❝ it's gonna hurt for a bit of time ❞

While this wasn't her first greenleaf, it was only her second. The young warrior trod into camp with a heaviness that could only be attributed to the blazing heat. It was hot enough that she felt like her fur was sticking to her. She certainly did not envy anyone with long fur, currently. She thought of Palefire with her plumy fur and shuddered at the idea. Her patrol had been miserable. The shade was not much respite, considering the thickness of the air. She found a semi-shaded spot nonetheless, and flopped rather unceremoniously down onto her side. "Could StarClan turn down the... hot?" she grumbled.

*+:。.。 Bugkit was one of those long-haired cats and she most certainly was not having a great time. The girl's tongue sticks out of her mouth as she pads from one shady spot to another, never quite finding comfort in any single one. Probably because the air remains muggy no matter which sunless spot she picks. Finally finding her way to Lightflower's claimed area, the girl would practically throw herself on the ground, face first, just because. The cotton mount of blues and yellows mumbles into the dirt, "Maybe starclan sent down a biiiiig invisible cat that's giving us all a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiig invisible hug?" she offers optimistically, "we're hot cus we're loved!" She giggles at the idea, lifting her head enough for her chin to rest on the ground, tongue still sticking out between her teeth.

Shroudedkit misses the cool spring air in which he was born. The hot air seems to seep into his long fur no matter where he rests, like he is doomed to melt under the sun's pressure. He spends most of the recent days in the shade, hiding his small form in corners and bushes and under the camp's flora. It doesn't quite help, and the usually grumpy boy is absolutely miserable, if it were possible for his attitude to get even worse.

Shroudedkit isn't one to leave his hiding spots to mingle with others, but there's something alluring about little Bugkit and her words that seems to drag the elusive boy out. She speaks of StarClan, how much they love the ThunderClanners, and their big cat that gives them all a hug. He'd turn up his nose at the thought, but.. perhaps he lets the curiosity get the better of him, just this once, in order to distract himself from the heat.

"Are StarClanners really big?" comes a dull mew as the tom settles down in the camp's clearing. He can feel the sun beating down on him here, and part of him wishes to retreat back to the shade of the outskirts. But he wants to know what Bugkit knows about these StarClanners. After all, he was a terrible omen sent from them, as his parents say. "Thought they were like us," he grumbles. Where did he learn that? Don't know. He supposes he just assumed they were like living cats, except.. invisible, or whatever.

She was trying her best to stick to the shade. Long fur made standing in the heat awful, and with lowered ears, she stared out into the ravine. Sunhigh was... boiling hot, and water was drank more often to try and keep herself steady. Lightflower is asking- really, kind of begging Starclan for respite of the heat, and the sigh that Antlerpaw responded with was almost in agreeance.

Bugkit's description- right after faceplanting into the dirt- made her giggle a tiny bit, her tail swishing to knock away a bug or two. "That's a funny idea, but it's just how the moons, the seasons, work. It gets hotter, then it gets colder, and it repeats." Antlerpaw chuffs, slowly lowering herself down in the dirt to be eye-to-eye with the young kits. Shroudedkit draws closer, as if intrigued, and her head turns to face him next.

"They're just like us." She says, nodding her head. Almost as if on cue her orange eyes lifted, searching for her mentor, before lowering back to the kit. "They're actually... cats who have lived before, passing on to Starclan." She did not expect to be giving a whole lesson today, much less in the dragging heat, and even much less to kits who she thought would've known by now- but that's okay! She doesn't mind. "Cats just like me or you up in the Stars, watching over us."

Ivytwist, like her very wise clanmates, also hung to the shadier spots in camp. Her eyes were half closed and drowsiness was seeping in to make her eyelids even heavier. She nodded to her fellow warrior as Lightflower joined her in the shade. The kits that bustled near she offered an uncomfortable smile - she never knew how to react to the younger members of the clan. Their questions were too big and their eyes too hungry for information. Leave it to Ivytwist to shape them in the wrong way and they grow up to be murderers or something.

In this case especially. Ivytwist was under the opinion that StarClan matters should be left to Gentlestorm. She didn't like to speculate, worry about, or even think about StarClan. All she knew that if she was a good cat and hard-working warrior, she would end up there when her time ran out. Whether or not they controlled the weather is a question best asked when she joined their starry ranks.

