This is a living document! if any changes to the rules are made, staff will make an announcement so everyone is aware
1. BE COMPASSIONATE AND RESPECTFUL TO MEMBERS AND STAFF.
Though we do our best to ensure that our rules act as a concise and thorough guideline as to the sort of behavior we expect, we understand that there is no way to encompass every possible scenario. Please do not try to find loopholes in the rules and be understanding of the environment we are trying to forge. This rule is the primary focus of our site and what we stand for: be kind and understanding to one another, and ensure that others are treated with the respect and compassion they deserve as people.
This courtesy should be extended to staff. Respect the mods and admins and remember this is a volunteer gig. We have put hours of time, lots of money, and loads of effort into our site and we expect our guidelines and rules to be followed and respected. All of this to say, if a staff member asks you to stop doing something, please stop. If we say no to something, please respect it. If you disagree with a decision, we encourage you to open a support ticket with us! Civil, polite conversations are always appreciated; rudeness is not tolerated and will not get you far. We are people too, and it’s okay if you don’t agree with every decision we make when running our site, but we ask that if you choose to be here, you respect us and our rules. In turn, we will always strive to serve our members with the respect they deserve!
2. TABBY TALES IS 18+ SITE.
We require our members to be a minimum of 18 years of age to join the site and Discord server. This is simply due to the mature themes that may be encountered. If we learn you are under 18, you will be banned until the date of your 18th birthday (to the best of our knowledge).
──── Users who joined before our the end of our poll on March 20th, 2024, have been grandfathered in. We do not wish to force anyone away from this site and the community they have helped build. We only want to ensure that going forward, this is a userbase that all our users, staff team included, are comfortable in.
3. BULLYING, HARRASSMENT, AND GOSSIP ARE NOT ALLOWED.
We want everyone to be comfortable on Tabby Tales. Any targeting behavior about members of our site will be handled accordingly. Racism, sexism, homophobia/transphobia, etc. is not tolerated! We also ask that you do not spread rumors about other members. If a tense situation cannot be handled in a civil manner by all parties, bring it to staff to assist you.
4. KEEP ALL CONTENT NONSEXUAL AND SFW.
Names, icons, pictures/gifs/links, or messages that are inappropriate will be removed and proper action will be taken. This extends to IC as well as OOC content– sexually suggestive or explicit dialogue, thoughts, or interactions are subject to staff action.
5. BE AWARE OF SENSITIVE TOPICS.
Though our site is 18+, we still maintain a safe space for minors. Please be aware of the content you are posting in public spaces and how it may affect those who are younger– if it is not something you would want a minor to hear, please do not discuss it. This includes discussions of sexual assault, child pornography, or other violence to minors.
6. DO NOT USE ARTWORK OR DESIGNS THAT YOU DO NOT OWN WITHOUT EXPLICIT PERMISSION FROM THE ARTIST.
This is not allowed! You must have explicit permission to use another individual’s artwork. If it’s art you have not done yourself or commissioned or a design you do not own, do not use it! If you suspect this is being done, please reach out to staff.
7. THE USE OF PARODY CHARACTERS OR CHARACTERS FROM CANON MATERIAL IS NOT ALLOWED.
While this may not be a serious hobby for some, Tabby Tales offers an environment where roleplayers put a lot of care, time, and thought into their plots, writing, and character creation. Disrupting this setting with characters that aren’t meant or able to be taken seriously as characters is banned. This includes but isn’t limited to: creating parody characters, roleplaying canon characters, hijacking other people’s threads with these sorts of characters, etc.
──── Do not use the names of plot-relevant canon characters for your original characters. Canon characters who are IMPORTANT to the main story or OTHERWISE MEMORABLE include cats like Fireheart, Graystripe, Mistyfoot, Brokentail, Tigerclaw, Breezepelt, Squirrelflight, Sorreltail, Goldenflower, etc.
