It's their big day!
Wolfkit's flowing dawn-and-dusk fur is impeccably shiny, groomed to perfection as Hawkkit's is. She'd even forgone the accessories that Hawkkit often helped her procure (though she thinks hopefully of wearing them when she becomes a warrior, perhaps) for the sake of the ceremony. It's not every day that kits become apprentices, and she only gets the one shot at it, she's pretty sure, so it's best to look... her best. After all of Howlfire's fussing, she supposes it is at least right to keep herself tidy, anyway.
She'd chattered with her littermates about potential mentors before. Many of SkyClan's greatest warriors had apprentices already, but many of them still had none, and they were all cool, weren't they? Wolfkit's head spun with possibility. Maybe she'd get Orangeblossom! That would be crazy, 'cause Orangeblossom was so cool and strong. Or maybe she'd get Bobbie, who was soft and sweet, or Tigerscar, who was sort of scary but probably good at warrior stuff.
But for all of her imagining, only now would she know the reality of her future: she would be mentored by Figfeather!
Wolfkit — no, Wolfpaw — beams up at the marmalade she-cat. They touch noses while Wolfpaw's feathery, silk-sheen tail wags fervently behind her. I'll teach you all I know, she says, and Wolfpaw nods. "I'm ready!" she yips in response. Maybe they'd start their training right after the meeting? Or, well, she'd probably have to move her den first....
Wolfpaw spares her littermates an excited glance, plumed chest puffing out as they receive their own mentors. She can't ignore the small ember of jealousy that sparks across her chest when Hawkpaw gets their very own mother as her mentor, but really, she couldn't be happier with her own assignment. Figfeather was so cool and strong, and she's always heard good things about the sunshine-pelted warrior from other cats. Bobbie was a cool mentor, too, she thinks — she grins widely at Blazingpaw, ears twitching. They'd be the best apprentices ever.
