*+:。.。 Despite the sun being a beast one most certainly should not stare directly at, Asphodelpaw's glare would be trained upon its slowly receding form, wordlessly cursing it for its cowardice. Granted, his eyes were beginning to water from the effort, but just as the day's decay announced, he had nothing better to do. Asphodelpaw wasn't a big fan of the night. When cats turned in for it, activity in camp slowed to a crawl if anything at all. It was safer to ignore their nocturnal instincts in favor of safety, protecting each other in the comfort of sheltered dens, away from opossums, raccoons, owls, and other night-time predators. But what good was safety when his bones still ached for something to do? Asphodelpaw wasn't the type to find sleep easy, and being surrounded by clanmates never stopped feeling claustrophobic to the young man, so when new-leaf slowly began to warm the night and stopped threatening to give him frostbite for his procrastination on a bedtime routine, he decided to continue his tradition. Icy blue eyes would begin to glow beneath the orange light of sunset. Then the blood red of dusk, then the magenta of twilight. He sat outside the warrior's den - a sentinel waiting for orders no matter how long it would take - and watched the sky change without thought.

Silver moonlight bloomed bright against the inky backdrop, broken up only by the distant hues of white and green pinpricks of stars and-
Green?

Asphodelpaw blinks hard, but the amount of green stars only begins to grow. Lifting a paw, he rubs harder at his eyes - perhaps having a stare down with the sun hadn't been a great idea after all? But upon peeking through his digits, he finds the lights have continued to multiply. One in particular drifts a little closer and the tell-tell buzz of fluttering wings fills his sensitive ears. It lands on his nose, and he remains stock-still, eyes crossed as he gazes upon...a lightning bug!

"Hmm" he mumbles, not a little bit in awe as it's soft green glow fills the night with unnatural...but arguably quite a lovely hue. "Do uh - do these things bite?" he suddenly thought to ask, feeling his body stiffen as the bug continued to crawl and flutter on the bridge of his nose. It'd be just his luck to see a firefly for the first time and to end the experience with a poisoned nose!

  • ❀ The crickets are singing at nice once more, other insects are buzzing as well and fireflies begin to drift through the night.

To struggle with sleep was an affliction Ferngill had only been struck with since his return from the journey- though, having Sablemist at his side now, warming half of his nest, often alleviated it. Still, even in this bliss, the fear of enclosing cave walls made him sick to his stomach and sometimes constructed a blockade, barring him from the reprieve of slumber. He too had watched the light begin to fade... to move from ruddy to purple to darkness. The dancing stars were waking.

He'd seen fireflies before, of course; but it had been long ago, during warmer moons, and he didn't recall them very easily. Asphodelpaw's quiet question drifted over to him- Ferngill then realised that they were sat a little closer together than he had thought. No matter- of all the apprentices, Asphodelpaw was one Ferngill was a little more familiar with, and one he had a certain affection for. The tom always regarded with respect which he appreciated, and did his best to return fully.

"I don't think so," he hummed, fairly certain... though there was a door open for someone to correct him if he was wrong. Hopefully not, though. His head tilted, solitary gaze widening a little to take in the light, stars dotting his eye. "They're gorgeous, aren't they?"

reedstrike honestly almost blended into the dark shadows, with his pelt as dark as it was, the dark just seemed to absorb him. if seen outside his territory, one would almost assume he was from shadowclan with his long dark pelt and wicked appearance. he had just been out for one of his usual night swims in the river not far from camp and shook his pelt vigorously as he entered the camp. honestly, his activity at this time of night was probably responsible for his difficulty in waking up each morning. not many cats were usually out this late, but as reedstrike glanced across the clearing he spied two forms, speaking to one another. he was a little shocked to not see them tucked away in dens and he immediately strode over, ears tuning into their discussion as he got closer.

he heard asphodelpaw ask if they bite and a slick grin inched across his muzzle. wow, do i have a problem? he genuinely questioned in his head for a second, then shook his head. that couldn't be possible. he lurked a little closer as ferngill responded in the negative and reed rolled his eyes nonchalantly, he wasn't willing to let this opportunity to slide. "pffbt- yeah they do!" he smirked, arriving on the other side of asphodelpaw, glancing at his nose. he made a point to widen his eyes in shock and let his body go rigid, "oh no, this is bad... stay very still.." he whispered, voice coming across as if the consequences were incredibly dire. if he could giggle in his head, he would, because it was incredibly hard not to break character here. apprentices were so fun to mess with.