──── Canon characters who are unimportant to the main story do not count (ex: Rainwhisker, Minnowtail, Sootfur)
8. NO A.I. GENERATED ART.
A.I. generated art is not allowed on Tabby Tales. We have many artists in our community, and many of us are heavily involved with the artist community outside of TT as well. To be respectful of their (and everyone's) art, we will not allow A.I. art to be posted in TT spaces or used as character references past 01.06.23.
9. NO CLIQUE BEHAVIOR.
We take this very seriously on Tabby Tales. It’s fine and encouraged to make friends on-site and on the Discord, but when it gets to the point where you are excluding other members and making them feel left out, you are exhibiting clique behavior. If you notice this happening, please reach out to staff so they can address the issue. If you are participating in a clique, staff will take action.
10. NO ADVERTISING OTHER ROLEPLAYING SITES.
If your website is not an official affiliate, do not advertise it, either in the Discord or on the boards. At this time, Tabby Tales is not accepting affiliates. Likewise, please do not advertise Tabby Tales in spaces where others do not allow it!
11. ONLY ONE MAIN ACCOUNT AND ONE ALTERNATIVE ACCOUNT PER USER.
You are free to make subaccounts for as many characters as you wish! However, each user is permitted only one main account and one alternative account. The alternative account could be used for storage, NPCs, commissions, etc, and is entirely optional. If you choose to make a separate account for one of these specific purposes, you must identify the account as belonging to you. This can be in the name of the account, the signature, or under the profile picture. If you are discovered making multiple accounts to pretend to be different people or using sockpuppet accounts, disciplinary action will be taken.
12. DO NOT ALTER SITE HISTORY BY DELETING ACCOUNTS OR EDITING POSTS.
As per our account deletion request thread, accounts are not to be deleted unless they meet the criteria listed there. Posts or threads should not be deleted to ensure that a character meets this requirement, and accounts that do not meet these requirements should not be deleted under any circumstance. Our site history is incredibly important to TT.
13. KEEP ALL POSTS LEGIBLE AND AVOID USING THE CODE IN UNINTENDED WAYS.
In general, we ask that you use the codes available to you as intended. While of course, you are always free to suggest new and exciting additions, for most things- for example, background images- these are purposefully not implemented for the sake of legibility. Please do not manipulate codes in an attempt to achieve this effect or anything else you would have to manipulate for.
14. DO NOT USE OVERSIZED IMAGES ON SITE.
In order to avoid stretching or filling up members' entire screens, please ensure you are sizing and cropping your images. This can pertain to images in posting templates or images in signatures.
15. PUBLICLY BASHING TABBY TALES ON PUBLIC PLATFORMS OR ATTEMPTING TO INCITE DRAMA WILL RESULT IN A PERMANENT BAN.
Any attempts to intentionally incite drama towards TT on other sites or public areas will result in a permanent ban. All that we want is a safe place for this community to roleplay and build friendships. The staff team will always be available to talk about any and all concerns.
──── We understand the need to vent frustrations. This should be done privately so it does not hurt others’ feelings. Venting frustrations you have is not the same as bashing, however–if you purposefully bash the website to other members by any means, this will be counted as starting drama. This includes painting the website as a whole in a negative light, discouraging people from joining or attempting to encourage people to leave the site.
16. TABBY TALES CONTENT MAY NOT BE POSTED ANYWHERE ELSE WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Unless you have explicit permission from the owner of the content, you may not share it in any other space outside of Tabby Tales or our discord. This includes but is not limited to characters, art, posts, etc.
──── Artists may still share their work in outside spaces.
17. PUT EFFORT INTO YOUR POSTS.
Do not use text speak. Do not routinely post replies with only a few sentences. We absolutely want this to be a relaxing hobby, and we aren’t asking for paragraphs every post or for you to meet a certain word count! But this is a hobby we take seriously and putting effort into your posts is one way you can be sure to keep the experience fun and immersive for everyone.
18. ALL POSTS MADE IN AN IC BOARD MUST BE IC.
Do not post “tracking” or “bump” on threads. This clogs up threads and falsely inflates a character’s post count. Instead, if you want to track a thread, utilize the “Watch” button at the top of the thread. If you want to reignite interest in a thread, there’s nothing wrong with advertising it in servers!