She would admit, though, that if they did control the weather asking them to do something about it was a worthy prayer. The warrior had been trying her best to volunteer for dawn patrols so she could miss the oppressive heat of sunhigh patrols. It had worked so far, but she feared what Raccoonstripe would do if he found out she was avoiding a certain patrol. She sighed in relief as Antlerpaw answered Bugkit and Shroudedkit's questions. "And I'm not sure they could do much about the heat, Lightflower," she mewed apologetically to her clanmate. "They tend to stick to only worrying about weather when it's time for the gathering." She thought back to her days as an apprentice when StarClan nearly struck a leader with lightning. The idea of possibly being smote by StarClan further cemented her notion that Gentlestorm could handle that lot.

〕While the camp was certainly a safe place, it had its disadvantages in the heat. At least out in the forest, there was the occasional breeze to ruffle a pelt. Here in the ravine, the hot air seemed trapped between the walls. She had been chasing kits all afternoon, so when she joined her clanmates in the shade, the queen laid down with a 'hmph'. Long fur was a blessing in leafbare, but now...it was most definitely a curse. She had never met her father, so she wasn't sure how long his fur had been, but her mother had a pelt that matched her own...and now, each of her kits got to share the curse as well. "I wish." she grumbled in response to Lightflower as she stretched out her front paws, dragging them in soft dirt underpaw. "I'm no Riverclanner, but I'd be lying if I claimed the river wouldn't feel nice today." Would she actually get in the water if given the chance? Many moons had passed since the battle at Sunningrocks...but still probably not. Maybe dip her paws.

Soon after she joined the cats gathered in the shade, her daughter joined them as well. She blinked in surprise as she watched her kit throw herself into the ground. Her nose twitched as she imagined licking all the dirt out of her pelt later...but that wasn't an unusual occurrence for Bugkit. Flamewhisker tucked her front paws closer to her chest, and lowered her head down to rest on top of them. "Perhaps." she responded, imagining a giant Flycatcher coming down from the stars to hug the camp. The corners of her mouth pulled back as she smiled at the outrageous idea, but even though it was crazy, she still found it humorous. She has the biggest imagination.

Shroudedkit joins them, and asks curiously if Starclanners were truly that large. She shakes her head, and Antlerpaw informs him that they are just like normal cats. It was true, or at least she assumed it was. She hadn't ever seen a Starclanner. Who knows, maybe Bugkit is right, and they are huge. Her gaze shifted to Ivytwist as she spoke, and she huffed in amusement at the warrior's words. "It's unfortunate they missed." That had certainly been an interesting gathering. "If they can control the clouds and lightening, then I don't see why they can't have a little mercy on the heat."

❝ it's gonna hurt for a bit of time ❞

The clearing, as it always did, came alive. Even in the oppressive heat, the blazing snow, the clearing was always a place of love and camaraderie. She broke into a smile despite her general misery. She rolled to her back, the dappled sun beginning to burn holes in her fur. Or, it felt like it at least. "Right? Like, c'mon," she giggled.
✿✿✿

*+:。.。 Pushing against the dirt like a worm might, Bugkit inches her way into her mother's fur without lifting her face. She's too tired to use her neck! Although Flamewhisker's pelt does nothing to ease the heavy weight of heat upon her pelt, Bugkit still nestles in close, admiring the softness. She feels more than hears her mother's response, giggling at the vibrations of her speech pattern beneath her tabby fur. Although hidden in her own mess of fluff, her ears snap up when her mother mentions Starclan's control over the weather. Bugkit had heard rumors about that happening at the last gathering.
"Oh oh! Starclan covered the sky with clouds 'cus someone was suuuuuper chilly and they bopped a cat with orange fur 'cus they mistook them for the sun, right?" Starclan must've thought it was funny and rolled over laughing, exposing their fluffy white tummy, like Flamewhisker's, except in Starclan's midnight pelt that's what clouds were!

"Alright Shroudedkit, lets go, you and me" Bugkit purred, suddenly finding the energy to bounce to her feet. The girl skips closer to her cream-pelted friend, a perfect stand-in for the sun-cat. "You be the sun-cat, and I'll make Starclan laugh, you ready?" she explains, bouncing back an forth on her feet. Without further hesitance, the girl would lash out a fluffy paw, very gently patting Shroudedkit on the nose "okay quick, fall over" she whispers to Shroudedkit, before dramatically throwing her paws up at the sky. Squinting against the sunlight, Bugkit announces, "Alright Starclan! Do your thing!"

She waits but only grows warmer by the second.
"Oh no! Starclan doesn't think that's funny enough! Quick, Shroudedkit, let's go find another orange tabby! It's the only way!" she giggles, fur fluffed up to twice her usual size with her excitement. All the while, she shoots peeks at her mamma, hoping her antics and energy will get a laugh out of her, at least!

