Sootstar stares at the ThunderClanner’s impatiently, eager to gauge their reactions. Apprentices begin to whisper, one even into the own ears of Howlingstar, her ears pin upward to try and listen in, but she instantly loses her focus as another apprentice loudly calls her the mad one.

Green eyes narrow tightly, how ill-mannered! Sootstar offers this feline’s clan support and he dares to insult her? Luckily Howlingstar knows how to properly deal with out of place apprentices, respect and appreciation for the tabby she-cat flows through her. If she had been the ThunderClan leader, however, she’s pretty sure she would’ve sent the apprentice off with a good smack on an ear for good measure. ”Apprentices,” Sootstar snorts as a ThunderClan lead warrior escorts them back home, ”We have a pair of ill-mannered ones back at home too. I remember still wearing kitten fluff and being featherbrained, but good StarClan if I spoke some of the way these cats do… Soot Claw would’ve knocked me upside the head.” She reminisces as if talking to an old friend, but she knows that Howlingstar and herself are far from that. They would never be soldiers together again, it was only solidified when Howlingstar reveals her answer.

ThunderClan will stand independent. Something she respects, but of course this is not the answer she was hoping for. There is a brief pause from Sootstar after Howlingstar concludes, tension swells in the air but the blue smoke swiftly breaks it with a nod. ”That is something I can respect.“ Sootstar thinks Howlingstar’s avoidance of enemies is naive, especially if she was going to fight Cicadastar back on his hold for Sunning Rocks. She keeps her maw shut, WindClan will just have to wait and see, at least this would save her clan from one certain battle. ”…If you ever change your mind you know where to find us.”

Her tail flicks dismissively to her patrol and she begins to turn her paws from the border, ”WindClan will pray for ThunderClan’s victory. Until the next full moon, Howlingstar.”

The patrol vanishes into the heather.

As an apprentice, Stormpaw was being taught many things by Owlear—all specifics like hunting, patrolling, and fighting. However, there was no greater teacher than experience. Stormpaw felt herself shocked into awe in the presence of two leaders. Howlingstar was usually a cat on her own terms that harnessed respect from the torbico. Sootstar, even if she had been loud at the gathering, also commanded this respect over the very young cat.

So she lowered her face for the duration of it. Her ears pricked when Shallowpaw made a comment that was swiftly rebuked by Howlingstar, resulting in the apprentice being forced away. Stormpaw kept her own jaws shut and her pelt burned with secondhand embarrassment when Sootstar commented on.

Just as the WindClan patrol vanished, Stormpaw exhaled loudly, having held in a breath she did not realize she was holding. "That was scary." She whispered.

❪ TAGS ❫ — As much as Snakepaw is encouraged by his parents to pay attention to when adults discuss important manners, especially pertaining to politics, he finds himself zoning in and out of the drawl shared between Howlingstar and Sootstar.

He specifically sneered toward Shallowpaw, who blatantly insulted Sootstar right where she stood. Snakepaw wasn't one to talk when it came to having manners, but anyone who dared speak like that to the Moorland Queen was an idiotic fool! Oh, how his paws itched to drive himself at the ThunderClan apprentice and bowl him to the ground, but Howlingstar had ordered him and his mentor away shortly after.

Howlingstar declines Sootstar's offer, insisting that ThunderClan could fight its own battles. The brown tabby she-cat seemed level-headed enough but it was obvious what the rest of her clan thought of Sootstar and WindClan judging by their expressions, whisperings, and blunt comments. There would be no conflict here today, though there is an awkward tension that Snakepaw could feel lingering in the air around them.

Sootstar beckons for the patrol to leave. "Hmph." Snakepaw lifted his tail into the air and turned to stalk off.

Reactions: SOOTSTAR
Her first mission as an apprentice is to accompany Sootstar to ThunderClan's border. Bluepaw is silent during the trek to the wooded area that marks the beginning of their neighbors' territory, but she marvels at the different scents that begin to prick her nostrils. ThunderClan's territory is not altogether unpleasant, though there's a murkiness to their scent line that she cannot place. Something muddled and secret. There are plants and scents she's never encountered before, and Bluepaw aims to take it all in with wide, rarely-blinking emerald eyes.

Soon, the stop, and Bluepaw sits with her thick tail wrapped about her tiny paws. She is Sootstar's brighter shadow, though their expressions differentiate them enough. Sootstar is confident her trip will prove fruitful. Bluepaw is still, afraid even to breathe too hard. She does not want to make an error on her first excursion to another Clan's borders. She does not want to cost her mother anything important.

The first tom who appears is thick-furred, gray. His greeting is diplomatic. Bluepaw is very still as she watches him. She cannot show her fear, but she is alert as more ThunderClanners appear, more than she'd ever expected would be on a border patrol. She can spot some apprentices, too, though only one looks her age -- a gray tortoiseshell with blue eyes. Bluepaw studies her, though her expression does not soften. It is a blatant stare.

After what seems like eons, the ThunderClan leader herself arrives. She is massive compared to Sootstar, and Bluepaw is tempted to shrink away -- but she dares not. What would her mother think? She forces herself to sit beside the WindClan leader, forces her jaw not to tremble. They are talking about ShadowClan again -- she tries to listen, tries to understand. Sootstar says she is not looking for an alliance, but a truce. It makes sense.

And then two cats begin to speak out of turn. Apprentices. Bluepaw looks upon their faces with surprise. Does ThunderClan not teach their apprentices to listen to their superiors without interruption? And the comments they make... about her mother! Bluepaw visibly bristles, and if Sootstar had not been sitting beside her, she would have said something to make the blue smoke cuff her hard.

Bluepaw cannot focus on the rest of the discussion -- she watches a big red tabby lead the disrespectful cat away. He called my mother mad. She isn't mad. She isn't at all. Bluepaw has seen Sootstar mad, and this is quite tame for her. And evil!

The discussion draws to a close, and Bluepaw realizes she forgot to listen to the rest of it. She'll have to ask her mother about what it all meant later. WindClan begins to take their leave, but Bluepaw throws another look at the ThunderClan warriors behind them before she does. Her feathery cheeks and the stunning snap of her green eyes would make it clear she is Sootstar's progeny as well as her apprentice.

"She is not evil. She is blessed by StarClan." Shadows gather in the green pools of her eyes before she lifts her tail and follows her Clanmate back to their moorland.
