*+:。.。 Despite the sun being a beast one most certainly should not stare directly at, Asphodelpaw's glare would be trained upon its slowly receding form, wordlessly cursing it for its cowardice. Granted, his eyes were beginning to water from the effort, but just as the day's decay announced, he had nothing better to do. Asphodelpaw wasn't a big fan of the night. When cats turned in for it, activity in camp slowed to a crawl if anything at all. It was safer to ignore their nocturnal instincts in favor of safety, protecting each other in the comfort of sheltered dens, away from opossums, raccoons, owls, and other night-time predators. But what good was safety when his bones still ached for something to do? Asphodelpaw wasn't the type to find sleep easy, and being surrounded by clanmates never stopped feeling claustrophobic to the young man, so when new-leaf slowly began to warm the night and stopped threatening to give him frostbite for his procrastination on a bedtime routine, he decided to continue his tradition. Icy blue eyes would begin to glow beneath the orange light of sunset. Then the blood red of dusk, then the magenta of twilight. He sat outside the warrior's den - a sentinel waiting for orders no matter how long it would take - and watched the sky change without thought.
Silver moonlight bloomed bright against the inky backdrop, broken up only by the distant hues of white and green pinpricks of stars and-
Green?
Asphodelpaw blinks hard, but the amount of green stars only begins to grow. Lifting a paw, he rubs harder at his eyes - perhaps having a stare down with the sun hadn't been a great idea after all? But upon peeking through his digits, he finds the lights have continued to multiply. One in particular drifts a little closer and the tell-tell buzz of fluttering wings fills his sensitive ears. It lands on his nose, and he remains stock-still, eyes crossed as he gazes upon...a lightning bug!
"Hmm" he mumbles, not a little bit in awe as it's soft green glow fills the night with unnatural...but arguably quite a lovely hue. "Do uh - do these things bite?" he suddenly thought to ask, feeling his body stiffen as the bug continued to crawl and flutter on the bridge of his nose. It'd be just his luck to see a firefly for the first time and to end the experience with a poisoned nose!
