Her claws cup the base of a stem, eyes glancing over the leaves along the length of it. Frostbitten, but not unusable. Cottonsprig would normally bypass herbs that aren't up to snuff, but as the chill sets in earlier and earlier, she cannot help but give her standards a more flimsy backbone. They're pulled with a quick flex of her wrist, falling to the cold ground and soon after gathered by whitened teeth.
"We should be mindful," Cottonsprig says to her apprentice, awkwardly. Both because of the cold plant now resting loosely in her maw, but because... Celandinepaw is her friend more than the she-cat as her apprentice. They're nearly peers, their moons of age difference negligible. It's difficult to remain the authority figure when she remembers just how close they are in that regard.
Wolfsong never had that issue; his power could not be challenged. Even with one eye he commanded respect and tact... Can she do that?
"If the frost has set in so early, who's to say when the snow will blow through..." she speaks jilted still, unsure of her tone. Is she giving a kit a lesson on the seasons, or warning her apprentice of the new troubles they face with this one? "... I was born in leafbare, y'know. My mother used to burrow in the snow because she believed it would make her litter strong. And then the following leafbare... I was Wolfsong's apprentice by then. Time flies, I think," she doesn't know where she's gong with this. Maybe she's just chatting to pass the time.
