do the birds sleep at night? Pink-kit opens her mouth to answer, but she just ends up gaping instead cause she doesn't even know, either! Maybe the birds here lived in holes? She perks up when she sees warriors approaching, because this was clearly a question only the biggest and smartest cats would know the answer to. The trees of Shadowclan are definitely very different, but I'm not sure that makes them ugly. " I am! " Pink-kit chirps. Case closed! Pink-kit does't listen to what the rest of what they say because this cat clearly wasn't very smart.

Oh, you must admit that ShadowClan's trees are a bit ugly, though. Pink-kit nods enthusiastically in agreement. This one— this warrior was super smart. Pink-kit could tell because she had pretty black and orange fur just like her and her mom! But that doesn't mean that ShadowClan is awful. Pink-kit squints, her, " Really? " being very genuine. They aren't blessed like WindClan. " Soo... Not awful, just worse? " She could get behind that, she supposes.

Featherkit is funny. Like, the funniest, when she isn't totally bullying her by making up complete LIES about her. Pink-kit giggles with what he says, and then gasps, recalling a story. " I heard about killer birds! Super big ones that could even gobble up a cat! Are those real? "

[SCORCHSTORM]

"They're very real," Scorchpaw informs, sidling up to the conversation shortly after Pink-kit asks her question. Cherrypaw, Little Wolf, and Bobbie had all been accosted by the things– to varying degrees of severity. Behind her eyes flashes the image of the small black body, strewn out in the snow, broken with all of ThunderClan crowding it in their grief. Would WindClan do the same for Scorchpaw, if she were to die that way? At least Cherrypaw and Bobbie had survived. Scorchpaw's tail flicks and she supplies evidence for her claim, "I had to fight one on the journey. It was so huge, it blotted out the sun with its wings."

Her gaze settles soft on Lark-kit then. A ShadowClan kit, apparently, who had been brought to WindClan for... what? Would she really be better taken care of here than in the dense pines? She knows the girl's father, though the connection has not been made; Smogmaw seemed like a fine cat to care for his children, and the rest of the ShadowClanners had been kind, too. Was Sootstar's claim of their mistreatment really true? Had she been telling the truth about Badgermoon, all that time ago? But she must have been– Scorchpaw has sworn off any semblance of love for her father, and it's because he betrayed her and his Clan so easily.

Her gaze floats then to WindClan's open expanse of moorland. Thank StarClan she's back here– she couldn't take dense forests for one more pawstep. The leaves on the journey had already begun to turn vibrant jasper, mottled like her own pelt and the pelt of other mollies she'd come to know. She wonders how Iciclefang is doing in Riverclan; she wonders if she will see Cherrypaw at the next gathering. But that sort of reminiscing wouldn't do her much good now. Scorchpaw returns her focus to the kittens at her paws, ears twitching with a vague sense of warmth and unease. "There's lots of big birds like that, so you better be careful. They'd swallow you whole."

[breezerunner]

Orphan. The word hangs heavy over Breezerunner's head like a crown forged from lead and grief. The loss of his own parents left a great impression on the moor runner, but he had been mid-apprenticeship when he'd lost them unlike the fresh age Larkkit had been brought to them at. He'd been able to put his head down and focus on his training. The only thing he found himself strongly interested in was learning to fight and obsessing over his siblings' well-being. That obsession had driven the hard wedge between them all, and that damage called all the way back to the loss of their mother and father. How much could have been different if they hadn't passed?

He is grateful to see that Larkkit seems largely unaffected, bouncing around with Pinkkit and making friends. He feels a pang of guilt, too. How could he have ever doubted Sootstar if she rescued this sweet ShadowClan kit and her sibling from abandonment? Breezerunner cannot imagine a similar fate befalling any WindClan cat. "Not awful, just worse," he agrees aloud, a rare bout of amusement simmering in his mouth "WindClan doesn't rely on trees and foliage to conceal and protect us."

Breezerunner pivots his attention to Scorchpaw. His attention is torn two ways, but he suppresses the self-centered sadness that fills his gut and looks instead to the tortoiseshell. "You fought one?" his voice is incredulous as he echoes the apprentice's statement in a question "How?" It isn't that Breezerunner doesn't believe Scorchpaw, but rather that he's never seen one of the large predatory birds come close enough to anyone in WindClan to make contact. That seems like more of something that would happen somewhere with more trees. Breezerunner is a little nervous they could be able to swallow him too.