As more cats arrive to talk about StarClan and lounge, Shroudedkit begins to tune them out. He's no social butterfly, as most kits can attest to; on the contrary, really, the growing crowd seems to be too much for him. Their words fly over his head now, even as some answer his own inquiry. Until Bugkit speaks, that is; this time, directly at him.

Shroudedkit sits up, confused, as the other kitten bounces over with her trademark energy. What was she talking about again?.. "Sun cat?" he echoes. "I don't - I don't wanna-" he begins to formulate a complaint, but is cut off by a soft batter to his face. Oh, alright.

If it were any kitten other than Bugkit, he wouldn't follow. Even now, it is half-assed as he lazily flops back onto his side, leaving his tail tip to thump annoyedly onto the ground behind him. A roll of his eyes displays his hesitant compliance as Bugkit brings her announcement to the sky, which does not let up. All he can think is, are we done yet?

So she wants to find a different tabby, huh? Well, at least he won't have to roll over again. Perhaps they will find their tabby back in the shade where he came from. "Okay," he replies simply, rolling back onto his paws. Maybe another orange tabby will make the sun go away. I guess I'm not orange enough.

Deerpaw, like most of his clanmates, was hidden away in one of the shadier spots in camp. The tortie apprentice had his feathered ears lowered, as he stared out into camp's ravine. Sunhigh… was terribly sweltering, he'd already had water before scrambling to hide away from his clanmates.

An ear twitches as he listens to the conversations from several Thunderclanners. Some of them complaints. Like Lightflower asking‐ really begging Starclan to turn down the heat itself. He doesn't really think about Starclan much. Or ever these days, all he knows once he becomes a… warrior he'll join their starry ranks… he guesses. He wonders if Starclan does control the weather, why would they send the heat over here?

Uncomfortableness, grips at his pelt as he watches kits bustle about, asking questions and hungry for knowledge. Thankfully, Antlerpaw answered the kits questions. He hunches down, his tail thumped on the ground behind him in nervousness. He lets his brows knit together, as he silently curses to himself on why was he born with long fur? It's a blessing in the winter season, but… summer? He's boiling out here. Deerpaw blinks, as he swiveled a ear towards Flamewhisker’s response to Lightflower about Riverclan’s river. He silently agrees with the queen.

The apprentice scrunches his nose a little as bugs decided to get up close to his face. He clicks his tongue in annoyance, and shoo's them away with a dark paw. Ugh… small nuisances He huffs, as he slides his gaze towards the kits… throw themselves at the ground. He tilts his head, in a curious matter. What's great about throwing yourself in the dirt? The scrawny tom lets out a yawn, as drowsiness seeps into him and making his eyelids heavier response. He slowly slides down to plop into the dirt in his shady spot. Laying on his side, in the ground like an overgrown worm felt… refreshing? No. A bit cooler, but not much.

Lightflower was certainly correct in her assumption that Palefire was in fact not having a good time with the heat bearing down on her too-long fur. The warrior had just stepped back through the gorse tunnel into the camp clearing when her clanmates decided to gather together, catching her interest immediately. Swiftly she made her way to the fresh kill pile, where she deposited the singular mouse that she had managed to catch on her solo hunting patrol - the greenleaf sun had made it intolerable for her to stay out in the forest any longer. She had been planning on retiring to her nest for the rest of the day to wait for the cool relief of nightfall, but now she made her way to the little crowd that had gathered around her friend.

The lilac-pointed feline languidly stretched herself out upon the ground beside Lightflower, offering the pale tabby a gentle nudge with her cheek in greeting before her icy gaze fell to rest of the gathered Thunderclanners. She'd arrived just as the conversation about Starclan's infinite size was wrapping up, and while she knew that Antlerpaw was correct in that they were just normal, starry-furred cats much like themselves, she found a bit of comfort in Bugkit's imaginings. What if it were possible that her mother and father were up there right now, bigger and brighter than the sun, loving her so much that they warmed the very earth with affection? A soft smile ghosted across her face as she turned to the dramatic little kitten. "I think I like your version better, Bugkit. Let's just keep pretending that the heat is love from Starclan."

Before she could say any more, the pair of kits were up and playing and bounding away in quite the amusing display, to which she chuckled warmly. The idea of having children of her own wasn't one that Palefire ever allowed herself to linger on for long; after all, would there ever be anyone who loved her enough to want them? It mattered not, she was certain she wouldn't be a very good mother anyways. She couldn't even avoid ruining her own life, she didn't want the responsibility of several other innocent new lives in her paws as well. With a bracing shake of her fur, the warrior pulled herself from her darkening thoughts and turned to the group with forced casualness. "Perhaps this is just Starclan's clever way of punishing us for our bad behavior at the gathering." If she knew anything about their ghostly ancestors, it was that they expected civility during the full moon, and the clans had not delivered this time.

