Squirrelpaw didn't know much about her father, only what she'd heard from stories. One thing she did know about Flycatcher, though, was that he loved climbing. It was something she'd learned from her mother when she was young, and had clung to the idea ever since. For as long as she had been able to walk, the young torbie had been practicing climbing anything she could get her claws on. It had become an annoying habit for the other queens in the nursery tasked with keeping an eye on her, and any clanmates who happened to be unfortunate enough to get too close whenever she fell. On the bright side (for her at least), she usually had something soft to land on!

And... this mutiny had been difficult. It was stupid to say, and obvious to everyone. But she was still young, and oh-so-inexperienced with the ways of the world, and it was the first time she'd been faced with such evil and hatred. As bright and optimistic as Squirrelpaw tried to be, she was unequipped to deal with the raging torrent of complex feelings that had been rocking her ever since Skyclaw had killed Howlingstar in front of them all. So much death and pain and sadness, and she didn't know what to do. She was angry, and hurt, and more than a little bit scared but she also knew that she needed to be strong for her family. But... how can you be strong when you're afraid? She wanted her dad back now more than ever. She wondered if he knew how to be brave.

Squirrelpaw didn't want to think or feel anymore so she turned to the thing she knew best. Trees were sparse within the confines of the camp, but one or two sizeable trunks jutted out from the walls of the ravine. The two-toned apprentice sat at the base of the tallest of them, forest-green gaze narrowed upon its highest branches. Her tail lashed across the ground behind her, sweeping up a mess of dead leaves and twigs but she seemed not to notice anything beyond her tunnel vision. One deep breath, then two, then three... rampant emotions surged once again and finely-tuned muscles coiled in preparation. With a frustrated rumble deep in her throat the blue torbie sprang upwards, claws outstretched until they collided with solid wood and sank deep into loose bark. She took another labored breath and dragged herself up the trunk of the tree, quickly reaching the lowest branch and hauling herself safely onto it.

-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ- he hasn't tried, not that he has any desire to anymore, but he could not climb a tree like that anymore. maybe if the branches were lower, and his leg didn't ache the way it did. maybe someday, but not any day soon. he doesn't acknowledge that he is terrified of being that high up, and he certainly isn't going to ruin this for squirrelpaw who seems to be having a grand time! couple moons ago, he'd been doing the same! he was pretty careful when he limped over, ignoring the ache in his side and his leg. he just can't lay in the medicine den all day and every day, especially when he can make friends out here, too.

"hey, looking very good squirrelpaw! a lot better than i did!"

he isn't loud, just slightly excited. he sits at the base of the tree, angling his head to look upward before turning to look at squirrelpaw again.

"are you okay? you look a little frustated... you... can talk to me, if you want."

orangepaw lowers his voice a lot more just for squirrelpaw to hear, before his tail twitches back and forth. he's sure she's not necessarily okay. a lot of cats weren't nowadays, but if he can help, he is willing. always.

⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊ Dwindlingpaw enjoyed training, it provided a break from her thoughts. One of the few things that those fox hearted cats can't ruin. Her insides rage as she recalls all the faces she will never see again. But she was only a foolish apprentice who couldn't stop any of the murders. She was too scared of being killed by those claws.

Squirrelpaw threw herself at a nearby tree, tearing into it and climbed to the nearest branch. Training. If it were another time, she might have laughed at how much the girl resembled a squirrel, but it wasn't their reality. It did bring a grin to Dwindlingpaw's otherwise grim face. "You're definitely living up to your name, Squirrelpaw! That's a great way to ambush your opponent." She bets that when the other apprentice is older, she won't even break a sweat climbing these trees.
