pafp NO MORE SOLDIERS [ ★ ] PATROL LEAVING

p1qCnee.jpeg

After the meeting, a lot had been on Bluepool's mind. That night, when she had gone to sleep, she had stared and stared and stared at the bundled up form next to her and she had imagined that brilliant fiery coat turning dull, had pictured the gaunt look of starvation hollowing out her ribs and making her look even smaller than she already was. Her love wasting away haunts her waking moments and there is no reprieve in her sleep either. Nightmares of her whole clan starving plague her dreams and her mate stands at the forefront of them, begging her to do something with a voice cracked with hunger, begging her to save them. When Bluepool wakes up she immediately knows what must be done.

She goes out on her customary morning run, legs stretching across the moors as she races the dawn light. She goes on her assigned border patrol, dutifully leaving her scent behind in the reeds that separate WindClan from their fish-breathed neighbors across the way and as she looks over to their side of the territory, a plan forms in her mind. They had so much... surely they wouldn't notice...

When she gets back to WindClan she immediately makes a decree. "I'm going on a hunting patrol. Dimmingsun, Slateheart, will you two accompany me?" she asks as she approaches the two warriors, sitting idle with nothing else to do. She would reveal her real plan to them on the way but for now... Her golden eyes shine with a certain mischief when they accept and she tells them Wait here, I'll be right back and we'll go" and then she turns to find her mate.

Scorchstreak is most beautiful in the pre-dawn light she decides. When golden hour is descending upon the moors and bathes her in it's golden hues. Not to say that she doesn't think she is the most beautiful cat, regardless, but there is something about this moment that makes Bluepool pause, her heart skipping a beat at the sight of that flame-touched pelt. When she catches her gaze she breaks from her spell, a warm smile spreading across her features. "I'm going out again" she says, her voice regretful as she leans forwards to touch her nose to the deputies cheek "But I promise I'll be home in time to share tongues and eat dinner before bed. I love you."

BLUEPOOL WINDCLAN LEAD WARRIOR ; SHE / HER ; SISTER TO SOOTSTAR & MINTSHADE
A small framed moor runner with a blue toned pelt and black stripes. Her tail is cropped and her eyes are golden in color. On her chest, she sports a large 'X' shaped scar.
Difficult in battle. A skilled fighter + isn't above using dirty tricks in order to win

༄༄ The leader's acknowledgment of WindClan's struggles with prey had not come as a surprise. The moorland has hardly begun to recover, and with even more kits born into the clan, hunger has not yet struck—but it will soon become an issue. Scorchstreak had pushed the concern to the back of her mind, something to be ignored. Facing it means admitting to her own fear. Rattleheart and her kits will be well fed no matter what scarcity they encounter; Bluepool, however, will not. The calico cannot bear to think of her love facing true starvation, and besides, she knows what WindClan must do eventually. If the clan reaches desperate times, Scorchstreak would gladly take to the tunnels beneath ShadowClan once again. But for now… she will wait. Tensions still run taut between WindClan and their neighbors; ThunderClan is perhaps the only option they can blatantly steal from without worsening what is already festering. She thinks of Sootstar, of the thousand bridges the mad queen had burned—and thinks of how she had nearly burned WindClan down along with them. No, she has decided. Sunstar has suggested breaking the code, but doing so aboveground is not yet an option. She will not send warriors off to the same battles she had nearly died in, just to avoid a fate that may not yet befall the clan.

There is a lot on Scorchstreak's mind, yet she manages to shove it aside. Her sleep is uninterrupted, her worries soothed by the brushing of blue fur against her own. Her mate, her love, her Bluepool, allows a good night's rest no matter the circumstances. Nowhere else has she felt more safe, more loved, than when she is curled gently into her mate's side. She is pulled reluctantly from the comfort of her sleep, however, when the lead warrior leaves the nest to begin her daily routine. The deputy finds tasks to perform around camp, taking care of duties here before she is to leave for her own patrols. And if she is also killing time and waiting for Bluepool's return, then no one but herself needs to know that.