IF I COULD BURN THIS TOWN ✧°.☀ ————————————
The Greenleaf heat had Roaringpaw lazing around in the medics' den more than usual, his lethargy worsened by the warmth of the sunlight. Not even the shade provided was helping, and he found himself needing of more water to drink than ever. He is lying down by the entrance, down on his side; the den had proven to be too stuffy, keeping the warm air in instead of circulating it.

The apprentice wonders if this heatwave will somehow make his illness worse, depending on how long it lasted. His ears flicker as he hears his clanmates discussing the weather, Palefire among them. He sneaks a glance at his scar so gracefully given by her. Anyway. He doesn't join in their conversation, choosing to be quiet for once (nothing to do with the fact he's out of breath, obviously). His whiskers twitch at the mentions of StarClan. Were they really so powerful they could control the weather on a whim? This heatwave didn't seem like a nice action from the supposedly benevolent ancestors.... ghosts?

Usually with a day so bright Dovekit would be playing with the other kits, running around and chasing moss balls or bothering some of the older clanmates to tell them stories or try and get them to do some sort of training or play games with them. Today, they couldn't muster the energy, their long coat of fur usually something to boast about - it was gorgeous after all - but on days like this the small kit couldn't help but wish that all their fur would fall off. They were uncomfortable, they were hot, they were tired, and their patience was as thin as their comfort due to it. "If this is what StarClan giving us a hug feels like I don't want anymore hugs." The kit would whine, tail thumping on the ground where they lie, eyes watching the gathering cats as they began to discuss the heat.

More discussions and playing is had and a frown couldn't help but plaster itself on Dovekit's maw, ears flicking back at the thought of StarClan punishing them for how the gathering went. "How come we're being punished too? I thought ThunderClan didn't do anything wrong?" Of course they hadn't been to the gathering but they had heard the chatter, heard the rumors of what had happened from excited warriors and apprentices alike. It was ShadowClan that should be punished so why did ThunderClan have to feel the heat too? "We should um... make a river in camp so that it's not hot anymore." Surely that would solve the heat issue.

"The sun works in mysterious ways, I suppose. You would have much more luck asking it than those who rule over the stars at night." Campionsong's jaunty voice chimed in, though even a former devotee of the sun's glory could feel its wrath pool along his spine, beading anathema along the back of his flanks and limbs. Before he and his family had arrived to the colonies, he followed the most protuberant source of light, rather than the little pinpricks in the sky. As he had grown much more wise, he had accepted their ancestors (but not his, as of now) into his spacious heart. The older warrior had witnessed many greenleaf seasons before this, and some days harbored more wroth ire than others, as though the light arose on the wrong side of its heavenly nest. He hadn't much of an answer upon a silver tongue, simply that sometimes the day was more cruel than the yester hours. He sighed as he started to fan himself with one flapping paw, like he wished for the sun to burn so hard it would become eclipsed, or at least rustle behind a thornbush of a cloud or something. "A river'd be a good idea, though. Really." He trilled in response to Dovekit's suggestion and Flamewhisker's wishful thinking.

Aside from the warmth of the Nursery, the camp clearing was all Wolfkit knew. They had never dared sneak out of camp, though curiosity about what lay beyond was a frequent vice in their good behaviour. Everything was nice in camp, but it wasn't spacious for a growing kitten - or, at least, the illusion of claustrophobia had taken over with each passing moon seeing the same things. Today was a day where wanderlust did not tempt them though. The sun's cloistering heat bore down on the pale feline's body, even despite the shade they tried to stick to as clanmates and family spoke. Ears were kept pricked at the mention of StarClan's punishment, blinking in confusion - ThunderClan hadn't done anything wrong, had it? Talk of the gathering had invaded the camp and thus, Wolfkit's memory, things about a struck leader and medicine cat whose impact was not entirely understood, but shocking all the same. They were about to ask again when Dovekit spoke up.

Orange eyes grew wide at their words. "Huh?! No, I don't like the river plan," they mewed, polite and sincere, worry gripping their youthful heart. "If it splits camp, how am I supposed to see papa in his den? I can't swim." Ears flattened to the sides of the cream cameo's face, as if Campionsong's approval made Dovekit's idea a reality.
