WHEN I SMILE I'M A T-REX | sneezeduck

She did not remember her first Leafbare very well. The frigid world had not infiltrated the Nursery and, now that she felt the frost on her toes and biting her severed ear, she felt woefully unprepared. Each step was met with a shiver and an energised hop to try and combat the cold, Bloodwing could not imagine it getting any colder than this, yet her mothers had told her to prepare. In the face of such adversity, her expression was somewhat stilted as she nosed about the brittle leaves and searched high and low for something useful. Foraging wasn't her forte, nor was hunting, and each new failure felt like an affirmation that she shouldn't be wasting her time with it.

Hope twinged in the form of new leaves, but as she pressed her paw to them, they were like ice and twice as brittle. Snaking her foot beneath them, she allowed her unsheathed claws to pierce the fragile flora. Her shoulders sagged and she tilted her head back. "Uggggggh," She watched the world behind her from its upside-down angle, swiveling about like a caffeinated weasel as she spotted her patrol partner a few steps away. Sneezeduck had always seemed better for this sort of work, but perhaps that just because she'd seen him as the normal one of the brothers, the one who could do more than chaotic brawling if he wished.

Even recently.

"This sucks, I can't find anything out here! Any luck?" She called out, tail lashing. When she got an affirmative answer, she stomped her paw against the earth, flinching at the splash of cold mud reaching her belly. "Dunno why I've been put on resource duty. I wanna fight ThunderClan not... this denbuilding foxdung." It wasn't foxdung, it was important, she knew it was important.

But she felt it was more important to do something she would not fail at.

While Bloodwing mopes and idles around while they are supposed to be searching for bedding, Sneezeduck seems keen to mind his own business as he noses around the undergrowth for something untouched by the frost. A cold breeze tickles the tufts of his ears, and he finds himself shaking his head periodically, as if to shake off the chill. Frustrated, he raises his head to the blue, starless sky, wondering.. just what do you have in mind?

A frustrated groan follows up his thoughts and, as a first instinct, Sneezeduck's tail twitches irritably. For a friend of Singeglare's, he certainly sees how his brother's personality might have rubbed off on her - or vice versa. But, getting the better of his recent mood changes, he simply lets out a sympathetic sigh, throws a concerned glance her way, and then moves forward down the trail.

A couple cat's-lengths or so forward, Sneezeduck strikes finds himself lucky once again. At the base of a hefty tree grows a vibrant patch of moss, conveniently left unharmed by the brittle cold. A smile tugs at his lips - it is no feather or down, but it'll do well to replace the bedding of those whose nests have grown frail and prickly. Especially the Clan's newest arrivals.

" Denbuilding is just as important, " Sneezeduck reminds her, affirming her thoughts that she fights within. " If our kittens and elders freeze while we battle, who are we really fighting for? " Now, he finally looks back at her, and angles his ears towards the patch of ferns he had found, with a wide smile. " I've got moss. Do you want to take half? " At least you won't appear so unlucky, then.

Bloodwing still seems.. disappointed. If Sneezeduck thinks about ThunderClan too long in this moment, he discovers that he, too, feels the longing to fight rather than gather - no matter how important the latter was. It's all that was on anyone's minds lately, a responsibility that rested heavily on his shoulders this days.. one he had never felt responsible for ever before. War.

" Have you always been so eager to fight? " Sneezeduck inquires casually. He's sure he can answer the question himself; he remembers Bloodpaw and Singepaw's little incident from moons ago; but it wouldn't hurt to get to know his allies. If he were to stagger in battle, would Swansong and Singeglare be enough to pick up his slack? " Are you thinking about.. justice? "