Fireflies filled the skies above them as they fluttered about, illuminating the way along their course. Distant mumbling catches her attention as she turned her fixation from the flying insects to Asphodelpaw, Ferngill, and Reedstrike. By the time she arrived, she found Reedstrike rigid and stiff as a log and the other two normal. Did an argument happen? "Everything alright?" Troutsnout would inquire, glancing at the dark brown tabby with a fictional eyebrow raised in curiosity. After she allows her question to sink in, she notices the fireflies also enjoying their flight around the others as well as she raises a paw to her chin. They were beautiful and seductive in a manner, something that showed that no matter how dark the it seemed to be━ there would always be light.

"Are you all watching them as well?" The cinnamon spotted tabby would murmur as she allowed herself to be mesmerized by the sight of fireflies dancing with others of their kind. She yawns softly, tears welling up from her tiredness and the warmth of the midnight's embrace. Typically she wasn't tired by this time but it seemed that today was one of those nights, but it wasn't anything to complain about. The early bird catches the worm, so a good night's rest would have her up as soon as the bird sing in the morning and she would continue her daily routine.

-ˋˏ ˎˊ- like her clanmates, carawaypaw was enthralled with the glittering bugs flying around camp. it was as if starclan came down themselves for a visit, if one didn't sit so close on asphodelpaw's nose that she could see it's dark body and buggy features, she may have believed that to be the truth.

reedstrike seems startled by the closeness of the bug, said that it was very bad. ferngill denied that they were violent creatures... did the dark tabby know something that the lead warrior didn't? she may have believed him too, if not for troutsnout's relaxed disposition as she watched the creatures dance. "i think if it was gonna bite you, it would have already. maybe it likes you," she inserted, banded tail flicking over her paws before she turned to troutsnout. "they're real pretty. where've they been all leafbare?"

Petalnose watched the conversation quietly from her spot perched upon a rock, gaze drawing to the floating bugs of topic. Last they had became a topic was when the former river king reminisced of it beside her before the gathering. The patched feline tilted her head in thought, never had she believed in the saying, but maybe it would be fun to bring it up. Curious she was to see what her clanmates thought as well, why not pass the memory along Cicadastar placed in her mind? How far could it reach?

"I was once told it could symbolize our past loved ones guiding our paths in times of darkness." She hummed thoughtfully, "Funny it would be if it bit you instead. How backstabbing." A sudden mischievous gleam to her eyes added to her thoughtful frown, looking for Asphodelpaw's reaction. Never had she heard or experienced such, but could it really be a sign of it suddenly came to reality? Curious she was if the same thought reached the youth's mind. Maybe it'll keep him out of trouble for once.. if that was even possible.

✧ . It's as if the stars have come to visit. As he heads to the warrior den for the night, Gillsight's paws can't help but to still at the sight before him — glowing light floating all around camp, a dance only fit for fireflies. He's seen this before, of course, but it doesn't change the awestruck look he holds, the moment of admiration brought forward by their beauty. There's nothing quite like it, really.

A question of their serenity is brought up in quiet tones only made louder by Reedstrike's concern-feigned insistence, one that pulls the tom's attention away for only a moment.

" The camp w-would be in a b-bigger panic, " he tells Asphodelpaw with an amused laugh and a swish of his tail, before Petalnose's words reach dark ears and a thoughtful gaze is sent back towards flickering sparks. If these are loved ones, if these are Clearsight and Clayfur and all that RiverClan has lost, what path could they have forged before them now?