They don't miss ThunderClan or ShadowClan. They remember Leopardtongue and Fallow, who had followed them to ShadowClan. She'd clung to them like a scratchy little leaf stuck in their pelt, so similar to the golden-reds of ThunderClan's strange territory. Fallow had said that it didn't miss ThunderClan either, that it wasn't its home at all, which was a strange thing to think about. How could a kit not be of its clan? Lark-kit and Ouzelkit are not of WindClan either, they suppose, but the way Lark-kit is with Pink-kit makes them feel like it isn't as big of a deal as Fallow made it out to be. But maybe they're just different. Everyone is saying that ShadowClan and ThunderClan trees are ugly, and Downykit must agree. They don't like trees at all, really. The constant rustling gets annoying, not like the constant rustling of the moorgrass, of course.

Downykit arrives just on the tail end of the conversation, rounded ears pricking at the chance to join in. Pink-kit and Featherkit are squabbling again, but not really, because Pink-kit never seems all that mad about it and Featherkit is mad all the time, which has to get tiring at some point, right? He can't be mad all the time either, and yet Downykit stays away from her all the same. Lark-kit is a lot like Pink-kit, they've found. "Birds of a feather," or whatever they say. Funny, then, that they were talking about birds and trees and birds as big as trees...Downykit tries their best to keep up.

A tabbied tom says that WindClan doesn't need trees to protect them. Glancing around the refortified gorse walls, Downykit might consider true. But the rogues had broken through it so easily, as they had ThunderClan's. It inspires another twinge of nervousness in their belly, and they wish that he hadn't said that. What if the rogues came back to prove him wrong?

Then, a strange calico cat they've never seen before tells Pink-kit's she actually right for once! Downykit blinks at the stranger, amazed. "There are birds bigger than the sun?" they question, eyes growing wide. "Did you eat it after you fought it?" they continue, knowing birds are for eating and nothing else. "Maybe they only live in trees, and that's why ShadowClan's trees are ugly, 'cause they're not blessed and have killer birds living in them," they conclude, shuddering at the thought.​

 

[Morningsong~]

Morningsong finds the conversation about trees amusing. He has to agree, the oak forest was much prettier than the marsh. It was also not as mucky as the marsh. And wet. And it didn't have rats that maul you. What an awful place. Why do cats even LIVE THERE. Though he supposes it can't be too bad, after all, some of his clanmates lived there before the clans and did so for a long time. He looks to the kit now known as Larkkit. For a kit who's been neglected and treated poorly, she sure didn't look like it.

But he can't say anything. Sootstar's fan club will go rabid and start spouting their lunacy.

The topic of birds though, brings a lesson to be taught. He believes Scorchpaw when she speaks of birds big enough to blot out the sun. He's seen hawks swoop and catch mice before, and he's heard stories of the hawks that were big enough to prey on Windclan itself.

"Always keep an eye on the sky. Hawks hunt here too, and we must always be careful." He says. He doesn't intend to scare them, only give advice. After all, they would be out on the moors soon too.

He does wonder though.... What does a hawk taste like? He looks to Scorchedpaw after after Downykit asks their question. Did they eat the bird???

"Most birds do live in trees!" He says to Downykit. "There are some birds who nest on the ground, though. Sometimes you'll see there eggs in the fresh kill pile."​

 

[RUMBLERAIN]

"Eggs are nice," Rumblepaw supplies as they join the little group. It's not much of a statement, their attention focused on the swaying trees off in the distance of their mind. It's comforting to be back under the sky, StarClan's indifferent sentinels shining far above their head during the night, but the sheer colours around them in ThunderClan's forest had been fascinating, even if a little overwhelming. They do agree ShadowClan's trees had been dull, but the monotonous green had been less of an assault to the eyes. Rattleheart likens the different types of trees to the different pelts they all wear, and with a small hum the apprentice finds they agree with the assessment. That's a nice thought.

Less nice, however, is the sun-blotting bird that Scorchpaw describes, and Rumblepaw's ears fall back at their sister's description. Hawks are bad enough, but a bird big enough to shadow the sun? They'd never want to hunt again. They shudder, and turn their attention back towards the older WindClanners present.