Soon enough, she spots the silvered fur of her mate reentering the camp, and waits for Bluepool to finish speaking to a couple warriors before she approaches. Golden eyes lift to gaze at her beloved, a smile brightening her muzzle. Bluepool has not been back in camp for long, but she announces that she will be going back out already. Scorchstreak does not particularly enjoy the idea of her mate spending the entire day outside of camp, but still she greets the other she-cat with an affectionate, "My love," before leaning her cheek softly into Bluepool's touch. "I hope your hunting goes well. You'd best be back by sundown," she says, softness entering her voice as she teases her mate. But she does not wish to keep the other from her duty for long—she presses her forehead against the lead warrior's in an affectionate nuzzle, and then offers a flicker of her tail. "Now, go on. I love you. I'll be waiting here for you."

The threat of prey shortage had been on Dimmingsun's mind even before Sunstar called everybody's attention to it, but voicing it aloud still seems different. He imagines it sits on his Clanmates' shoulders like some sort of bad omen... always a little bit present. They can keep trying to send out more and more patrols, but if the moors are still in a dire state, then the amount of prey on their land does not depend on them. Plus, he thinks, bitter, we might overhunt. It's a delicate balance; give nature some time to recover but work tirelessly to feed the hungry. It might as well be leaf-bare with how bad the situation has gotten, despite the warm weather suggesting otherwise.

When Bluepool asks him and Slateheart on a patrol, it's not a decision to be made. Of course he will go. He needs to see it with his own eyes so he can draw conclusions himself, rather than any concerned conversation that might hit his ears in camp.

He diverts his attention from the love hearts flying between Scorchstreak and Bluepool. It's not the first time he does so.

"Reckon we'll have any luck?" Dimmingsun searches Slateheart's gaze. It's good to have his friend back — not just for his own selfish reasons, but also due to the talent his fellow moor-runner possesses. "I don't plan on coming home empty-pawed."

The other Clans would perpetually have better luck than WIndClan, Featherspine was sure. What was meant to be a bountiful season, the best for hunting... for the moor Clan it was still raked with envy and hunger. Sunstar's call to take from the other Clans was a risky command, of course... but WindClan had to be fed. Secretly, Featherspine hoped that Bluepool may ask him to accompany her... there was part of her that missed hunting side-by-side. But of course there was no need to bring him, anymore... and so, she didn't.

Slateheart and Dimmingsun, instead. Whatever... Featherspine's eyes flicked toward the both of them, settling in a slight concoction of broiling envy for a moment. Well. There would, logically, be other hunting patrols... she did not have to be on Bluepool's.

The public display of affection, very typical for his former mentor and their deputy, earned a roll of the eyes from Featherspine- though there was something subtle upon his lips, the tiniest quirk of a smile. "There'll b-be plenty of time to c-cuddle and c-congratulate yourself later," Featherspine reminded the silver she-cat with a tilt of the head as she walked past. Deep in his voice, there was an almost playful sort of protectiveness, as well as his advisory urging.

TIme was of the essence, though... Bluepool was fast, talented. If she tore herslef from her mate's side for a second, he was sure they'd have very much to be pleased about tonight. And Featherspine might mange to say hello, too. And that would be it.

So... tunnelers and moor runners didn't patrol together often. That didn't mean they couldn't be friends! After all, how would Bluepool and Scorchstreak have ever become the best couple ever? While Pinkpaw seeks out Scorchstreak on purpose, Featherspine is here even though he doesn't have to be anymore, and it's like things are normal again! A friendly wave of the tail is offered to her and Dimingsun both. " Do they do this every morning? " she mews in comment. Going, I love you and stuff before every patrol. " It's soooooo romantic! " Pinkpaw wanted to have what they have someday!

Unconsciously, she's bouncing in place, tail falling into a steady one - two rhythm. " I think, with the power of your loooove, you're gonna catch, like, a dozen rabbits! " That's all the moors needed right now, even if they were a little bit singed... The flowers would bloom right as Bluepool walks by, and all the silly rabbits would be lured out by the lovely smell... Obviously, that's not real... but it'd be cool if it was, wouldn't it?

The others seem bothered - affectionately disturbed by the interaction. Periwinklebreeze thinks its sweet - to have someone who loves you so much. To see them every day, to be assured of your affection for one another. He's all but looking at them with heart eyes as Bluepools patrol gets ready to leave, flashing a faint smile of his own in his former mentor's direction. Pinkpaw is right though - surely, such motivation could only boost ones confidence and hunting skills? Working to feed his own kits (however brief it'd been before his sudden change of rank) had certainly lit a fire within him. it can't be much different.
